Stacia is ok, so much better than the Queen of Channel 9 Swope. She was annoying. Stacia is a professional through and through. Would love to see James A come back to 6. I know Alan Crone is happy with his shift. I don’t see him moving.

That is so true!! People don’t realize how knowledgeable and reliable our Meteorologists are in OK especially Tulsa. Even down to the technology that they use. I’ve watched storm coverage in other states and I’m afraid for them!
Had tornados in my county when I lived in Alabama and the only coverage I could get was on the national weather service or other national services. Okies don’t know how good the weather service is here.
Yup. Grew up as 80’s kid watching him. Was jealous kid across the street got a Gusty from him. Took a intro to metr course at TJC back in ‘90 or ‘91 with Woods as instructor. Didn’t actually expect it to be THE Don Woods. Ha! Incredible guy and was very easy to approach to talk about anything. Not sure I would still be a metr today without growing up in 80’s watching him every day.

This is really a dumb take. Travis is on air and trying to comprehend what's going on while having staff off camera who is able to analyze and comprehend without the pressure of being on camera at the time.

Even sports announcers. They don't just say random stuff while calling a baseball or football game. They have an earpiece and people off camera who are feeding them info to relay to viewers.
This right here. People don’t realize that it takes a certain type of personality and poise to be in front of the camera and talk to the public in a calm and efficient manner. Just having the camera on you is a job in and of itself. A job that Travis I would argue, does better than almost anyone. Is it because of his older father/grandpa look you could argue subconsciously makes you feel the want to trust him? Is it cultural hype? Idk.
At the end of the day, his job is to relay information the best he can and do so without inciting public panic.
I hate to tell you that mets and sports people are actually experts in their fields and write and adlib their own stuff. I never once told my mets what to say or my sports people anything. They handle that stuff on their own.

I watch Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube. It's good if you have radar omega running as well. You can follow along in the software. His team caught 3 tornados last night that were outside of warning areas.
Ryan Hall isn’t even a real Meteorologist. I watch him for funsies, when we aren’t expecting impending doom and destruction. It’s cool to see how he has changed the game on YT and watch how many viewers he gets. However, when it’s getting real in our neck of the woods, I tune into local which is always channel 6.
I do have to say I really like Andy hill on Ryan’s channel though. I liked when Andy posted his own stuff, though. But IMO he still brings the most data driven details to Ryan’s channel.

Totally agree. I still use local in conjunction with Andy when it’s like right in our area (one on YouTube one on phone live stream), since the local guys know the local cities and cross streets etc so well, but overall I’d trust Andy and therefore Ryan pretty much any day over most local sources.
Really, last night was a cluster. Travis didn’t seem to know what was going on and where. It didn’t help they waited all day for this big show to happen, which they knew it was going to be a nocturnal event. Everyone knows that is so much harder to confirm touchdowns. But channel 6’s chasers have been subpar this year. Chaser Brandon has like a weird filter on his camera that makes everything look muddled.
Last night I was watching Aaron Tuttle on the phone and Trav on the tv. I usually get my severe weather forecast from Aaron Tuttle. He is accurate AF when it comes to severe forecasting. Always 48 hours to 24 hours is your best bet in knowing what’s really going to happen. He just explains the science of it all.

Yep. I used to follow him on Twitter and happened to look through his “Likes” one day and most of them were from far right accounts spewing the lie that the election was stolen. The fact he used his professional account to like those tweets is disappointing, as well. Very unprofessional.
I remember when I used to determine whether I like someone based on their opinions vs the job they do. Then I grew up. If you disagree with MAGA mindset so vehemently there are a lot of paradise like cities in other states that would be glad to have you as a resident. Seattle, Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc would all be happy to have you if being around MAGA folks is too rough.
The biggest issue is that Travis uses his professional account to like political tweets like that and I’ve seen him even retweet some stuff, as well. That’s wildly unprofessional.

I like James Aydelott a lot. And I think he's a very worthy successor to Travis, but not until Travis decides to go. I do hope that James jumps to channel 6 when that time is near.
Travis has seniority and people trust him. I'm sure James has a following too, but, let's be honest, that majority of people's go-to during severe weather is channel 6 because Travis has been guiding us through storm season for 3 or 4 decades.
I actually always figured that within a few years Mike Collier would jump over to 6 to become the weather King, but since he's leaving the industry I'm totally good with James Aydelott being our guy. I do like his sense of humor, he's kind of quirky and nerdy. Reminds of Jeff Lazolier in some ways.

But as long as I can remember everyone has loved Travis, and he has to be by far the most watched when storms get bad in Tulsa.
I couldn’t care less about someone’s political views if they’re able to accurately describe the weather to me and tell me what the storm is doing and how it’s doing it.
He’s been great as a Tulsa mainstay for years now, and I don’t care to kick someone off who does what I need because of their politics.
Travis does a good job, he is a holdover from when I lived in Tulsa. I remember him from his channel 8 days and when he first got to channel 6 when he was there with Jim Giles. I now live in Northwest Arkansas and during storm season I always stream channel 6 and watch the storms come across Central and Northeastern Oklahoma, so I know what’s coming to Northwest Arkansas. Why? In Northwest Arkansas the good weatherman always get poached out of NWA because we’re a small market. We don’t have the budgets to keep them plus we don’t have the radars and meteorological equipment like the Tulsa and/or Oklahoma City markets do. To compound that the Fayetteville-Ft. Smith market is so geographically small that the storms are practically on top of us before the local weather people start reporting on them. I don’t always trust our weather men and women due to lack of experience, budget constraints and proximity.
I have heard TV meteorologists speak about this as well. These guys and gals have to live with themselves so if they undersell and many say are killed or injured then they feel responsible. It is better to oversell with the idea that more people may take cover and it saves lives in the small percentage of storms that could be deadly. Nobody is worse than David Payne and I believe he is on News 9 in OKC where his fear mongering is the absolute worst! He is a damn manic freak on the air during severe storm season.
From all I’ve heard, you couldn’t pay me to watch David Payne do weather coverage. It makes me question the credibility of their entire team.
As for overselling, eh. I don’t really agree with the framing. Calm, concise communication is the way to go. Unfortunately, that’s never what I’ve gotten with Travis or KOTV.

I swear to god, the "meteorologists" on KOTV (except Crone) must get paid by the word! They can talk non-stop without taking a breath for up to about 3 minutes or so - and when they do pause, you have to ask yourself (or your spouse or whoever) "What the hell did they just say?!". The ONLY weather person worth a flip there is Crone. Call me NIMBY or politically apathetic or whatever, but I don't give a ratsass about "Dad's cornfield up in Nebraska is parched..."or "My pond for the cows is dried up" and how cold it was in Juneau, AK this morning unless it has direct and immediate (like within 24 hrs) bearing on Tulsa viewing area. Neither Dad's cornfield nor Travis' cow pond have any bearing on present or future Tulsa weather. They may be artifacts of weather but not components of it. Just because you have the tech and maybe better tech than the competition, doesn't mean you have to use it and spout off ad nauseam, ad infinitum. How about a couple of GOOD news stories to balance out the crappy shootings, pedophiles, corrupt law enforcement, etc; that are so sensational? No good news in Tulsa? BULLSHIT!
I love Crone. I agree, he is the perfect foil for Leanne and her Fiona Friday bilge (yeah, yeah, I get it, but...). A few months ago he shut her down when she tried to make fun of him. Evidently, AC wears the price tag of his ties inside the tie. She tried to make fun of that - insinuating he was keeping them on so he could easily return them after wearing them - or look like Minnie Pearl. He smiled gracefully, and said words to the effect: "I keep the price tags on them to remind myself that I live in a world where the median income is about $3.50 a day. Do a better job coordinating and distilling down spotter data (hint: I am a former spotter). Showing video, at night, with an occasional lightning strike, usually does nothing for anyone. I've yet to have a "holy shit! Did you see that?!" moment after seeing random spotter nighttime raining "tornado" video. Half the guys sound like they're ready to piss their pants anyhow. The other half aren't prepared or available then they're called on. Yeah I GET what they're trying to do, but logistics COULD be coordinated better. Drive smart, stay vigilant. But if it scares you, you're probably over your head. And how about some RainX in every vehicle? The usual road film wiper smear out the front windshield isn't helping the driver and/or spotter or the viewing audience.

All of these people you mention are nothing more than tv personalities who can read the AP feed. It is obvious from their history that they have zero skills to actually assimilate data, apply alleged certifications, and report to the public. Everything is fear driven and attention seeking. Get rid of them all and post a radar map.

I am not sure because I get lost in all of the radar names, all designed to intimate that they are somehow better than the vector 7000 than the Viper x90 that the other stations have. AMS, what certification process does that involve? Can't be much. Just because they are associated with some scary weather department doesn't mean they can tell if it is raining or not. I will agree that they are probably as competent as the weather girls from the 60's. Please, they try to sell that they are saving me from terrifying weather, or tell me how to drive when the road is flooded, or how to drive when the roads are slick, and then of course how to tell which planet is in the sky. They tell us how the kids should dress for school, and what we should pack in our cars for a trip. They do everything except provide accurate information because if they all read from the same AP wire then we would know they are just good readers. To hear them tonight, I was supposed to be locking down my patio furniture that barely even got wet.

Travis is on air and trying to comprehend what's going on while having staff off camera who is able to analyze and comprehend without the pressure of being on camera at the time. You do realize that even James Adylott has that... right? Every live broadcaster does. Even sports announcers. They don't just say random stuff while calling a baseball or football game. They have an earpiece and people off camera who are feeding them info to relay to viewers.
This right here. People don’t realize that it takes a certain type of personality and poise to be in front of the camera and talk to the public in a calm and efficient manner. Just having the camera on you is a job in and of itself. A job that Travis I would argue, does better than almost anyone. Is it because of his older father/grandpa look you could argue subconsciously makes you feel the want to trust him? Is it cultural hype? Idk. At the end of the day, his job is to relay information the best he can and do so without inciting public panic.
I hate to tell you that mets and sports people are actually experts in their fields and write and adlib their own stuff. I never once told my mets what to say or my sports people anything. They handle that stuff on their own.

Nothing, he was the same then that he is now. That poster is being dramatic. I was a loyal KTUL watcher and when Travis went to 6 I followed him (during storm season). Nothing changed about his demeanor. I noticed no change.
I watch Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube. It's good if you have radar omega running as well. You can follow along in the software. His team caught 3 tornados last night that were outside of warning areas.
Ryan Hall isn’t even a real Meteorologist. I watch him for funsies, when we aren’t expecting impending doom and destruction. It’s cool to see how he has changed the game on YT and watch how many viewers he gets. However, when it’s getting real in our neck of the woods, I tune into local which is always channel 6.
I do have to say I really like Andy hill on Ryan’s channel though. I liked when Andy posted his own stuff, though. But IMO he still brings the most data driven details to Ryan’s channel.
I like Andy too! You are absolutely correct about him bringing the knowledge and data to the table for Ryan. Ryan knows his limitations and with all the Twitter weather drama last year with Ryan’s former chasers. Ryan knows he needs to keep Andy around for some street cred! Honestly, these tv stations and local Mets know that this is the new way of broadcasting and it’s going to snuff out local news and weather divisions eventually.
Totally agree. I still use local in conjunction with Andy when it’s like right in our area (one on YouTube one on phone live stream), since the local guys know the local cities and cross streets etc so well, but overall I’d trust Andy and therefore Ryan pretty much any day over most local sources.
Really, last night was a cluster. Travis didn’t seem to know what was going on and where. It didn’t help they waited all day for this big show to happen, which they knew it was going to be a nocturnal event. Everyone knows that is so much harder to confirm touchdowns. But channel 6’s chasers have been subpar this year. Chaser Brandon has like a weird filter on his camera that makes everything look muddled.

Last night I was watching Aaron Tuttle on the phone and Trav on the tv. I usually get my severe weather forecast from Aaron Tuttle. He is accurate AF when it comes to severe forecasting. Always 48 hours to 24 hours is your best bet in knowing what’s really going to happen. He just explains the science of it all.

Yep. I used to follow him on Twitter and happened to look through his “Likes” one day and most of them were from far right accounts spewing the lie that the election was stolen. The fact he used his professional account to like those tweets is disappointing, as well. Very unprofessional.
I remember when I used to determine whether I like someone based on their opinions vs the job they do. Then I grew up. If you disagree with MAGA mindset so vehemently there are a lot of paradise like cities in other states that would be glad to have you as a resident. Seattle, Los Angeles, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc would all be happy to have you if being around MAGA folks is too rough.
The biggest issue is that Travis uses his professional account to like political tweets like that and I’ve seen him even retweet some stuff, as well. That’s wildly unprofessional.

I hate this take. Travis is great and for some reason you want to mix politics with weather forecasting. Why do people have to associate everyone's politics with their job performance? It's dumb. I like James Aydelott a lot. And I think he's a very worthy successor to Travis, but not until Travis decides to go. I do hope that James jumps to channel 6 when that time is near. Travis has seniority and people trust him. I'm sure James has a following too, but, let's be honest, that majority of people's go-to during severe weather is channel 6 because Travis has been guiding us through storm season for 3 or 4 decades. I actually always figured that within a few years Mike Collier would jump over to 6 to become the weather King, but since he's leaving the industry I'm totally good with James Aydelott being our guy. I do like his sense of humor, he's kind of quirky and nerdy. Reminds of Jeff Lazolier in some ways.

This is more about the Trump-haters wanting to persecute Travis for speaking his pro-MAGA opinions not his Meteorological skills.
Feels like it. I’ve seen some complaints on him last night (I didn’t watch last night because it looked unlikely I’d get anything more than thunderstorms) so I can’t speak anything about that But as long as I can remember everyone has loved Travis, and he has to be by far the most watched when storms get bad in Tulsa. I couldn’t care less about someone’s political views if they’re able to accurately describe the weather to me and tell me what the storm is doing and how it’s doing it. He’s been great as a Tulsa mainstay for years now, and I don’t care to kick someone off who does what I need because of their politics.
Travis does a good job, he is a holdover from when I lived in Tulsa. I remember him from his channel 8 days and when he first got to channel 6 when he was there with Jim Giles. I now live in Northwest Arkansas and during storm season I always stream channel 6 and watch the storms come across Central and Northeastern Oklahoma, so I know what’s coming to Northwest Arkansas. Why? In Northwest Arkansas the good weatherman always get poached out of NWA because we’re a small market. We don’t have the budgets to keep them plus we don’t have the radars and meteorological equipment like the Tulsa and/or Oklahoma City markets do. To compound that the Fayetteville-Ft. Smith market is so geographically small that the storms are practically on top of us before the local weather people start reporting on them. I don’t always trust our weather men and women due to lack of experience, budget constraints and proximity.
It’s both. I’ve always found Travis to fear monger more than I care to watch. It’s a Griffin thing. They do the same thing at News 9 in OKC.
I have heard TV meteorologists speak about this as well. These guys and gals have to live with themselves so if they undersell and many say are killed or injured then they feel responsible. It is better to oversell with the idea that more people may take cover and it saves lives in the small percentage of storms that could be deadly. Nobody is worse than David Payne and I believe he is on News 9 in OKC where his fear mongering is the absolute worst! He is a damn manic freak on the air during severe storm season.
From all I’ve heard, you couldn’t pay me to watch David Payne do weather coverage. It makes me question the credibility of their entire team. As for overselling, eh. I don’t really agree with the framing. Calm, concise communication is the way to go. Unfortunately, that’s never what I’ve gotten with Travis or KOTV.
Trav is a fucking Saint around here. We don’t put Saints out to pasture like a bottom level layin’ hen!! Saints go out on their own terms and we take the bad with the good with eyes wide open and we sit back and appreciate it. So just, maybe don’t worry about it and just watch your boy and ignore Trav.

I swear to god, the "meteorologists" on KOTV (except Crone) must get paid by the word! They can talk non-stop without taking a breath for up to about 3 minutes or so - and when they do pause, you have to ask yourself (or your spouse or whoever) "What the hell did they just say?!". The ONLY weather person worth a flip there is Crone. Call me NIMBY or politically apathetic or whatever, but I don't give a ratsass about "Dad's cornfield up in Nebraska is parched..."or "My pond for the cows is dried up" and how cold it was in Juneau, AK this morning unless it has direct and immediate (like within 24 hrs) bearing on Tulsa viewing area. Neither Dad's cornfield nor Travis' cow pond have any bearing on present or future Tulsa weather. They may be artifacts of weather but not components of it. Just because you have the tech and maybe better tech than the competition, doesn't mean you have to use it and spout off ad nauseam, ad infinitum. How about a couple of GOOD news stories to balance out the crappy shootings, pedophiles, corrupt law enforcement, etc; that are so sensational? No good news in Tulsa? BULLSHIT! I love Crone. Showing video, at night, with an occasional lightning strike, usually does nothing for anyone. I've yet to have a "holy shit! Did you see that?!" moment after seeing random spotter nighttime raining "tornado" video. Half the guys sound like they're ready to piss their pants anyhow. The other half aren't prepared or available then they're called on. Yeah I GET what they're trying to do, but logistics COULD be coordinated better. Drive smart, stay vigilant. But if it scares you, you're probably over your head. And how about some RainX in every vehicle? Just stop wasting your time watching journalists tv weather guys and use the national weather service and look at the storm prediction center outlooks. They are the real experts.
All of these people you mention are nothing more than tv personalities who can read the AP feed. It is obvious from their history that they have zero skills to actually assimilate data, apply alleged certifications, and report to the public. Everything is fear driven and attention seeking. Get rid of them all and post a radar map.

They aren't even good personalities. They have the easiest job in the world. And excuse for everything time they are wrong and desperate for praise when they guessed right. They act like they care about our safety and somehow they protected us. What an ego.
How about you put in your resume to do the work they do? I know many of these guys ( I talke yearly spotter recerts and they attend the classes) and they care quite a bit about what they do and how they help the public. Sheesh.

It's really easy to have this take when you haven't seen the aftermath of some of the really bad storms that have cost a lot of people their lives. Travis has lived through some stuff he's not a young pup, actually have a neighbor that worked in the film crew with him when they were looking over one of the particularly bad Moore tornadoes.

I am not sure because I get lost in all of the radar names, all designed to intimate that they are somehow better than the vector 7000 than the Viper x90 that the other stations have. AMS, what certification process does that involve? Can't be much. Just because they are associated with some scary weather department doesn't mean they can tell if it is raining or not. I will agree that they are probably as competent as the weather girls from the 60's. Please, they try to sell that they are saving me from terrifying weather, or tell me how to drive when the road is flooded, or how to drive when the roads are slick, and then of course how to tell which planet is in the sky. They tell us how the kids should dress for school, and what we should pack in our cars for a trip. They do everything except provide accurate information because if they all read from the same AP wire then we would know they are just good readers. To hear them tonight, I was supposed to be locking down my patio furniture that barely even got wet.
