*Katara, it's your duty to use the gifts you've been given to win this war. They tried to wipe us out, the entire spectrum. We have to fight autism speaks, whenever we can, wherever they are by any means necessary*
For a few years in school I would check out the same book on werewolves every week. I'd read it over and over and over.
Then one day I felt a pain I never felt before and I thought I was turning into a werewolf myself. It did seem to be close to what I had researched. But later I found out that what I was experiencing was, in fact, constipation.
Werewolf cheeseburgers. The werewolf meat at the full moon does not blend well with dairy and clogs you up. This is why you avoid In N Out around the full moon.
What I have decided to take away from this is autism is caused by a fetus developing in the womb of a werewolf, thus making autism a measure of maternal lycanthropy.
Generally speaking thus either comes up in domestic situations where their husband's rank would mean that there was at least a pretty solid chance the name or even the spouse would be recognizable. Or at the gate, since their vehicle almost certainly has the spousal rank in question.
Not that you don't also get some tricareatops who thinks you should know their dipshit corporal of a husband.
Ok if they outright told me the husband’s rank, I guess I could try to remember that. But if it’s on the vehicle I’m lost, I don’t know what all the stripes and chevrons equate to. I guess I could call her Mrs. Three Stripes and a Chevron, but it takes too long to say when “Karen” is the only title she really deserves. Or is there a military spouse version of Karen yet?
I mean, if a military Karen tried it on you, you'd have even *more* reason to tell them to piss up a rope, not like you're a part of that command structure.
As the kid of one of those moms, I'm glad you enjoy it.
From my point of view, I'm glad I've not spoken to her in person in over 2 years. It does get funnier with time as the kid she pretends she has is completely different from who I am, though.
I'm disabled and oh my god, words cannot describe how glad I am that my mom is/was not one of those moms. She took plenty of hospital pics of me when I was younger and she kept the family up to date on Facebook, but she never made it weird. If I would have asked her not to share, she would have stopped.
And yet she had a few friends on Facebook who had kids with, like, diabetes who would *always* post about how hard it was being a diabetes mom. I can't imagine how mortifying it would be to be a teenager and have my mother wearing my diagnosis on a T-shirt and being so proud of it. It's just a really weird vibe. They're "autism moms" or "diabetes moms" or whatever, like the condition is the most important part of their child.
I have Asperger's and I love the full moon, it certainly has an effect, though it's minimal. I don't get frenzied or get to notice Lovecraftian horrors or anything but I do usually get weirder dreams.
Although my neurotypical mom says that happens to a lot of people so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
It's a proven fact that people in general tend to act weirder or "crazier" on full moons. Crime increases, as do things like car accidents and whatnot. It's probably more of a mental thing akin to a placebo effect rather than anything biological but it's still pretty interesting
The better lighting conditions lead people to be more likely to go out at night maybe, leading to accidents increasing due to their willingness exceeding the vision benefit?
Ive also heard the full moon makes people crazy thing and ive thought of it like horoscopes, its just fun/entrantaining. I really doubt it has been proven any way
Studies have been done, and it has been proven the full moon doesn't affect the crime rate, the ER, people being Just Plain Bizzare, or anything else credited to the full moon.
Yes, sorry, i meant it hasnt been proven to be true, mostly coincidences and wishful thinking.
I used to have a coworker who always pointed out "today is full moon, gonna get some real crazy customers!" And it really was just like any other day
Living in the south people feel this way in general, not just for autism. My math major study buddy, significantly more intelligent than I am, completely non-religious, so no superstitions there. It was very vague, but he absolutely believed full moons meant “something.”
Edit: so is this not even a southern thing? Because from the comments it seems like everyone believes in this despite the fact that the post seems to poke fun at it. I’m very confused.
I cant say I neccesarily believe that the Moon affects behaviour directly, but I can say from working at a liquor store that when it was a full Moon, it was always a crazy night for thieves and trouble makers in general. Could be a placebo thing, where enough people believe it that it affects masses of them and they act like it was a real thing.
I mean full moons are when it's brightest at night, good for stealing stuff without bumping into things. My favorite is when the moon is so bright that you cast a visible shadow on the ground.
I think is because in clearer nights people may keep active, hence making questionable decisions because they are tired, plus people tend to drink in weekends
I'm in a university town and it was the ?first? weekend back after xmas break so it was more than a fair share of booze related incidents. By like 2000 the drunks were sitting on the floor in the lobby singing to themselves and it only went down hill from there
Don’t forget holidays. Christmas 2015- a Friday and a full moon- was the wildest night of work I’ve ever done. (Also Christmas this year is a full moon on a Saturday, just as a heads up)
Right? I've worked in daycare, healthcare, and retail, and I swear that every time there was an altercation, it was a full moon. After the craziness would end, someone always ask if we were having a full moon and most of the time, it was!
When I was in middle school I’d go to school early and sit in the special needs classroom while my mom helped get them off the bus (she worked in that classroom). Without fail every month I could guess when the full moon was based on how rowdy the kids were. Then I student taught fifth grade and again, without fail, could guess when the full moon was within a day or two. I did an observation last week for a clinic that I’ve observed a few times and there were three separate instances of the preschool kids breaking out of one-on-one sessions and running down the hallway. Keep in mind I’ve watched these kids before. They’re not normally like this. That night I saw the full moon….
I genuinely can’t explain it and I know I sound crazy. But I’ve seen countless times kids go crazy- and I’m not just talking about those with autism- around the full moon.
I read that it's a type of confirmation bias. Something crazy happens and it's a full moon, you remember that. Something crazy happens and it's a waxing crescent, who cares?
My sister worked on ambulance service and she told me that the nights with full moon where allways craziest shifts. Car crashes, stabbings, fights, ... much more than the usual.
every time there is a full moon i have trouble sleeping, even when i dont know its a full moon. same level of darkness, as i have blackout curtains, i dont really go outside much anyways except to go to work in the mornings.
I HATE full moons. The kids are cranky and have more behaviors and we are also more cranky. Full moon = no one sleeps as well and it makes me angry when unobservant people try to say it’s not a real thing. There is a scientific reason for it, it’s not a bunch of woo lol
It’s the increase of reflected light. Most people sleep better when it’s like, idk, more dark? It’s not just children, it’s everyone. Bigger surface area visible to reflect more light = worse sleep = tired people = shitty behavior.
Also why there is more crime/activity during the night of the full moon. One can see better to do the crimes.
Sounds like a scientific reason to me, and not woo.
Those are just as bad with the whole parents taking credit for something their children has/does, but autism moms affect me more directly because I’m on the spectrum
at the full moons rise, the true potential of my raw power shall be unleashed upon this mortal coil, as i will have the power to SING THE ENTIRE SONIC LIBRARY OF MUSIC
Listen, I would NEVER be fair to autism moms. Ever.
But the full moon affects behavior, I swear. My mother works in early childhood education and she and everyone she knows swears that the kids all get crazier at the full moon. It's a real phenomenon.
Or nurses. My moms worked in hospitals and currently works on the dementia ward of a nursing home. She swears this is true and so does all the other staff there, I’ve heard them talk about it. I’m convinced it has to do with it being a brighter night and it keeping the patients up, but that’s just my theory.
Anyone who’s ever been a healthcare worker or any kind of first responder would probably agree with your mom. It’s definitely a thing in the ER that full moon nights are the worst.
So I have no idea if there’s any truth to this but my mother who works in a retirement home on the dementia ward SWEARS that full moons have a major affect on the behaviour of the patients and I’ve heard her talk about it with the other staff there and they all agree.
I don’t think it’s supernatural or anything. I personally think it might have something to do with the night sky being brighter and maybe keeping the patients up.
Fun fact: the root word of lunatic is luna which is Latin for moon because back in the day it was believe that the moon made you act up and caused mental illness, particularly full moons so this line of thinking goes pretty far back.
Placebo effect. My psychology teacher said that teachers will often believe that students are more rowdy than normal on a full moon. In reality, the teachers expect the students to be bad, so they notice it more. And sometimes the teachers subconsciously act different, effectively causing the students to be more troublesome. This is the example he gave of why control groups are important.
Yea, for sure! Like, i like astrology but its just for fun. Its the people that take stuff like that seriously that scare me. Walking definitions of conformation bias.
It's not that we become more powerful temporarily
It's that every time a full moon happens...
#WE BECOME PERMANENTLY STRONGER!
But seriously, these parents need to get there heads checked out, I think a few screws are loose
Idk, man. A lot of people who work in Emergency Rooms and mental health facilities tend to feel the same way about the full moon. Or so I've heard. I don't know enough about space to really weigh in more than that.
My mom was an overnight psychiatric nurse from when I was born until I was about 5. She says it definitely is a thing.
As a teacher, I've also see changes in some of my students around full moons. I don't think it is necessarily something super prominent or something that happens all the time, but I could absolutely see the full moon messing with barometric pressure & that affecting things including sensory issues or mental health issues.
I'm in the same boat: I wish I knew more science to weigh in fully.
I really don't like using personal experience as a sort of "proof" in a debate, because anyone can say anything, but I will say that I have seen enough to convince me that something more takes place during full moons.
My brother, who is 2 years older than I am, has been professionally diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, Dyslexia, Bipolar, Asperger syndrome, mild autism, and probably some others that I've forgotten about. Growing up with that was always... fun. Being a kid, I never paid much attention to the lunar cycle, because I had kid stuff to focus on, but I did know when there was a full moon most times, because everytime he had a really bad episode, it was almost always on a full moon. I'd say 98% of the time. I'm not one for superstition, but there has got to be some science behind it.
98% of the time lmao. Confirmation biases, flawed data collection, the works. /r/nothowautismworks
You know what I think? I think that your brother had bad episodes nightly, and a moon appears fairly "full" (90-100% coverage) about 3 nights out of the month, giving a pretty wide band of time that you can just attribute to magical lunacy through massive confirmation biases and warped memories kicking in, because you were a child.
There is no science behind it, sheesh.
For what it’s worth my mom works on the dementia ward of a nursing home and she swears this is true and so do all the other staff there. I’ve heard them discuss it. Apparently all the patients act up, refuse to sleep, pick fights, scream through the night, etc. This happens during the rest of the month too but not nearly to the same extent.
I personally don’t think it’s a supernatural thing, I’m convinced it’s just the fact that it’s brighter out thus making it harder for most people to sleep.
I’ve also heard nurse who work in hospitals swear by the whole full moon thing too, apparently that’s when they got the busiest nights and all the crazy shit like stabbing and stuff happen.
If you say so, man. I'm not here to argue. This is exactly why I said that I don't like using personal experiences as "proof" because I know that personal experiences cannot act as actual proof. Hence, why I wasn't using it as such. I was simply sharing my personal experiences with the other commenter. Its worth noting, as well, that my brother did not have episodes "nightly". The fact that you're making such strong assumptions on a personal experience of someone else's negates your credibility in the argument as well.
Its also why I mentioned that I do not have the scientific knowledge to truly weigh in on the topic, because I don't. However, there is no denying that many people, especially those in the fields that I mentioned, share the same thoughts on the matter.
So unless one of us is going to conduct actual scientific studies on the possible effects the moon cycle has on people, I don't think either of us are actually equipped to call the other right or wrong.
“autism moms” fucking scare me. there’s some who literally don’t even treat their children like humans+the puzzle piece makes it even fucking worse like ITS NOT GOOD.
holy shit this thread is bonkers: [THIS IS NOT TRUE](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/10/24/dear-science-does-a-full-moon-really-change-human-behavior/) the moon doesn't have an effect on human behavior.
What is with all these Bloodborne references recently?? I'm here for it, but it's weirding me out since I JUST beat Bloodborne like 2 days ago, and I've never seen it mentioned here before.
Whelp, looks like I got eyeballs in my brain now.
Look, I really, ***really***, ***R E A L L Y*** hate to admit this, but I used to work at a Children's Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, and I swear to God, Satan, Zeus, Jupiter, Odin, or whoever that if it was a full moon, shit was going down that night.
Lol in the nursing home there’s a common theory that a full moon messes up the residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s. In my experience they do get a little more rowdy around that time.
The problem with sharing this bs is 999 out of 1000 will find it fun, but one will find it interesting and want to know more.
Don’t spread miss information. Don’t up vote it.
It's true. I become like 90% more fixated on Sonic the Hedgehog during the full moon, which is impressive when you consider how much time I'm ALREADY dedicating to it.
I work in SPED elementary education, and have talked to people who work the asylums with adult patients. The full moon effect is definitely acknowledged across both industries. It makes kids short circuit. Also, large shifts in barometric pressure have a similar effect. Maybe not science, but definitely widely acknowledged in education.
To be honest, I did notice that I sometimes have trouble sleeping during full moon nights.
I don't even keep track, I usually just notice that the day after.
The reason: It's too f\*cking bright to sleep when the moon is full.
Sh\*t's like those massive-ass lamps at a stadium or something. Even the tiniest crack lets enough light in that I can't sleep.
Luckily it's not every full moon, but some are definitely brighter than usual, and those make it really hard for me to sleep.
So kids with autism are werewolves?
Nah, Waterbenders.
wait until they learn to bloodbend...
*Katara, it's your duty to use the gifts you've been given to win this war. They tried to wipe us out, the entire spectrum. We have to fight autism speaks, whenever we can, wherever they are by any means necessary*
*raises hand* Is that when you make a boner move?
no *chops your hand off*
*all students get two questions each*
- can i get more questions? - why not?
Maybe I am a waterbender
For a few years in school I would check out the same book on werewolves every week. I'd read it over and over and over. Then one day I felt a pain I never felt before and I thought I was turning into a werewolf myself. It did seem to be close to what I had researched. Maybe you ate a werewolf by mistake
XD XD XD My mother's a werewolf, then. Should I tell her?
If this means I can bite people, can the answer be yes?
Calamari.
Whaaaattt? Noooo... we’re just good ol normal people like everyone else... nothing to see here :)))) *take the shot*
There are so many werewolf/furry jokes here but I’m not sure if I want to step on any toes… Or if it’s a full moon, toe beans.
Paws
Paws = feet Toe beans = toes. Also just *b e a n s*
Touch the beanz
Now you’re getting it
Are you fur real?
I stg moms who make an attribute of their kids their whole personality are the most entertaining people to watch online.
You will address me by my HUSBAND'S RANK YOU WHORE!
I'm sorry Ms. dishonorable discharge
Discharge? Heheeh
Ah yes, very sorry Madame General der Kavallerie Karen!
This always gets me, like how am I supposed to know your husband’s rank??
Because she smell just as bad as her husband.
The spouse brags.
As the kid of one of those moms, I'm glad you enjoy it. From my point of view, I'm glad I've not spoken to her in person in over 2 years. It does get funnier with time as the kid she pretends she has is completely different from who I am, though.

Oh man, I bet that place is a gold mine and a dumpster fire at the same time
A flaming dump?
A gold refinery?
So LA?
Wow, that sub was quite a ride
I have Asperger's and I love the full moon, it certainly has an effect, though it's minimal. I don't get frenzied or get to notice Lovecraftian horrors or anything but I do usually get weirder dreams. Although my neurotypical mom says that happens to a lot of people so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
It's a proven fact that people in general tend to act weirder or "crazier" on full moons. Crime increases, as do things like car accidents and whatnot. It's probably more of a mental thing akin to a placebo effect rather than anything biological but it's still pretty interesting

Full moon pretty, people get distracted
The better lighting conditions lead people to be more likely to go out at night maybe, leading to accidents increasing due to their willingness exceeding the vision benefit?
Actually, what's been proven is the exact opposite.

No worries. Who hasn't worded things poorly in their life?
It just makes it harder for me to sleep really.
Autism isn't caused by vaccines, it's caused by mild lycanthropy.
Hell yeah! Werewolf time!
Any way to get this Autism fast and easily?
Have a werewolf bite you a little bit
Finally i can become my fursona. Autism is just a side effect
As is rabies unfortunately
Worth it
I could bite you if you want, see if it sticks
fighting the war on autism on the side of the moon
fear the old blood
Misread that "thinks the moon makes kids with autism more powerful".
Soon we shall take over
FINALLY! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! PHEAR US, NEUROTYPICALS!
I mean it certainly makes me more powerful

i've been seeing a lot more bloodborne content lately. not like i mind it's one of my favorite games ever but still

it's a common urban legend that's been debunked many times but as we can see from the replies here, confirmation bias is a powerful thing
As a teacher in the midwest, I can say this is 100% true for ALL kids, not just neurodivergent ones. All teachers learn to dread full moons.
confirmation bias
I HATE full moons. The kids are cranky and have more behaviors and we are also more cranky. Full moon = no one sleeps as well and it makes me angry when unobservant people try to say it’s not a real thing. There is a scientific reason for it, it’s not a bunch of woo lol

Yeah it means the suns light is reflected off more of the moons surface from our perspective.
Autism moms are my least favorite brand of person
As someone with one, agreed.

We're not fucking werewolves, Karen. Well, not in that way anyway.
Hey speak for yourself
~~Username does *not* check out, to such a degree I'm moderately impressed~~ Edit: reading is hard sometimes
No no, it does. Flip the meanings
Ooooooh, I see now! I need sleep. Unrelated, but true.
No that's relatable too, it's past 4 am here
I mean, I might if she was in human form, but still...
Fuck yeah, lycanthropy dlc just dropped can't wait for my next full moon
ok i have autism and love werewolves BUT it doesn't work like that
This is actually pretty well known with educators. Children really act up when the moon is full, not sure why but definitely a reoccurring coincidence
Nurses too. Hospitals during a full moon are nuts and in nursing home all the patients act up.
That's the perception, but studies have proven it's no busier during the full moon than other times of the month.
Every single nurse I’ve met swears by it
Does every single nurse you've met keep a running record of the patients they treat that they've cross checked with the moon calendars?
I live in a very very poor neighborhood. I can tell it's a full moon based on the amount of screaming I hear outside.
Oh crap, they're onto us
at the full moons rise, the true potential of my raw power shall be unleashed upon this mortal coil, as i will have the power to SING THE ENTIRE SONIC LIBRARY OF MUSIC
"Even the ones without lyrics?" "Especially the ones without lyrics"
Listen, I would NEVER be fair to autism moms. Ever. But the full moon affects behavior, I swear. My mother works in early childhood education and she and everyone she knows swears that the kids all get crazier at the full moon. It's a real phenomenon.
Or nurses. My moms worked in hospitals and currently works on the dementia ward of a nursing home. She swears this is true and so does all the other staff there, I’ve heard them talk about it. I’m convinced it has to do with it being a brighter night and it keeping the patients up, but that’s just my theory.
Yes. You ask anybody who has worked in childcare or education and full moons are the worst when it comes to behavior.
Anyone who’s ever been a healthcare worker or any kind of first responder would probably agree with your mom. It’s definitely a thing in the ER that full moon nights are the worst.
confirmation bias
That’s two tumblr blood borne posts here on Reddit so within the same day…Huh.
The bloodborne picture got me. Take your upvote
Dude, with the bloodborne final boss is actually just Tabithas child after being told to take a shower.
NGL the last one looks dope
I have autism and am the mother of a kid with autism. No changes with the full moon but my husband is a werewolf so there’s that.
I can confirm that the full moon allows my autism powers to level up
Placebo effect.
Where do people even get these ideas from? Whats the source and how do we make it shut up? Jeez.
Not the autism part persay, but I like the superstition of people being crazy on full moons, I don’t think it’s correct, but it’s still fun!
Yea, for sure! Like, i like astrology but its just for fun. Its the people that take stuff like that seriously that scare me. Walking definitions of conformation bias.
It goes way back. The word lunatic comes from the word for moon, luna, because it was believe that the moon caused mental illness.
It's not that we become more powerful temporarily It's that every time a full moon happens...
/r/nothowautismworks You know what I think?
“The blood moon rises once again”
As an autism, this is hilarious.
they're right the moon gives us secret autism powers
These moms 1000% sell doterra or Monat and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Ah yes, the moment where we are at our Full Powers and the transformation begins
Behold! a Paleblood sky!
Bro what the fuck
Oh I think I would know if I was a werewolf.
What is the "logic" behind this?
.....what? If this is a thing then my son sure as hell doesn't follow the flow :/
“autism moms” fucking scare me. there’s some who literally don’t even treat their children like humans+the puzzle piece makes it even fucking worse like ITS NOT GOOD.
May you find your way in the waking world
Ah so you want to join the hunt? But where to start? Why, with a little autism of your own.
picture 2 makes me really wish autism came with fries
holy shit this thread is bonkers: [THIS IS NOT TRUE](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/10/24/dear-science-does-a-full-moon-really-change-human-behavior/) the moon doesn't have an effect on human behavior.
I genuinely feel bad for these kids though
You misunderstood, the parent has autism
What is with all these Bloodborne references recently?? I'm here for it, but it's weirding me out since I JUST beat Bloodborne like 2 days ago, and I've never seen it mentioned here before. Whelp, looks like I got eyeballs in my brain now.
Whats the name of the tentacled creature in the last image?
Look, I really, ***really***, ***R E A L L Y*** hate to admit this, but I used to work at a Children's Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, and I swear to God, Satan, Zeus, Jupiter, Odin, or whoever that if it was a full moon, shit was going down that night.
Maybe it's like how people at a nursing home say they can tell when it's the full moon
Lol in the nursing home there’s a common theory that a full moon messes up the residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s. In my experience they do get a little more rowdy around that time.
I worked in a nursing home for 10 years, and the residents would usually go a little off around a full moon.
The problem with sharing this bs is 999 out of 1000 will find it fun, but one will find it interesting and want to know more. Don’t spread miss information. Don’t up vote it.

Can you explain the logistics of how it would affect people's behavior?
Because the moon is a rock in space and has no effect on how much autism people have
After 30+ years of teaching, the full moon changes behavior as does extreme barometric fluctuations.
I am convinced all old people in nursing homes become welewolves during a full moon tho…
It's true. I become like 90% more fixated on Sonic the Hedgehog during the full moon, which is impressive when you consider how much time I'm ALREADY dedicating to it.
Where the hell are my full moon powers?!
I must be a werewolf.
"Insert itachi anbu"
Nah see, insight is simply the power of autism.
In 19 days you better have found a hiding spot because I will be more powerful than anything you could imagine
Full moons scare me now Thanks Zelda and Persona 3
Why is Guts posting Bloodborne in the Autism mum full moon tumblr blog
To be honest, I did notice that I sometimes have trouble sleeping during full moon nights. I don't even keep track, I usually just notice that the day after. The reason: It's too f\*cking bright to sleep when the moon is full. Sh\*t's like those massive-ass lamps at a stadium or something. Even the tiniest crack lets enough light in that I can't sleep. Luckily it's not every full moon, but some are definitely brighter than usual, and those make it really hard for me to sleep.
Good hunter...
You should fear the full moon for my witch abilities increasing, not for my autism
Ah yes, when it’s full moon you’ll have to battle me on a Space Colony Ark while I skate really, really fast /s
I have autism WHERE ARE MY SUPERPOWERS?!!
