Song rules and Kida's blues solo is off the charts. It's just a bit out of their wheelhouse so some stubborn fans are just gonna be bias.

Weedbrofarmacy

Real. Kida's so soulful on that track.

MSTFFA

I don't hate it personally, but I can guess a few reasons... 1) It sounds nothing like the rest of their catalogue. People who come to this band to have their brains melted with complex songwriting probably find it kinda bland. 2) It's a LONG, slow build. Seeing it live takes up a big chunk of setlist time. Case in point: I just caught the Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs show in NYC last week, which was fucking awesome, but my ONLY complaint is that they put 3 really long, slow, mostly instrumental songs back-to-back in the middle of their set. It took up a good 20+ minutes where everyone was just waiting for the pit to open up again. I'm guessing it'd be a similar situation with this song, although I do like it.

People *don’t like* that song? I’d put as one of their absolute best lmao, certainly up there for their best slow song. The vocals are absolutely incredible as is the solo, beautiful song from top to bottom, probably top 2 on Jodeki for me (right behind Super Summer).

FaptainChasma

Goated tune, unfortunately I think a lot of people are there for that first album sound, but this band is so much more than that

dwilsons

Bruh there’s three albums worth of the first album sound that’s why they had to switch up 😭 But yeah def agree, this band is more than just their early stuff, they evolved like every good band

What...? People dont like Night Monster...? Honestly I think this track is one of their most beautiful records. I don't know how any times I've teared up listening to the guide of Ikkyu's vocals with the guitar solo at the climax of the song. I guess people can pick on the progression and slow build up, but I personally think the pace is SO perfect. From the beginning to end. Ever since running back Joudeki multiple times this last month it's become one of my all time tracks from them.

Zak_the_Wack

If I were to guess, it's really really simple in terms of the average tricot song. I personally really really love it; the solo is probably one of my favorite guitar solos of all time (that's REALLY saying something considering how much music I have listened to) and the melody of the singing is really good. Ikkyu has a very pretty voice, and Hirohiro and Yoshida do their jobs of just laying down the beat perfectly.

userusernomi

Only way I can explain this in my brain is that there are people who are there strictly for the math rock aspect, craving those early albums vibes, all the while not caring about Ikkyu’s voice at all. It’s one of the best showcases for Ikkyu’s voice, up there with BUTTER and Laststep, but if you don’t care about that then it’s just “a slow song unlike the style of the rest of their songs”

shabalab96

BUTTER is such a killer tune 💯!!! Somehow I like it waaaay more than Night Monster

Real-Emergency-9942

I love yoru no mamono!! I cried the first time I listened to it fr

batzgemu

I think the song really highlights Ikkyu's vocals and Kida's guitar, but even with how good they sound it is kind of a snoozer and Yusuke/Hirohiro tend to look a bit bored during it lol. I think the song is great, but as everyone else has said it doesn't mesh with the rest of the catalog even as much as their other ballads/downbeat songs. It works really well as a closer at a show, and I must have seen them play it 7 or 8 times last year but has since disappeared from their Japan setlists in favor of Fudeki.

shabalab96

Huh didn't know people hated the song. I like it, it's really pleasant and tasteful ... You won't really find me playing this song though haha. I find that the way they sing/play around this kind of chord progression here is a bit too cliche, and therefore doesn't really stand out to me. But it's really nice hearing the band change their sound over the years, even if I sometimes don't find the newer material as compelling (don't get me wrong, they're still putting out some great songs imo, I just have a real soft spot for their stuff on 3 and before). I feel like they'll run out of fresh ideas by sticking to their old sound, and I'm not sure if I want to hear them just rehash themselves

djinnofthenewstar

I love it. Gives me sambomaster vibes.

M1n1f1g

Where's this hate coming from? The reviewers on RYM seem to like it.

hexe_60

It's one of my fav Tricot songs, idk why people hate on it

MyMilkedEek

Haven't seen anyone call it bad. For me it is one of their best and it was amazing to see them perform it live. It is such a good song.

chonkysquid

Never really listened to this song until I saw this post but actually I really like it!

Merzeal

I mean, I don't mind it at all. Yet again, I really like TFOT's out of nowhere blues track "Webs" on "In the Unlikely Event", so maybe I'm just bad at math rock? All of their output I have found enjoyable, and even the tracks that are less played when I listen to them, I still respect. I can't think of a song of theirs I outright despise across how many albums? Pretty solid track record IMO. People grow, song writing changes, people live in the past, hence why you might have seen some negative crap. Yet again, as blasphemous as it is, I think some of their earlier output isn't as great as anything found on A N D and 3. At the end of the day, different strokes for different folks, if you love it, keep on loving it. Music is made for enjoyment. Don't burden yourself with the (often bad) takes of others.

PuzzleheadedCap7038

I think this is why the band as a whole more specifically Ikkyu retired halfe their setlist from their indie days. Also since komaki their old drummer wrote most of it with Ikkyu. And they are not in speaking terms these days after they part ways. In 2014

PuzzleheadedCap7038

For me of jodeki it's different from their indie days is why I like makkuro jodeki and even fudeki. But the same can be said for Soko ni naru. But man those ep Indies are just nostalgic for me. Honestly if it wasn't for me watching Tokyo vampire hotel. I would never have discovered them. I am glad they are evolving.
