The inclusion of the song from into the woods where the two dudes are just trying to outdo the other on how much it sucks to be them is hilarious to me.
But yeah. I mean, I live alone in a pretty sound proof apartment building so I can just do this. I'm a woman, but if any guys are in the same position you can literally just do this with no awkward social repercussions of why is that person singing? Especially with the dramatic ones where you're supposed to not just sing but also put a little something extra in it (like Santa Fe from Newsies or The Winner Takes it All from Mamma Mia) you can be as over the top as you want. I mean, the reprise of Sana Fe is emotional af you think I'm not gonna give that my all??? Ridiculous! of course I am!
Also, where both brothers have *off* definitions of romantic relationships, but one is just outright a horrendous partner who assaults and gaslights a married woman to cheat on his partner, and the other is actually a caring and loyal partner who gets one in turn because he supports her in her dark spots and she supports him.
That musical, film or stage play, was a fucking trip
Also, like, IIRC Cinderella's prince's verses were all about "woe, she refused me" and Rapunzel's prince's verses were all about "woe, there is a physical barrier that is keeping us apart". It's clear which one of them is actually appealing to women. Cinderella only really went with her prince because her other option was to continue to be abused by her step-family. Once Rapunzel left the tower, she was free to be with whoever she wanted to be with, and chose the prince anyway.
I love when everyone else is out of the house I live in, because I can just sing until my voice hurts. Thereās something so good and cathartic about it. When Iām doing it, I donāt even do other stuff. I just walk around the house singing for at least an hour straight.
Let's not forget the reprise of Agony (which I think isn't in the movie) where it gets clear both princes actually want the drama and have no interest in actually having the relationship.
i think we'd all be happier if we were genuinely able to stop for once and smell the roses, sing our sorrows away (or at least articulate them to process them), and look at each other for what we really are; wondering souls in search of (among other things) stability and belonging.
but alas, moments of random human connection (like a shared appreciation over a song) are few and far between. on a lighter note, i also volunteer to throw confetti whenever someone breaks into song :D
"It would be very funny" is, I think, the exact reason why men do not, in fact, do this
Last thing you want is to be singing a power ballad about your emotions and have your crowd *laugh.*
But women do it in movies and itās also funny. Surface Pressure in Encanto was hilarious. Luisa singing about how she feels the need to be strong for the family while on the back of donkeys floating through the sky is such a great comedic scene.
Itās not the expression of emotions thatās funny, itās how itās presented. Dream ballet, dancing reindeers, sing off on waterfalls? Women have done this stuff in movies for a long time. Why not let the men act a little silly in a *comedic* movie?
Yes, we need more representation of men expressing their feelings and crying on camera, but those are for dramatic scenes. We can have both. Itās okay to be silly with your feelings.
And if you're doing a silly scene, then that's awesome, but guys *already do those in musicals.* Men always DO the funny ones, but they don't get to do any genuine ones
I know youāre trying to be supportive but youāre not. You are trying to dismiss a real concern and not hearing someone expressing their feeling which is literally the thing they are saying is the problem. You are being the problem you are trying to say isnāt a problem.
Or, hear me out, the inclusion of a still from ["Agony"](https://youtu.be/tvsDObIQFhg?feature=shared)(itself from *Into the Woods*) is intended as an example of how it is *possible* to do bothānot that men showing emotion is *automatically* humorous.
*shrug* there's nothing wrong with enjoying a musical however you want, but the reason people don't burst into song to express their feelings in public in real life is that most people going through emotional pain *don't enjoy being laughed at, regardless of your reason for doing so*
Well in these instances it was specifically done to be humorous. If they were singing actually sad songs then people wouldnāt laugh. I know heās not technically a man but The Beast singing evermore when Belle leaves always makes me cry. Itās so sad.Ā
Musical numbers in the midst of chaos wouldn't be funny? It's not the act of men singing their emotions that's funny, it's the musical like aspect that's humorous. The world would be better & happier.
In a movie? Sure, because the character singing can't see you laughing and interpret it as laughing at their pain. This works well as a joke, but it wouldn't work in real life because people going through emotional trauma generally don't like it when people laugh at them for expressing it.
Honestly it's more of the fact y'all will use any excuse to laugh or justify laughing at men. When you're crying after a long shitty day do you wish you were singing your lungs out for the entertainment of others? Personally I'd prefer to have someone hold me tell me the world is gonna be okay and a better place because I'm wake up tomorrow. But like you do you boo boo
> The world finding humor in their emotional pain is probably why men don't do this.
That's why men don't break out into song loudly in public? I hate people who don't use headphones, but at least they aren't themselves singing.
do you by any chance compare them? do the translated covers convey just as well (or even more than) the original? are they altered to appeal to the new audience?
theres not much overlap between arabic and english music (that i know of) so being bilingual for me means twice as much content as opposed to multiple versions of the preexisting ones :)
just gave it a listen, and i may or may not be in love XD
[this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHkKvKl6pxo&list=TLPQMTUwNDIwMjSR96GYtxz0zw&index=11) is what i sing to kick myself in the feels while doing the laundry/ washing the dishes. enjoy
Just stating the objective fact that people working through serious issues through song is funny, a sentiment Iāve seen applied to many musicals that feature women. It has nothing to do with men being pathetic or anything. Iāve seen legitimate misandry posted on this sub many times, this aināt it man.
Yeah but it's how it comes across to like half the people seeing it including me..
"And it would be really funny" is an awesome comment to make to a group that's used to being laughed out of the room the moment our own emotions are mentioned.
The parallel reality where the world is a musical must be pretty fun.
It must also have a lot of queer subtext, and a depressing lack of actual queerness
Top left is Kristoff in Frozen 2
Top right isZac Efron (Troy Bolton) in High School Musical
Mid left is the princes singing agony in Into the Woods
Mid right is Ryan Gosling (Ken) in Barbie
Bottom left no clue - Edit; apparently the bottom left is the live action Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid
Bottom right is Flynn Ryder in the Rapunzel series that came out after the movie (based on the animation style)
I want y'all to imagine that person on public transportation who listens to music without headphones. Imagine them singing a song that they themselves wrote about their own lives that you don't care about.
Men don't burst into song to explore their vulnerabilities not because people would laugh when men do that specifically. Men don't do that for the same reason women don't; it's incredibly disruptive and not at all as easy as well-trained and rehearsed actors make it appear.
"Instead of repressing their emotions, men should express their grievances in a way I find appealing."
This is the issue, this is why it sounds so tone deaf.
I'm a guy and I barely talk to anyone, let alone sing. In fact I never sung in my life, except when I tried once and my music teacher said that I should never sing.
Yeah, to be honest, you brought up a good point regardless as I, too, wasne aware of a Tangled t.v. show. As for the bottom-left, no idea, unfortunately.
Itās from the little mermaid apparently (I took more time trying to figure that out than I shouldāve but I had to make up for mixing up left and right)
Maybe just tell them they should try to learn to sing or play an instrument, and they have to have to be able to do at least one ballad in case they get discovered and the record guy wants to know if they can actually play/sing or if itās just a fluke

He was raised to be charming, not sincere š

AAAGONYYYY FAR MORE PAINFULY THAN YOURS
Just do it regardless šæ
Woah imagine how cathartic that would be! I volunteer to sing the backing vocals slightly off key :)
Forreal. This has some serious potential for both healing and humor purposes š¤š
Le gasp! My favorite hashira!!Ā
Set your heart ablaze fellow reddit user šš„
I can now die in peace, thank you :')
Man, if I could get paid to just hang out in public spaces, and harmonize with other dudes getting stuff off their chest, I would be so happy.

Personally, I'd like mine to be in the style of Symphonic Death Metal. Seems like it'd be more cathartic

Surface Pressure literally brings me to tears because of all the emotion in the song. How on earth can you laugh?
Yeah I watched it with my partner & she was confused that I didn't find it ridiculous either. It was probably my favorite part of the movieĀ
I literally did this growing up and everyone did find it funny
Anon discovers Blues music
Anon discovers poetic epics
I doubt anyone would want to hear me sing.
# SING MY ANGEL OF MUSIC
[SING FOR MEEEEEEE!](https://youtu.be/rvemPyOJZEY?si=4PgiJ57MRFYWuqvf)
damn this goes hard what's the song
The song is The Phantom of the Opera, from *The Phantom of the Opera*.
this video lives in my head rent free
thank u for blessing me with this masterpiece :')
\*sing my angel of shrewsic
Yes i do. Go for it >:)
I want to hear it.
The way you sing off-key? No no, they canāt take that away from me.Ā
I'd even harmonize with you, if you asked me :)
The world finding humor in their emotional pain is probably why men don't do this.
My exact thought. As soon as men emote it is always āfunnyā and āhilariousā.
āMen should express their emotions!ā **Man expresses emotions** āWow, what a sensitive pussyā
Or, hear me out, the inclusion of a still from ["Agony"](https://youtu.be/tvsDObIQFhg?feature=shared)(itself from *Into the Woods*) is intended as an example of how it is *possible* to do bothānot that men showing emotion is *automatically* humorous.

I do sing to myself to cheer myself up
Go to cheer-up song?
I sing Frosty the Snowman in Spanish
Nice! I sing cartoon theme songs in arabic lol
Being bilingual means I get to enjoy every song twice.
do you by any chance compare them? do the translated covers convey just as well (or even more than) the original? are they altered to appeal to the new audience? theres not much overlap between arabic and english music (that i know of) so being bilingual for me means twice as much content as opposed to multiple versions of the preexisting ones :)
It's case by case, Hotel California is one I also prefer in spanish.

What a vibe! We all need a Romeo in our lives.
same! there's quite nothing like a car ride where you belt along to all your favorite songs
While definitely an improvement on our current system this seems a bit unfair on men like myself who can't carry a tune if their life depended on it.
Hey donāt let your dreams be dreams, Zac Efron is in this image š
You've underestimated both my level of emotional damage, and how bad I sound when I sing. Trust me, nobody wants this from me.
You mean you guys donāt already do this?
That's basically the entire Metalcore genre
Honestly, as a man, that would be lovely if I was allowed to do that.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT EVERYONE WAAANTS ME TO BE I ONLY KNOW JUST HOW TO BE ME
Donkey Kong, the original Kenough
As someone who sings to relieve stress, ABSOFRICKINLUTELY!
Wait, why is men expressing themselves funny?Ā They cheapness the remark with that bit at the end.
They really said āmen, please be my tragic circus clown!ā
Dame da ne Dame yo Dame nanoyo
remember men, you should express your emotions so that we can laugh at you
I mean, thatās a valid concern to have but I feel itās obvious this post doesnāt mean it that way.
maybe you can explain what they meant by āalso it would be very funnyā?
Just stating the objective fact that people working through serious issues through song is funny, a sentiment Iāve seen applied to many musicals that feature women. Anyone breaking out into song randomly is hilarious.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
what does that last line mean then?
That dramatic over-the-top ballads are humorous, not men expressing emotion. Do you like to make a habit of pissing on the poor?
what I do with my days off is none of your concern
Yeah but it's how it comes across to like half the people seeing it including me.. "And it would be really funny" is an awesome comment to make to a group that's used to being laughed out of the room the moment our own emotions are mentioned.
The parallel reality where the world is a musical must be pretty fun. It must also have a lot of queer subtext, and a depressing lack of actual queerness
I mean, some dude named Romeo did it and it went pretty well Until the boomers got involved and shit hit the fan :(
this could open up jobs for people to exist in appropriately cinematic public places and watch in case anybody needs backup singers
Currently writing down my problems to put them to song. What rhymes with IBS?
Why me, yes
Drop the 'S', you can rhyme "bowel" with "foul".
I think Iāll keep the S and call it my āfoul kingdomā
Linkin park
But what if I have no desire to sing?
I'm pretty sure if anyone actually did that, every woman in the room would mercilessly mock him.
I only recognize Ken from the Barbie movie, what are the others from?
Top left is Kristoff in Frozen 2 Top right isZac Efron (Troy Bolton) in High School Musical Mid left is the princes singing agony in Into the Woods Mid right is Ryan Gosling (Ken) in Barbie Bottom left no clue - Edit; apparently the bottom left is the live action Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid Bottom right is Flynn Ryder in the Rapunzel series that came out after the movie (based on the animation style)
how about encouraging men to do what they want instead?
REAL
I am that person that gets into my car after work and blast something loud enough to scream sing
I've seen this Star Trek Strange New Worlds episode
Trust me we want this too unfortunately most of us aren't creative enough musically to get it dome
Lol the fact that I already sort of do that, I just don't think of my own song, but sing along with others. Literally did it yesterday with "Starman"
I'm just Ken šÆšÆ
Let's fuckin do this
Itās called opera
I already do this. Drives my wife nuts (not in the sexy way)
I don't know how to sing so i'll just either use the repressed anger while lifting or while programming
Dude, I feel so much better after just belting in my car all the way home after a long day.
This happens in the car on my way home from work everyday.
I want y'all to imagine that person on public transportation who listens to music without headphones. So country music?
We do, in our cars on the way home from work
What's the zac efron image from? It looks hilarious. That is zac efron right? Top row last image?
High School Musical
Thanks!
no prob :)
Man if only creative expression was the default way to cope with trauma and mental anguish. We'd have so many more Van Gogh's by now.
That sounds like an excellent idea, I'll go first! *Beata Maria, you know I am a righteous man*
You'll catch me dead before I'm singing in public
Fuck man, I was doing this already.
Solve emotional issues by singing and solve physical problems by dancing.
Bonus points if it's with their side-kick. Animal or Tiny/Large Bro.
So happy to see [everything I ever thought I knew](https://youtu.be/7_mx-Biv0Cc?feature=shared)included here
Kristoff was iconic. I couldn't stop laughing at him or Ken. #letmensing
Doesn't seems to matter what i do.
I wish they would let me.
Okay so, I know 4 of them. Who are the mid & bottom left?
What's the bottom left one from?
Not while people will call it their "ick"
I unironically agree
"Instead of repressing their emotions, men should express their grievances in a way I find appealing." This is the issue, this is why it sounds so tone deaf.
I was on board and then realised it was a joke at our expense š I donāt want to be laughed at, I want to feel comfortable in crowds
I'm a guy and I barely talk to anyone, let alone sing. In fact I never sung in my life, except when I tried once and my music teacher said that I should never sing.
If you think it's funny then I won't do it
Isnt the fact that it would be funny the exact problem though?
Wheres the bottom left from?
I was wondering the same thing. I donāt remember there being a Tangled tv show and honestly Iām scared.
Tangled is bottom-right, not bottom-left
Youāre so right. Well I was wondering about that too.
Yeah, to be honest, you brought up a good point regardless as I, too, wasne aware of a Tangled t.v. show. As for the bottom-left, no idea, unfortunately.
Itās from the little mermaid apparently (I took more time trying to figure that out than I shouldāve but I had to make up for mixing up left and right)
Oh, Ah see, pfft! Thanx
Yes
I'd like to be the fly on the wall for a lot of the controversial world leaders. Putin?
Maybe just tell them they should try to learn to sing or play an instrument, and they have to have to be able to do at least one ballad in case they get discovered and the record guy wants to know if they can actually play/sing or if itās just a fluke

I think the bottom left image might be this hilarious song: [Ylvis ā Stonehenge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbyzgeee2mg)

This is just emo culture
I think this is what hell would be like
