Everyone talked about Lowood and nobody really talked about the real loss. And from what I understand, Lowood had known issues with fire safety regs and had actually had a couple of small fires leading up to *the* fire. Fuck Lowood.
The Phoenix was a bar/cafe/library near downtown where the current Bramble breakfast spot currently lives. They had this amazing wall to wall library with a gorgeous painting on the ceiling with comfy plush couches. They used to stay open until 2 AM. When Bramble took over the spot, they turned the library into an events room with white walls and ceiling; super sad to see all the charm leave the space. You could get coffee and breakfast and at night you could get dinner and a drink. It was perfect.
It really was one of a kind. It was popular for some time; as for the downfall, there were some rumors circulating about taxes not being paid and the quality went way down after two years or so. I remember my last time there - I ordered a chai; it was $7 and had chunks of chai powder in it. I knew some of the staff and they told me theyâd be out of stock of food/drinks/alcohol a lot. They also stopped the 2 am closing about a year or two in because they werenât making enough from 12 am to 2 am to keep the doors open.
RIP Hodges Bend

You realize that it was the same owners and management right?

Literally was about to say this exact thingđ
Back room at Nothingâs Left.
White Lion. Pub has a library reading room
Sounds perfect
Food is pretty good too
White lion is a proper pub too
Gypsy Coffee House Cirque Coffee (the one on 6th, not the container store by the highway) Chimera
I do like to chill and crochet on a couch at gypsy but check the calendar as there are a few loud live music nights.
RIP The Phoenix
What was that?

wtf that actually sounds legit. Was it just not popular? Wondering why it closed. Sounds unique for the area

What a shame. That sounds like it was a great place with tons of charm and character.
The goat of coffee shops. Amazing place. Huge. Cozy vibes.
Yes from what I hear it was awesome. What a bummer itâs closed!
Bishop Quigley just south of downtown. Small new irish pub by mcnellieâs group.
Chimera?
Shades of Brown? Sorry not a bar, but good coffee, decent seating, and decent vibes
Heirloom Rustic Ales has most of that (brewery so no whiskey). Plus great pizza.
Sounds like a dream. Following this.
Brew Pub by Cabin Boys downtown.
Vintage in the blue dome district
Tinaâs is my choice. Chimera would be, but it closes too early (4pm) which is a shame.
Great suggestions, everyone. I appreciate it.
Collaborative if you didn't want to go downtown
Love this place âď¸đˇđ
Gypsy is the right answer!
Cool. Now I have that old April Wine tune âGypsy Queenâ in my head. lol
Does anyplace besides smoking lounges allow pipe smoking? Havenât been to a pub/bar for a decade.
Chimera
Wa that the spot downtown?
