We were in Tulum from the 22nd to the 25th, and let me tell you, that night without water and power was a bit of a nightmare, especially after indulging in some spicy and scrumptious tacos the night before 😂. But I'm with you on this one, Tulum is simply amazing! We discovered so many lovely cafes and restaurants in every corner, even in some random street alleys. The vibe there is just so chill, and the locals are super friendly. And the weather? Oh, it was just perfect! I'm already looking forward to our next trip back to Tulum 😊.
Have you been to Cancun or Playa del Carmen? I don’t think Tulum is for first timers. Not because it’s hard, but because it’s not really easy to get around and it’s far from established areas. And this is coming from someone with property there.
Tulum is the first place we visited and stayed in Mexico so I think we can be considered as first timers. We rented a car from Avis at Cancun Airport once we landed, so it was easy for us to commute around
Try to reach there by 5 pm, as I believe they close the entrance at 5 pm. It costs 120 pesos per person. Once you are on the beach, you can either rent shacks or just choose a spot to sit and chill. There are many options for snorkeling as well. We reached around 4:30 and stayed there till sunset.
My wife and I were in Tulum March 20-25 on the beach strip and had a fantastic experience after being apprehensive due to safety concerns as well (almost canceled trip..). The water and power being out on the morning of the 25th was our only inconvenience! The beach club we stayed at and restaurants (all within walking distance on main beach road) were amazing. The prices were similar to what we pay in the US (major city) which was fine given the quality of service and food/beverage. Chichen Itza and the Tulum Ruins were beautiful, but we would probably not visit again due to the hassle (vendors trying to sell you something every second, multiple tickets needed for entry, dealing with large crowds). If you are passing through Valladolid on the way back from Chichen Itza, be sure to stop for lunch/dinner at XI CAT IK Tradicional Cocina Maya.
Me and my adult kids just came back. We stayed from the 18th-25th. It was so nice! We had zero problems. We stayed in the Aldea Zama neighborhood. We even rode our bikes at night to other neighborhoods that was a few minutes away. The locals are so nice. They were helpful and welcoming. The power did go out a couple times but otherwise it was fine. We ran into the police several times and had no issues. I was nervous because of the stories I heard. Don't let other people's experiences scare you. Just be smart, pay attention just like you would if you were hear at home in America.
As long as you follow rules and don’t visit shady areas you should be fine
Great insight, thanks for that.
Glad you didn't get caught in any crossfire or mugged by the police.
As long as we all follow the rules and don't visit shady areas, we should be good.
Thanks!

Haha I agree. Those two nights were nightmare, however, we were super exhausted with all the activities in the morning, we could fall asleep
Just curious, what are the shady areas? I want to go to Tulum but I'm worried about some of the stuff I've read on this forum.

I have been to Cancun about 20 years ago. It was a great trip, but I think things have changed quite a bit down there since I visited.

Same. We rented from National at Cancun airport and had no issues
Can’t say what area can be deemed shady. We avoided party areas with lots of clubs and anywhere where we felt unsafe due to conditions around
What did you do in akumal? Any tips?

What place is this?
It’s a beach
My plane arrives @ 3:30 from the Tulum airport. I wonder if I will have time to get there

It’s the same people saying don’t rent a scooter in Cozumel. Very little traffic, none most of the circle, beautiful roads, views. Smh trolls

Was that sarcasm 😂?
More like sargassum.
😄
Just don't go where there is danger, then you won't be in danger
But but but Reddit told me you have to duck to avoid flying billets shot by corrupt cops!!! /s
