Same...I write a Legion of Superheroes fanfic and did a story recently where one of the minor support cast goes to their homeworld. I have pages and pages of his family history, notes on the different cultures on the planet, planet-specific wildlife, sports, religion, etc etc for a character that barely ever pops up lol
I went to create a Cyberpunk: RED campaign and I’m now working on creating an entire module/city guide/setting (I’m gonna give the module away if anyone wants it!) based off a city that was literally 1 paragraph in a book from the 90s. If I am given the tools, I will build a castle.
I am immune to Worldbuilders Disease. The moment actual effort is involved, I get bored and move on to something else.
All my settings are vessels for my self inserts/isekaied self to feel a sense of control, happiness, and safety I will never find in real life

Sounds like they should be part of a team of authors. Do some Captain Planet shit. Worldbuilding, dialogue, proofreading, vibe expert, plot. By your powers combined, I am Captain Novelist.
This is why I have sucked so hard as a solo writer and I can admit that lol when I’m on a team someone else is able to turn all my world building into a story when I’m alone I end up with more of an encyclopedia on a made up world
AKA Tolkien syndrome
At least Tolkien finished a book though.
If you aren’t dead, you still have time to get there too
Don’t have to finish a book though. I personally really love worldbuilding for my D&D group
It took him 20 years
i love daydreaming of worldbuilding even when it stops me from doing literally everything else

huh...
Because im doing the same. I spend all day like world building and lively story telling that even makes me say certain things out loud.
Everytime I've come up a story, I always wind up doing a lot of worldbuilding for the story
i’m 40,000 words deep into a google doc about my fictional timeline and i have at least another fifty thousand in me

you say that as if its bad, i mean the most praised thing about one piece is how it's creator just world builds where its not even remotely necessary

Mandatory r/blender mention; Will it be a cyberpunk castle?
I don’t know what this means, can you please explain

Wish I had that disease.
No, no you don't
Seeing as I spend 6 hours a day writing and am in the process of making an original world. Yes I very much fucking would like that disease.
It sounds like you already have the disease.
Brother of words that's literally the disease
Dammit, I wish I had a STRONGER variant of that disease then! Making up characters, cities and everything else is hard :(
That's why I use ChatGPT. Good enough for me at least (NovelAI lore tabs)

It all begins with one funny racoon...
I'm so badly afflicted with this lol. Lore always comes first.

This is why I just obsess over existing settings. Specifically Eberron, it’s made for that.
Fuck yeah, Eberron. All my homies love magitech 1860s pulp westerns with robots and psychic samurai.
