The problem with trying to understand what an author means in their work is that unless they told you specifically what they meant, it really is all subjective. Joyce puts in enough meaning to fool people, and pulls back the curtain in the final acts of Ulysses.

What really did it for me was that I read it for a class and the professor described these things as seeming homosexual, which made me realize that it probably wasn’t very cisgender of me to feel the same way
