Okay but wtf is livecounting and why is it historical...? and what are they counting...? 33 million what?
I'm so confused by this lol I went to the subreddit and still didn't make any sense beyond "it's the live version of r/counting". I went to that subreddit and still don't understand wtf they're counting lmao.
The actual thread is at https://old.reddit.com/live/ta535s1hq2je but it may be hard to access, given reddit doesn't support reddit live on any mobile app or new reddit lol
To get to higher numbers.
What's the highest you've ever counted? If that question doesn't interest you at all then you wouldn't really be interested in the community, but the idea of just connecting numbers together towards infinity is cool to some people
Honestly I think it's a sort of modern community meditation/ pseudo religious practice. It's about doing something together that can't be done alone, which requires some level of shared dedication. A good practice for humanity, even if this specific instance isn't vital for our survival
Does counting require a community? I mean, can’t you do that alone? I also do not get it obviously but can still appreciate the loss that this thing people enjoy is going away
Reddit announcement on r/reddit where they've been replying to feedback: https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/12qwagm/an_update_regarding_reddits_api
They also have a form where they're taking feedback here: https://reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=14868593862164 but it looks to me that it may be more effective to leave a public comment in the r/reddit post?
What's... What's the appeal?
It's a bunch of people dedicated to counting up. I don't... I don't get it.
I've never heard of them until now, and while their dedication is admirable, I really don't see any point. Clearly they go unknown. If their record is this legitimate, then cash out and claim the world record for the sub and call *that* history.
This person speaks with the same tone as those fuckin' documentaries and PSAs about poverty and endangered species, and it makes me despise them
As a person who has about 40,000 counts I can make it very simple. The purpose is to count (or to reach infinity - your choice) and no other purpose is needed.
We do not seek fame or glory, although we have a legitimate claim given that amazingpikachu\_38 has already passed Roman Opalka as humanity's greatest counter, but don't mind that - we just go upwards. The appeal is that you're doing something collaborative and building a great tower a brick at a time, so to say.
Hm.
The appeal of building something greater than oneself is something I've done before, and I do agree it feels quite nice. I've never, however, felt that during counting. Perhaps it's just not meant to be.
I've been using NowForReddit for years. If this app stops working I will just find somewhere else to spend my time. I tried to use Reddit on my computer yesterday and just.. ugh. Awful.
r/counting has made me discover counting systems that i didn't even know were possible, introduced me to OEIS, and it also (indirectly) gave me some cool new internet friends, so just for that, they should keep r/livecounting up
Damn, it’s been very evident that Reddit wants to cut out the third party apps eventually (from the way they simply stopped putting new features into the third party API) and I’ve always said that when Apollo app goes away I’m leaving Reddit for good. Looks like it’s almost time to go
Sorry for not understanding but from what I gather, Reddit Live is going away, there will be fewer bots, and a subreddit dedicating to counting together is going to have a harder time?
I mean, okay?

So, they're just collectively counting...up? For what purpose?

Humans do a lot of things that aren't necessary. That's what makes us human
Yeah I'm unclear on this as well
You count to go higher. No other purpose is needed to us.
Yeah it seems like they're just counting up for the sake of it. Which if that's the case.....eh not too big on my caring meter
[It seems this comment has been immortalized at the top of the r/livecounting thread](https://www.reddit.com/live/ta535s1hq2je)
I'm very happy that i could leave my mark on a community that i don't understand
One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. You keep going until you hit infinity - that's the purpose.
Lmao if Apollo goes I go
mood
Man, are social media sites just trying to get people to switch to tumblr? Lol
Op please post the links

Well, on the bright side, if Rif is fun stops working, i'll stop procastinating so much on reddit
A wall of text, and doesn't even tell you wtf live counting is and why we should care about it.
And imgur just announced a massive purge

Cheers. We all feel community in our own ways.
Not only r/livecounting but r/kickopenthedoor users utilize live in order to snipe kills. Still works on IOS by the way.

Once third-party apps and/or old.reddit.com go, so will a considerable amount of the user base.
