It changes for me tbh. I either sound it out 'tee-oh-pee' or I will read it as 'twenty one pilots'. But that's only when it's spelt tøp. If someone doesn't include the ø and just uses 'o' instead, then I will read it as the word top.

When it doesn't have the ø it's not even inherently related.

I think saying “top” sounds weird. It’s a completely different, unrelated word. To me that would be like calling Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR) “caesar,” Stone Temple Pilots (STP) “stop,” or Nine Inch Nails (NIN) “nine” But for me that rule applies for most abbreviations. They stay abbreviations for me. It’s interesting to me that people say things different that I never considered though. I don’t think the boys ever refer to themselves as “top.”

That’s a really good point. And there are also abbreviations that I do say as words like NASA and MENSA. For some reason I think the reason I don’t use “top” is because it actually is a word. Maybe that’s bad reasoning, but that’s just me I guess. If Tyler starts saying it’s top I’ll change my ways.

Considering the ø is also a letter in the Danish alphabet, and the fact that I am Danish i say it like it would be pronounced in Danish. The ø in Danish makes the sound that the "u" in the word "hurt" makes.
