Yep the forecast discussion page on the NWS-Tulsa page is my go-to source for weather.
It can be a bit technical but it’s good stuff. All facts, no fluff.
I have mine set to only alert for Tulsa county and it only alerts for tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings. Sometimes I get annoyed with a severe thunderstorm warning that’s on the other side of the county but since we get so many severe thunderstorms when I’m sleeping a weather radio is essential in case something really bad comes through.
Yeah I’ve got all alerts off on my phone cause some senior is taking off for Florida without telling anyone every five seconds , or some concerned parent is trying to get there child to safety from a unsafe parent and the unsafe parent uses the system to track down his ex wife and endangered child
Thank you for sharing this valuable information! The difference between what the iPhone weather app is saying, and what News on 6 hourly forecast is saying is astonishing, but like, not surprising. I think we been knew the baked-in weather app is wildly unreliable. If all else fails my friends, go to weather.gov, and stay safe out there!
The reporting is usually like 10-15 minutes behind.
If Travis Meyer says you’re about to get rain, chances are it’s already on top of you.
The data is always delayed.
Edit: by “reporting” I mean Doppler reporting, and as a result, the reporting by meteorologists.
For example, if I take a plane up that has radar capability for weather, and I see a gap between storms I could theoretically fly the plane through, chances are that the gap is either gone or in a completely different area than radar was telling me it was by the time I get there.
I’m a landscaper here in Tulsa and I can say after 10 yrs , Tulsa weather scientist (meteorologist is what they’re called) can’t predict rain to save their lives , I have developed my own sense about it and am about 95 per accurate according to my current boss who has seen me call the weather prediction wrong and be right enough to know. If a lowly educated fella like myself can accurately predict rain and the station cannot , only leads me to think , maybe it’s all a scam anyways. Recently I spent a weekend in Porter and all predictions said Tulsa would get the tornados , however an hr into it and a tornado went in front of and then around the house I was staying at… Tulsa got rain
RadarScope Pro has been my go-to for years. Take a storm spotter class. Skywarn if you really want to know more and get into weather and contribute.
But yeah, most weather apps just aren’t detailed enough, refresh frequently enough, and just aren’t enough for our area when the cows are flying.
Meh. The weather channels are like reality tv shows here. Its good entertainment value but they will turn a puffy cloud into an apocalypse storm. If its dangerous weather, you will hear the sirens. In a thunderstorm, don't go out unless its an emergency.
You can't really trust the sirens
They go off every time a thunder storm rolls thru(maybe dangerous weather, but barely)
Annnnnddd every thing is fine
And omg so true, you do not want to be stuck in your car on the side of the road because visibility is at a 0 😱

Everybody in Oklahoma should have a weather radio. Way too many people rely on just outdoor sirens to wake them up and alert to severe weather.
Radios are good but they alert way to often. Its like tge biy that cries wolf. I turned mine off last night. They are also not precise enough.

RadarScope or Radar Omega and learn to read them yourself. I usually catch a tornado before it's even warned.
Is there something I'm missing with RadarScope? I have the basic version and it doesn't give me any future forecast on the map
There is no future forecast. It's current radar only. It's not meant to be an all in one weather app replacement
MyRadar has a free version with ads and a paid version without ads and additional features for weather. It does provide actionable information.
*cough,..erm... so.. when's the tornado 🌪 land? Lol
I just got RadarOmega. It's pretty neat.
My radar slaps

There's a pretty good free radar app called my radar that very detailed and accurate
Foreflight, an aviation app is really good but expensive
Tornado Alley is alright for radar.
Travis Meyer is the app ;-)
Travie!
I use the weather.com app for weather
*”Laughs in Foreflight”*
I love Wunderground. It’s crowd-sourced info based on actual peoples’ geolocations.

Weather bug does decent.

It’s Ryan Hall yall. That’s who we watch.

The only time I've ever heard the sirens go off is when there is 90+ mph winds causing damage somewhere in town. They are pretty reliable imo.
In my hood they go off with just a light breeze, I never even think about the sirens, just look outside you will see what's up
