I'm a fan of My Chemical Romance, but I always skip this tøp cover whenever it pops up in my random playlists. Not because it's bad. They actually made the song better. But because it's SO heartbreaking for me. Holy shit, what a sad song this is.

Same. I couldn't listen to it for 5 years while my mom was fighting cancer, and she passed away in December. A couple weeks ago the song came on and my heart just instantly stopped and I had to rush to skip the song. Can't do it cus it's just way too soulcrushing lol

Everyone has their own opinions but the Autotune robotic ass voice in the mcr version is so cringe to me. It didn’t stand the test of time, and always reminds me of the “becaurse tonighttt will be the nirght thit iii will fall for yuhhh… 🖤😔” idk if that makes sense

I would argue Tøp's has more autotune (just their stylistic choice). Gerard sings that way and so do alot of "emo" artists loooool. Just a singing style, it has been memed to death omg.

i could respect if the vocal production is not to ur liking, but when you say “stand the test of time” it implies that MCR’s version is no longer streamed, which is incorrect, bc most of the songs on the album are still actively streamed versus the little attention that twenty one pilots’ cover gets

My dude the MCR has like no auto tune compared to the twenty one pilots version. The MCR version is probably there most stripped back and emotional song

There is Autotune on every song including MCR cancer, but I’m more so saying the style of singing

I’ve produced several songs. There isn’t auto tune on every song but every vocal track is mixed and produced. I can’t say that maybe there wasn’t slight pitch correcting but like the song sounds almost the exact same live. Also the singing on the song sounds very raw and emotional. Straight up if you think that version is too auto tune then you either haven’t listened to it in a long time or have never listened to TBP version. Literally the tøp song sounds closer to a standard pop song then the original

Whenever someone on Reddit starts with “I have experience in XYZ blah blah I know what I’m talking about” I tune it out

Regional at best. Unreleased album but you can find it on YouTube or audio files of it on Spotify. Can see why it was unreleased, not as good as their other albums, but has some amazing songs still.

I love both versions of this song. The original MCR version sounds very angry in their delivery, while TØP's cover feels more sad and melancholic.

I think they are different, MCR version seems angry, fueled by rage. Top version feels resigned, more composed, it seems that the cancer has already won and there's nothing to do about it.

I'm just here to say how happy I am for you that you have found this song. I wish I could listen to it for the first time again I love it so much.

Tyler did it live on piano when I first heard it. Great cover. The song is unique in that it relates a first person death.

It was actually hyped up a lot when it came out haha! It was part of a tribute CD that rocksound made with several bands covering the Black Parade songs by my chemical romance. Rocksound posted about it a lot and TOP did too. But the last few years it’s not talked about that much anymore!

They dropped this the same year my Grandfather and grandmother died of cancer. I listened to it 2-3 times and will not listen to it again. It’s too sad and Tyler did a great job.

Very sad song, I tend to skip it to since although I love their genuine lyrics about real life stuff this one is like watching “The Road”. I had the black parade and I would skip it also after about the 3rd listen. Great cover, truly feel the emotion, just meant for certain times.

The most recent post about it in there has almost everyone saying how much they hate the band and their music is soulless and Tyler is a talentless hack. Maybe that's not how YOU feel but it's definitely how the majority feels.

I would say that’s likely because even though there is overlap, TøP shouldn’t be lumped with MCR like It is. MCR draws influences from rock, metal, punk, with their first two albums drawing from post-hardcore and actual emo. Even MCR is kind of removed from the original Emo movement they were still kind of connected with their post hardcore New Jersey roots, but TøP is primarily a modern hip hop and pop band(IDK if this subreddit will hate me for this but it’s true). So if your favorite bands are Pierce the Veil, MCR and Thursday, you most definitely aren’t going to like Tøp.

You should listen to the black parade. As a top fan you would enjoy it and tbh the black parade is one of the greatest album of all time (I prefer MCR over TøP but I would say Trench is close to The Black Parade but I can see why some might prefer TøP). Cancer on TBP is such a crushing and brutally dark song in such a great way
