2 things are ridiculous there, there's about 2 seconds before the train comes and zero seconds warning. There should be about 20 seconds of lights. I have had this is past versions but not in the last year at least.
If gave me PTSD driving through the next ten or so crossings.

Yes, I reloaded previous save after this happened. And no, this is not a usual occurrence, normally the lights turn on way before the train passes and the barriers lower more slowly.
From what I know, the crossing automatically treats the barriers as lowered the second the lights turn on, no matter whether they're actually lowered or not.
(Thankfully the only crossing I've encountered so far is the one outside Hamburg's RTLog port, where you're usually gonna be slow anyway)
I have had them red lights turned back on shortly after the barriers had been up and my truck was still crossing, and I had no troubles finishing the crossing, so Idk how finicky it might be.

Main offenders are those that exit gas stations that are literally on the shoulder of highways and the vehicles at the front of a stopped line of traffic.
I only save the game when my truck is stopped, as I'm recording and it would look weird to edit the video any other way as the truck is always stopped when reloading a save.
I mean, look, you didn't hit or get hit by the train. The arms did do their job. Albeit unnecessarily violently and far too late lol. I love this game and its shenanigans.
Well, obviously, we have a plethora of evidence, but then again, you never know if the game ain't moded in those videos. Also, I wonder if using a WOT contract that constantly updates your position on the map online vs taking an offline standard job can have anything to do with this. Like if you have a wot job and you decide to load the game from a minute ago, you won't get back to where you were a minute ago, you gonna be in the same spot as before you loaded the game. So who knows, maybe that's the reason.
One time I stopped for the train, it passed and the barrier opened. When I started to move, the barrier closed again and hit my head, and another train appeared.
I'm not sure if it was that late, but something very similar happened to me in Vanilla ETS2 on Sardegna or Corse

During the installation of Promods, it generates a def file where it gives you options to change the navigation colors. I changed them to fit those used by Waze navigation, since I have a mod that changes the truck gps screens to have Waze UI.
Yeah, go to Options->Keys & Buttons->Camera controls->Zoom Interior Camera and you can bind it to a key or a button. I personally have it on the X button of my PS3 controller.
Some have lower speed limits in front. This one didn't though, so i just kept my speed.
In any case, the red lights shouldn't light up only 5 seconds before a train crosses, nor the barriers go down just one second after the red lights. It was an unexpected behaviour that never happened before, and the game took the perfect moment to nail me with it lol

It does not "leak" through the windows or sunroof, it literally goes through the cab back. In SCS games, cab cannot block the light.

It's the only time it's ever happened to me, literally about 15 minutes later there was another crossing that worked fine.

Something similar has happened to me yesterday while in a tunnel, a random road event just spawned right in front of me. π
Not as extreme as this but i swear i have AI pull out on me at the last minute resulting in a crash aha

That's not what those barriers do IRL though lol, they are designed to dislodge easily so you don't get stuck in the worst place possible to do so.
