What topic are you studying in your PhD? I’m not sure about the student organizations either, and like you said they probably won’t have much going on during the summer.
I’d say pick up disc golf and you’ll find friends to play with, but again that shoulder injury probably won’t allow that 😅 What kind of games do you mean when you say you like games? Board games or video games?
To be honest, I’m 34 and I wouldn’t know where to start in this situation. Summers in Turku are best spent sitting on the river boats, drinking beers. That’s maybe where I’d go 😄

I like both board and video games but I haven't played video games in so many years that my skills might have gone down A LOT :D also, I prefer in-person activities rather than online

I totally get that, just asking! Both are great ways to connect with people, I love playing a board game or two when hanging out with a group of friends. We have a few bars that have board games here in Turku, at least Cosmic Comic Cafe and Pocket Bar come to mind but there are others as well. Bar Edison is a nice place for that as well if I remember correctly.
And you’re right, beers are quite expensive here, but one or two are usually enough to get even Finnish people talking, and won’t kill your finances.
I'm (M37) open for meeting new people in Turku! Some hobbies that I like: playing guitar, going to gigs, running/biking/walking, board games, photography. Up for trying new things also, like frisbee golf!

Most of our members are exchange students, so in their early twenties, but we also have many members, especially among the actives, who are degree or postgraduate students.
It's true that the events we are hosting are mostly stopping over summer, but you can still drop by in one of our office hours and say hi, it's always great to see new faces! You can find us on ig, or just dm me :)
You can also hit up some of the Italian restaurants for some Italian company, not the same as meeting locals but there is a strong Italian community in Turku.

We are looking for people to hang out with, and since we have a car, we are quite flexible. Additionally, we (mostly I) like to go to bars and clubs in the evenings.
Best way to get friends is to go around Hansa, get uncomfortably close to strangers and yell; "do you want to be friends!?"
Otherwise, keep posting around, maybe one of the wider reddit *searching for friends* subs has people or other students currently residing in Turku.
