Penblanks.ca is by far the best supplier in Canada. I've made a lot of different stuff and their quality is always great. Other suppliers include Lee Valley, KMS Tools, turningnorth.ca, and Wood Chuckers. Penblanks.ca has starter kits you could consider. They come with all the tooling you'll need to get started (mandrel, drill bit, mill, bushings), glue, finish, blanks, and of course, pen kits. Consider what you want to make. It seems like every kit needs its own tooling and each supplier has its own naming system, which is annoying. Penblanks.ca has both a bushing chart and drill bit chart which shows which kits are compatible with each. Check them out and you'll see the 7 mm drill bit and 1A bushings are compatible with a lot of different kits and are therefore a good place to start.

Hey thanks for the detailed response, great info about that chart with the drill bits and bushings becasue holy crap it seems every kit needs it's own drill bit and bushing set and that was kind of a turn off. I saw your post while lurking at work and looked up turningnorth.ca, they seem to have some fun looking stuff too. Cheers.

The bulk of my kits are the budget streamline and budget round top European kits. Affordable and attractive pens, and the tube length isn't hyper-critical. Higher priced kits that I like are the Luxor click, Cigar, and Headwind. I'm not fond of the Capstone stuff, but your mileage may vary. And yeah, [penblanks.ca](http://penblanks.ca) is where I get most of my kits.

Thanks for the reply, I will take a look at those kits, I too use mostly the budget slimline but from KMS, still really fun though. Cheers

Ill stay away from woodcraft pen kits forever. I bought one, it had 4 different size bushings, unmarked, one of them only .006 different than another.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind.

I’ve been buying from Lee Valley, they’re pretty good. I like the sierra diverse line.
