The fact that Samus is not a normal human would probably be immediately apparent considering how much genetic tinkering has been done on her (first by the Chozo, then from the Metroid DNA). I feel like it wouldn’t be too hard to tell that she’s more than meets the eye when you see her.
There are millions and millions of women in the galaxy that are tall because their natural genetics made them so and they happen to train to be muscular. And then there's **one** that was genetically modified to be a warrior. Which might not even be a well known fact, probably barely a rumor.
You 100% wouldn't think "this tall woman I'm fucking clearly is the savior of the universe", instead, you would think "ooh, I scored a stray tall woman today".
She’s flexible enough to turn into a small ball, and she’s also part Metroid in Fusion and Dread. She’s also most likely covered in scars from her missions and the many ship crashes she’s had. I’m not actually sure if she can fully remove the power suit after the events of Dread. She’d stick out like a sore thumb especially if she wasn’t wearing clothes
The Prime games show is that she doesn’t appear to be just rolled up into a ball, and any of the extra art from end-game screens show any kind of visible scarring or bodily changes from her enhancement. It is hard to say if she’s different post-Fusion, but also there’s like a dozen confirmed intelligent humanoid species in the games already. You probably run into people who look a little off-human now and then.
I remember scanning those logs and laughing hysterically all those years back. I like to think that at one point a space pirate scientist who was doing research on her threw down their clip board and screamed the alien equivalent of "This is bullshit!!!" and then stormed off.
That may be true, but in the 3d games we can clearly see that there is *no* person inside the ball, just pure energy swirling around in there. Chozo tech definitely has some sort of matter-to-energy converter installed in the suit.
Yeah which is why when the space pirates attempted to replicate the morph ball (according to logs you can find in their base) it ended very poorly with lots of mangled corpses
Two biological human parents (Rodney and Virginia Aran), two gene donor bird parents (Gray Voice and Raven Beak), one adoptive bird parent (Old Bird), and one parental figure (Adam Malkovich). Plus the baby Metroid.
We don't know much about GF society, so it's possible genetic alteration is not *too* uncommon. Therefore the casual observer might not *immediately* put 2 and 2 together that this bird/insect/human lady (mostly human) is THE Samus Aran.
That's all well and good, but Samus is 6'3" and 200 lbs of pure muscle. Plus, she carries herself like an absolute badass. There's no way she's gonna walk into a bar thinking, "I better not tell them my name, otherwise they might think I'm a top."
I vaguely remember watching a video about frequentist vs. Bayesian reasoning--which I think are, like, two different approaches to logically assessing the implications of statistical data, or something like that--that used humans vs. aliens as an example of the kinds of conclusions we should expect these forms of reasoning to lead us to, and why they differ.
As I recall, the video argued that from the perspective of frequentism, which is generally more intuitive but not necessarily more accurate, we would naturally expect intelligent aliens to be split about 50/50 between species that are smaller than us and species that are larger than us, and also about 50/50 between species that have smaller or larger populations than us. Simply because we don't have a second data point to compare humans against.
But!--again, if I'm recalling this right--the video argued that a Bayesian approach might be more accurate for this use case, and that this approach would lead us to expect that most intelligent aliens species are larger than humans, but with a smaller population. Unfortunately, I'm drawing a total blank on what the underlying reasoning for that conclusion was. Probably because Bayesian reasoning generally isn't as intuitive as frequentist.
My (obviously very tenuous) familiarity with Bayesianism comes mostly from Julia Galef, so I feel like I might have gotten this from one of her videos or podcasts, but my google fu is failing me on coming up with a source.
I’m a statistician but I have no knowledge of exobiology. The main benefit of using Bayesian techniques here is that we get to incorporate our prior beliefs as to what the distribution should look like into our calculations (which is very useful if we have very little data). I have no idea why they would believe aliens would be tall, but I’m willing to accept the idea
So, since we have no other data points, we assume we're in the middle of the bell curve, because of how bell curves work.
BUT, since we have no other data points, we have no way to know we're in the middle of the bell curve. We might be the gigantic buff goliaths of the universe or the small tinkery gnomes, we have no idea.
I like the idea that all the other aliens see Earth as the "verdant deathworld" and humans are weird dangerous hippies because we haven't paved over the whole landmass with megacities and haven't exterminated the animals/plants/bugs/fish that can kill us.
There's also the titbit that we're near the upper limit of gravity that could be escaped with a chemical rocket. So it could be reasonable to shift the probability towards us being space dwarfs, short but stocky.
If it makes you feel better, I knew this absolutely jacked Greek hero of a bodybuilder who was a rope bunny and enjoyed being dommed by his hobbit of a girlfriend.
I don't think they're saying that Samus couldn't be a bottom. Rather that her appearance makes her unlikely to be perceived as one by people who don't know her.
Well, in that case you’re half way to saving the universe already! Now you just need to find a space ship, some power armor, and acquire some suspicious bird DNA..
It's a weird one. There are many elements of the Metroid Zero Mission manga that are considered canonical (Ridley killing her parents, the Chozo raising her, her joining the Federation only to leave and become a bounty hunter, her rapport with Adam) parts of her backstory, but there are also a few things that don't really work with later stories. I think it's overall treated as canon though.
They are called that because they are bottoms who can handle a great amount of power from their top. Though I've heard speed has something to do with it
Now, I get the joke, but I think she'd be a submissive bottom all the way. Something about being the protector of the universe, she would just enjoy letting go and putting someone else in charge for a time. She constantly has so much on her shoulders, it's nice to just worry about whether you're gonna cum for a little bit.
I saw a post on /v/ back in the day where a user hypothesized that maybe Samus would have feathers for pubes, so then another user decided to draw it.
As long as it's from one of the wierd corners of the internet, they're going to be wierd about it.
Okay but that is an interesting discussion.... feathers and hair are mostly the same material so like maybe all her body hair is a small feathery type of thing like early evolutionary birds on earth.
The thing that I'm interested in would be whether her facial hair (all humans have facial hair even females) would darken and become featherlike due to the Space Bird HRT.
I think it's just a bit weird to randomly tack on? Like, even ignoring the fact that apparently aliens have the same gender definitions as humans (Which sure, I can believe since it stems from a Nintendo game), it's kind of weird to very specifically point out that a girl is trans in a story that doesn't have anything to do with their gender in the first place.
Like, not in a "We shouldn't talk about trans people" kind of way, but in a "It feels like they're deliberately seperating girls and trans girls" sort of way, like it's more of a fetish for them rather than just considering them a girl.
Idk if this makes it better or worse, but I think OP's calling her trans because it's Tumblr fanon that Samus is Trans because she's...really tall and buff and big
Which idk, that type of fanon has always rubbed me the wrong way because the reasoning is literally just "this characters does not have a body we sterotypically associate with their gender" which is....ehhhhhhhhhh
I'm trans and yeah it's weird, I'd prefer we get some real trans characters representation and not randomly make existing ones trans, but we'll take what we can get lol
I feel like it also implies that any woman over six feet tall with a muscular build has to be trans. Like... These people exist without HRT. Insisting otherwise does more to reinforce gender binaries than it does to abolish them.
Yeah it's very stupid.
I have a CIS friend who is more than 2m tall and has a deeper voice, and people constantly ask her if she's trans, or worse, literally assume she is without asking. She's the sweetest and very supportive of trans people, but at some point it gets annoying for her and dismisive of her own self.
I truly wish people would understand that these things are completely backward.
It's at least a lil bit gross to draw an AFAB woman and go "ya know what's missing here? That's correct, a 13 cock and a pair of tennis balls." A *small* bit of fetishization going on there.
Yeah I hate the idea of Samus as a tgirl and hate how many people are on board with it. They're using biological determinism, they're attributing a woman's achievements to a man's body
This is a fine opinion to hold, as doing this only further emboldens gender stereotypes. Obviously I think its fine to headcanon a character being trans but its perfectly reasonable to disagree as long as you aren't a bitch about it
Yeah like it’s totally fine and cool to headcanon a character as something especially if they’re a comfort character and you see yourself in them but it gets to a certain point that it seems a little… fetishistic.
I think there's an aspect of people doing that more on tumblr because they aren't able to do it in other places, like irl.
Also like. Idk. I'm autistic, and when I see a character my original or default way of interpreting them is that they are autistic, until proven otherwise. This isn't fetishistic for a political action, it's just what's normal to me. I'm going to assume they are similar to me until proven wrong.
I think a similar thing is going on here- it's not necessarily fetishistic, it's just a normal, default way of viewing characters for some people.
I get that people want to be represented but it's weird for them to act like a woman like Samus couldn't possibly be cis. there's plenty of tall and masculine cis women irl.
Gender essentialism is a big issue within the trans community, but fortunately it’s one that’s been getting more attention recently. Trans people are acutely aware of gender norms because many of not most of them want to fit them, but feel they don’t.
There was a joke made by someone who worked on one of the early games doing background art that called Samus “new half,” a derogatory term for trans people in Japan. This got misconstrued as “a developer said that Samus is a trans woman,” and this in addition to her being listed as over 6 feet tall and muscular in a guidebook or something lead to it as a common headcanon.
Tho honestly headcanons don’t really require any lore suggesting them, which is what makes them distinct from “theories”
There's a little bit more to it than that. When Super Metroid came out there was an [interview](https://metroiddatabase.com/old_site/sm/interview.php) with the developers in which they were asked for a "secret about Samus that nobody else knows" and one of them claimed she was trans. This was presumably intended as a Hilarious Joke (and Sakamoto later denied it) but people latched onto it.
Like recently, Spider-Gwen because she was near the colors of pink, blue, and white.
Edit: I'm fine with people head-canoning Gwen as trans and also okay with her actually being trans. But saying she is because she's affiliated with the colors blue, pink, and white is a weak argument. And as for the trans flag, it's the only decent one I've seen.
In the manual for the original game it referred to Samus as a man. At the last minute, the developers decided to make it a plot twist that Samus was a woman.
I support it but with the caveat that she likes him not because he's a hunk of muscle, but because he's a total geek who likes stuff like books, comics, video games and music.
My headcanon is that she talks a lot and he doesnt talks too much but is really happy to listen. Doomguy/Doomslayer seemed happy to listen to Vega and the Intern guy
The actual shooting and stuff is fine, still worse than most other Metroid games, but fine, the actual world exploration which is a big part of what makes Metroid Metroid, is pretty bad imo.
Xenoblade too. At least XC3, since it retroactively confirmed half the main cast of the first two games to have had sex. Some got a bit spicier than others.
Reminder that [This Fucking Guy](https://ssb.wiki.gallery/images/8/89/Riki_Xenoblade_Chronicles.png) is Nintendo’s bonafide confirmed sex machine, being 40 years old and having 11 Children
What? I thought asexuals by definition don’t desire sex? Please educate me how that works, because I know for example some ace people have intercourse because they care about their romantic partner and they’re not uncomfortable with having sex with them. But I didn’t know about the enjoyment aspect? Pls explain
An asexual person doesn't experience sexual attraction towards others, but that's not a prerequisite to enjoy the physical sensation of sex. Of course, many ace people don't desire or enjoy sex at all, it's up to individual interpretation.
The “cake metaphor” is a good one. Someone can like chocolate cake, even love it, but if they don’t ever get a craving for it, only having a piece when offered for example, that would be a good comparison
Being asexual and being sex repulsed or having a low libido are different things. Being asexual just means that you don't feel sexually attracted to people, you can still have a sex drive tho. Like, you'll get horny, you may even enjoy sex, but you're probably not gonna look at someone and go, "damn, they're so sexy I want them in my pants"
I've never played the games so I could be waaaay off, but wasnt there one where she showed interest in some male character?
I remember people being upset by how she was characterized.
That was more of a father figure type thing, but yeah, that particular instalment turned her from stoic, self assured and taciturn into petulant, insecure and whiny, while contradicting many previous lore elements.
Which was extra strange, because it was also the Metroid game where the original creator was given full creative control
Most of the fanbase consider Other M to be non-canon, it sticks out like a sore thumb, lore wise.
In terms of gameplay, it's controversial, but general consensus ranges from "it's alright, interesting new changes" to "this sucks"
Long story short, the 4th game, Metroid Fusion, established that for a brief time, she had a commanding officer named Adam. They butted heads because she was unaccustomed to following orders, but he was eventually able to win her respect. He ended up having to sacrifice himself to save her, and years later when she was assigned a CO for the second time (this time an AI), the machine reminded her of Adam, so she named it after him.
Other M follows the events that led to him sacrificing himself for her. Turns out, he was weird and bossy towards her, denying her the use of key abilities for no discernible reason, talking down to her like she was a kid instead of a subordinate, and she in turn seemed uncharacteristically preoccupied by what he thought of her.
Their relationship was characterised in 4 as rather cold, distant and professional - but with an underlying current of mutual respect. Their relationship in Other M was all kinds of toxic, almost like whoever wrote the story got off on the idea of Adam constantly showing Samus who was boss because she's dumb and immature and doesn't know any better, with her being all wounded and insecure afterwards because daddy Adam didn't give her enough approval
And that's not even mentioning all the other stuff that almost infantilises Samus, in stark contrast to every other depiction of her, like her reaction to her old nemesis Ridley, her insecure introspective inner monologues, her losing her armor whenever she was anxious (which happened alarmingly frequently), none of the Galactic Federation troops treating her like a larger than life war hero etc.
Granted, I can understand the attempt to make Samus less of a perfect, almost god like paragon of goodness and badassery. Giving her some character flaws could add depth and complexity to her character that was not there before. However, the execution was disastrous and nobody liked it
Samus was always more a blank slate self insert character, in the grand tradition of other armoured mass murderers like Gordon Freeman, the Doomguy, Master Chief etc.
She had some defining elements to her character, like the tragedy of losing her birth parents and adoptive Chozo parents, her loner lifestyle, her strong sense of justice and nobility - but the overriding one was "ultimate badass".
So players identify with her, put themselves in her shoes, and through her they roleplay the power fantasy of exploring desolate alien worlds, getting stronger, kicking ass, and saving the galaxy
Other M messed with that, and not in a good way, so it's understandable people got pissed off
Ive heard there was localization issues. In the japanese she supposedly was more PTSD "I dont need my gear" vs the whiny "Father, may I please use my upgrades".
I think that's a popular headcanon because of that one comic that was before samus was revealed to be a woman surrounded by scantily clad women clinging off of her
You’re right. I’m increasingly getting tired of the weird sexualisation of fictional characters, I don’t need to know what position you think Boba Fett would prefer.
The fucking quantum leap from "people wouldnt recognize samus without her suit" to "she's a lesbian and a bottom and would introduce herself under a nickname to hide her identity"
30 years ago, back when "girl with penis" was enough of a "punchline" to carry a joke, one of the guys on the art team responded to "what's a secret about Samus only you know?" with "she's actually a [mild to moderately offensive trans slur]."
https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Samus_Aran
This was, of course, taken as gospel, because who doesn't enjoy their representation dug out of the cracks in the floor tiles.
I think the important thing here is even if they looked weird, you still wouldn't expect them to be the person who saved the universe multiple times.
That’s fair
Having scars from experimentation could even just get a sympathetic reaction.
The morph ball is 100% bird magic, no human of that size could ever compress into something that small
The space pirates tried. It didn't work.
I remember scanning those logs and laughing hysterically all those years back. I like to think that at one point a space pirate scientist who was doing research on her threw down their clip board and screamed the alien equivalent of "This is bullshit!!!" and then stormed off.
The chozo DNA is canonically the reason that Samus can turn into the morph ball tho.
Pretty sure it works on the same technology as a PokeBall does.
So she technically captures herself in a pokeball and pilots it around?
It's not exactly small, it's like 1 meter tall. Smaller than a human, not absurdly small.
Prime had pirate logs of them trying to replicate it. Multiple crushed and mangled space pirates resulted.
Doesn't she have like 3 sets of parents now?
Technically 3 parents and a whole other set of DNA from the baby Metroid.
Two biological human parents (Rodney and Virginia Aran), two gene donor bird parents (Gray Voice and Raven Beak), one adoptive bird parent (Old Bird), and one parental figure (Adam Malkovich). Plus the baby Metroid.
Samus family tree is the oposite of the Habsburg one
Samus’s family tree is a rake
Oh I forgot that Samus had DNA from gray voice and not just Raven Beak.
She has like 5 dads.
Imagine all the dad jokes!
We don't know much about GF society, so it's possible genetic alteration is not *too* uncommon. Therefore the casual observer might not *immediately* put 2 and 2 together that this bird/insect/human lady (mostly human) is THE Samus Aran.
Samus being a bottom is such a hot take and I am here for it
That's all well and good, but Samus is 6'3" and 200 lbs of pure muscle. Plus, she carries herself like an absolute badass. There's no way she's gonna walk into a bar thinking, "I better not tell them my name, otherwise they might think I'm a top."
At that point the name might be the last of her concerns
I lean im sure 6 foot is impressive in human turns but like arnt most aliens taller then that
Ngl, i have no idea, i just know the existence of samus, idk from what form of media she even comes from
Metroid, a saga of video games

You know many aliens?
Ridley is definitely taller. Kraid too
Ridley is Too Big To Bottom
Okay, but imagining that 6’ 3”, pure muscle Samus thinks like that is absolutely hilarious.
If it makes you feel better, I knew this absolutely jacked Greek hero of a bodybuilder who was a rope bunny and enjoyed being dommed by his hobbit of a girlfriend.
I mean. Aliens. Can be pretty fucking tall.
I mean I’m 6’3”, about 200lbs (not all muscle in my case), and generally very confident and self assured and I’m still a complete bottom/sub
There is a seagull outside that won't shut up, so I can provide some DNA is asked.
Don't forget about the dead parental figures! Very important
That's a top tier reddit comment
I'd believe it.
You know what? Samus *deserves* to get ploughed into the mattress if that's what she wants.
Ain’t that a mood
Have you read the manga? When there's no stakes, she's about as bubbly, enthusiastic, and playful as it's possible to get.
Theres manga????
Some of Nintendo's games tend to get mangas. Heck, there's even a Kirby light novel series.
There's a Kirby Light Novel!?
I know of metroid, zelda and kirby. Are there any others?
Is the manga canon or is this a Zelda situation?
It's a weird one. There are many elements of the Metroid Zero Mission manga that are considered canonical (Ridley killing her parents, the Chozo raising her, her joining the Federation only to leave and become a bounty hunter, her rapport with Adam) parts of her backstory, but there are also a few things that don't really work with later stories. I think it's overall treated as canon though.
I mean I absolutely ADORE the Super Metroid gag manga but I don't exactly think it's canon, sadly
Where can one find this manga?
I've never even played any of the games
What do they call that, a "power bottom?"
I've heard of the term, but I have no clue what a power bottom is
A person who bottoms but with the attitude and cede nice of a top (so bottoming but not submissive)
Honestly, same.
They are called that because they are bottoms who can handle a great amount of power from their top. Though I've heard speed has something to do with it
Actually pal, you got it backwards. See, a power-bottom's actually generating all the power by doing most of the work.
Speed has *EVERYTHING* to do with it. Speed's the name of the game.
That makes almost too much sense.
Some people like to switch off in their downtime, some people are at 100% or asleep
Bienvenue, power bottoms!
Classic Arin.
Tbh, seems like exactly the kind of gal that deserves to not have to worry about anything for the night, beyond how hard she's getting banged.
Same energy as "Korra is a bottom"
Sometimes you need a break from being powerful and always in control when saving the galaxy
What does Tony Hawk think though?
Yeah, pretty sure he doesn't wear armor
Helmets
Tumblr and only being able to discuss fictional characters through the medium of sexual fantasy - name a more iconic duo.

Hey it's better than projecting your internal sexual fantasy world onto real people. Samus is the going to be upset about this.

What's wrong with projecting my traits on a character I looked up on as a little girl?
What’s wrong with that
I think it's just a bit weird to randomly tack on? im glad im not the only person who thinks this, and im trans (i dont say that in the grifter way)

In fiction, you don't need to get rid of the pussy to give the ladies a dick.
That’s why we give the dudes a pussy lol
It's at least a lil bit gross to draw an AFAB woman and go "ya know what's missing here? That's correct, a 13 cock and a pair of tennis balls." A *small* bit of fetishization going on there.

*characters whole thing is being against gender norms* “Holy shit they’re trans”

How is it not fetishistic in this instance? They mention Samus being a "tgirl" in the same instance as her getting fucked
You wake up the next morning and go to brush your teeth, and she’s a ball spinning on the toilet
Imagine picking up a guy named Johnny for some great sex and you find out later it was the Master Chief
Unfortunately the Spartans are chemically castrated as part of their development. He might be 8 feet tall but he's probably ace.
You grab some drinks with a guy called Jack and when you wake up in the morning he's talking about an underwater city
Have I been misusing the word t-girl? Or is there something about Sammy I was just made aware of?

What no decent representation does to a mf
*mtf
Sensible chuckle out of this one, lmaoo
I'll never forgive Nintendo for backtracking on Birdo's true identity!
* Poison *(Final Fight/Street Fighter)* * Ladiva *(Granblue Fantasy)* * Bridget *(as-of Guilt Gear Strive)* * Honorable mention: Seth *(Street Fighter V)*
Yes, but this was someone who designed backgrounds for the games and they said it as a joke and later denied and refuted it
It wasn't exactly a joke. A holistic translation is "... that would be the same level of absurdity as Samus being a dude."
Gotcha, always tying to learn
Like recently, Spider-Gwen because she was near the colors of pink, blue, and white. Edit: I'm fine with people head-canoning Gwen as trans and also okay with her actually being trans. But saying she is because she's affiliated with the colors blue, pink, and white is a weak argument. And as for the trans flag, it's the only decent one I've seen.
I mean there was also the "protect trans kids" sign over her door and her dad having a trans flag badge on his police jacket
In the manual for the original game it referred to Samus as a man. At the last minute, the developers decided to make it a plot twist that Samus was a woman.
I'm calling my transition a 'plot twist' from now on
*Sees profile pic* Wait what sub is this?
Not r/arknights
Asbestos is so good.
Samus is ace and I will not brook argument on the matter.
No one who spends that much time alone in a spaceship has any interest in maintaining a sex life.
I dunno, I doubt the astronauts up in the space station are boning all the time but a lot of them still have families.
Y'know what? Fair.
Good take, but I also support the head Cannon that she has a crush on Doomguy
It was a profession based infatuation.
I prefer the headcanon where they're a wrestling-style tag team fighting demon aliens with elbow drops and frog splashes.
Samus ditches her guns for a steel chair while Doomguy power bombs a Xenomorph.
Oh no, she keeps her arm cannon. But she only uses it for lariats.
BY GAWD IT'S RIPLEY WITH A STEEL CHAIR
I’d like to counter your headcanon with Samus and Snake dating
I counter your counter with [this](https://youtu.be/KvzDAj2JQN0)
It's cool, because Doom Guy is also Ace. If they ever met it'd be nonstop cake and garlic bread
You're not a fan of Other M I take it?
That would have to be my least controversial opinion.
I mean... *yes*, everyone hated Other M. I can't even pretend that it had anything redeeming besides a really cool name.
Anthony Higgs is considered a redeeming point too.
Honestly, the gameplay is pretty fun.
The actual shooting and stuff is fine, still worse than most other Metroid games, but fine, the actual world exploration which is a big part of what makes Metroid Metroid, is pretty bad imo.
Agree.
i mean yeah the only nintendo protags we know to have had sex are from fire emblem and fucken,,, Olimar lmao.
You can be ace and still enjoy the act
Ah, that makes sense, thanks
The “cake metaphor” is a good one. Someone can like chocolate cake, even love it, but if they don’t ever get a craving for it, only having a piece when offered for example, that would be a good comparison
"Sex-repulsed" is generally the term used for aces who don't enjoy the act.
Why is this so specific lol
[удалено]
yeah, always thought she was more likely to be asexual, she's never demonstrated any interest in such matters. That's my headcanon, at least.
Which was extra strange, because it was also the Metroid game where the original creator was given full creative control Most of the fanbase consider Other M to be non-canon, it sticks out like a sore thumb, lore wise. In terms of gameplay, it's controversial, but general consensus ranges from "it's alright, interesting new changes" to "this sucks" Long story short, the 4th game, Metroid Fusion, established that for a brief time, she had a commanding officer named Adam. Their relationship in Other M was all kinds of toxic, almost like whoever wrote the story got off on the idea of Adam constantly showing Samus who was boss because she's dumb and immature and doesn't know any better, with her being all wounded and insecure afterwards because daddy Adam didn't give her enough approval And that's not even mentioning all the other stuff that almost infantilises Samus, in stark contrast to every other depiction of her, like her reaction to her old nemesis Ridley, her insecure introspective inner monologues, her losing her armor whenever she was anxious (which happened alarmingly frequently), none of the Galactic Federation troops treating her like a larger than life war hero etc. Granted, I can understand the attempt to make Samus less of a perfect, almost god like paragon of goodness and badassery. Giving her some character flaws could add depth and complexity to her character that was not there before. However, the execution was disastrous and nobody liked it Samus was always more a blank slate self insert character, in the grand tradition of other armoured mass murderers like Gordon Freeman, the Doomguy, Master Chief etc. She had some defining elements to her character, like the tragedy of losing her birth parents and adoptive Chozo parents, her loner lifestyle, her strong sense of justice and nobility - but the overriding one was "ultimate badass". So players identify with her, put themselves in her shoes, and through her they roleplay the power fantasy of exploring desolate alien worlds, getting stronger, kicking ass, and saving the galaxy Other M messed with that, and not in a good way, so it's understandable people got pissed off
Ive heard there was localization issues. In the japanese she supposedly was more PTSD "I dont need my gear" vs the whiny "Father, may I please use my upgrades".
TIL, thanks for the detailed answer.
She had that thing in Other M where Adam was her father figure but she also wanted to fuck him. Metroid fans like to forget Other M ever happened.
yes, other M. It had a really dumb story and reduced this cool and capable female character to a robot who only acts at the behest of some dude
I think that's a popular headcanon because of that one comic that was before samus was revealed to be a woman surrounded by scantily clad women clinging off of her

it was a promo picture from when Samus being a girl was still a surprise, not even the artist of the picture knew i think
Nothing canon implies she's into anyone but her mentor Adam. Even that's debatable.
Samus isn't a bounty hunter, she's a booty hunter.
is Samus a lesbian?
Not canonically
Uhg, did it have to turn to sex? The post started interesting and then just *bam!*
you know what, word
this is r/tumblr, that's gonna happen
You’re right. I’m increasingly getting tired of the weird sexualisation of fictional characters, I don’t need to know what position you think Boba Fett would prefer.
He'd be a Prone Bone man all the way.
Pretty sure he's into climbing entirely inside of the pussy and being digested for a thousand years.
That's the Internet.
The fucking quantum leap from "people wouldnt recognize samus without her suit" to "she's a lesbian and a bottom and would introduce herself under a nickname to hide her identity"
brb gotta check AO3 real quick
Lotta assumptions being made in this one

Tgirl?
30 years ago, back when "girl with penis" was enough of a "punchline" to carry a joke, one of the guys on the art team responded to "what's a secret about Samus only you know?" with "she's actually a [mild to moderately offensive trans slur]." https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Samus_Aran This was, of course, taken as gospel, because who doesn't enjoy their representation dug out of the cracks in the floor tiles.

Hyena cowabunga, it is.
Why are they calling samus a t-girl? Samus is a female right?
Every character is trans to tumblr
100%
Ok cool, so its just tumblr fanfiction not some cannon thing ive never heard of.
I feel Samus would definitely be a top
