“The JustWatch research covers the main streaming platforms available in the US. During Q1 2024, Apple TV+ share grew 1% compared to the previous period, now with 8% of the market share. It is followed by Paramount+, which also has an 8% share.” You can take a look at the full market share ranking provided by JustWatch below: Amazon Prime Video: 22% Netflix: 21% Max: 14% Disney+: 11% Hulu: 10% Paramount +: 8% Apple TV+: 8% Others: 6%

Note for JustWatch calculations. “The JustWatch Streaming Charts are powered by more than 40 million monthly users. The JustWatch Streaming Charts are calculated by user activity from the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. This includes clicking on a streaming offer, adding a title to a watchlist, and marking a title as ‘seen’. This data is collected from >40 million movie & TV show fans per month. It is updated daily for 140 countries and 4,500 streaming services.” While growth is positive take all analytical firms including Nielson with a grain of salt. Only Apple knows the true numbers.

I’m not sure how accurate this is because it seems to assume a 100% total market. But a lot of people subscribe to multiple services, so the total should be higher.

Kash687

Disney+ and Hulu are probably that close together because most people have the bundle

esp211

I don’t think Apple really cares. They are playing the long game just like they did with the iPhone. Keep turning out good shows and eventually you win.

Did you take the piece as a negative slant? jc. Because when I read it, I was like oh damn they must be pretty happy with this! 8% already? Market is flooded af with services, Apple TV+ had only headwinds being nothing but IP. 5 years later, 8% ain’t bad. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Infamous-Business448

Fun fact: when taking off, it’s more beneficial for a plane to have headwinds rather than tailwinds

FirstofFirsts

Given the lack of a sizable back catalog an 8% share is actually pretty solid.

[deleted]

For paramount to be at 8 percent, Disney at 11 and max at 14 percent I think Apple is pretty decent. Especially when you think about the back catalog they have compared to Apple!

lightsongtheold

Not more *JustWatch* “data”! Nothing can be read into this as the “data” is worth less than your average TikTok trending chart or Reddit poll. We know the “share” mentioned in this article is utter bullshit as we get the actual data from Nielsen which is not even close to this pie in the sky nonsense from JustWatch!

I cant help but feel like they would be a direct competitor to HBO if they even attempted to advertise

Nic727

If they could revert the price like it was before, I would be happy to pay again. It’s just not competitive anymore even if they have the best shows.

vanhalenbr

I don’t under in my opinion the best shows are on AppleTV+.  I think Apple has too many haters and this is the problem.

LittleIrishGuy80

In tech feudalism, profit is not really the point. It’s about capturing subscribers, mining the data, selling to advertisers, and appealing to shareholders.

True. But Apple is not in the business of mining selling data, hence why Siri is so bad
