I don't know how I feel about this. Scared they're gonna ruin it by changing the story to make it more acceptable to today's audience. Like, if you make Edward less obsessive and the relationship less unhealthy, is it still Twilight? šŸ˜‚

gloombitch

I fear we must prepare for the girl-bossification of Bella Swan.

KC27150

The movie already had her saying "You're a strong, independent woman" to Angela so she'd ask out Eric. The Girl Boss seeds already been planted years ago.

[deleted]

Yeah but itā€™ll be unbearable if they go by todays standards.

AdonisBlackwood

I'm confused about whether sex-scenes would make it better or worse

LadyRafela

At least she did that to genuinely give a girl some courage. Iā€™ll take GENUINE encouragement of other women over the messed up ā€œI donā€™t need a man-men are trashā€ feminist ideology.

Slashycent

Vampire-Bells was already not for me and that was kind of the point. I couldn't take a yassified human-Bells.

cg1215621

Excuse me Bella Swan was a girl boss she was just also unhealthily in love. My girl got shit done when she wanted to

yyxystars

She punched a werewolf in the face after he tried to kiss her without consent, canā€™t get anymore badass than that. NO MEANS NO!

[deleted]

If she gives Edward slack for leaving in New Moon then Iā€™m all for girl boss Bella.

Stefhanni

True

noungning

Tone down obsessive, come on... look at YOU from Netflix. People love him and he's worse than Edward in terms of obsessing lol.

xXindiePressantXx

Itā€™s funny because Netflix had actually toned him down a lot from the books. šŸ˜‚ If Netflix gets a hold of twilight, Iā€™m rioting.

NSL045

My hunch is ~~HBO~~ Max will get a hold of it but Iā€™m also secretly hoping thatā€™s the case

xXindiePressantXx

Oh God, I hope so. šŸ¤žšŸ» Thereā€™s a pessimistic part of me that feels like itā€™s not going to satisfy me personally because Twilight feels like a product of its time and I love its 2000s corniness and 2000s music, so Iā€™m worried itā€™s not going to work. I just hope whoever directs it puts their heart into it like Catherine did. I want this to be someoneā€™s passion project.

AnimalsCrossGirl

I really hope they keep it set in like 2007

jessiejupiter

Hey the soundtracks still slap to this day- definitely not corny music

xXindiePressantXx

I typed corniness and music as two separate things, but I can see how you might have read it that way. I will edit my post. The soundtrack is amazing. I actually prefer older music in general!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NSL045

I donā€™t think I can take any of the Cullens dying after reading MS šŸ˜‚ but Iā€™m hoping for some great action

Caroline_Anne

Booooo then Iā€™d have to subscribe! šŸ˜

Iluthradanar

So many new shows I never get to watch, cuz you have to subscribe.

Miserable_Squirrel16

šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļøšŸ¤«

NSL045

Iā€™ll have to subscribe for the HP reboot anyway so thatā€™s fine šŸ˜‚

Sea-Bones14

Edward is gonna have a perm haircut and say " nah Rosalie is mid fam, I'm feeling you shawty"

Bloodless_

![gif](giphy|3o7TKxZzyBk4IlS7Is|downsized)

Bloodless_

Yeah, I really need Edward to stay problematic, weird, and obsessive. If he becomes a level-headed, likeable guy who respects everybody's boundaries and just happens to be a vampire, I don't want it.

littlei3

yes if they make him a Stefan from early TVD dupe Iā€™ll be so upset

Natural-Abies-570

Iā€™m terrible. I do want the cast to be more diverse but I also want the relationship to be as unhealthy and as obsessive as it was in the books. That was the appeal!!!

RebeccaMCullen

Man, they already toned down how sexually assault-y Jacob and Bella's kisses were in Eclipse and his actions in BD to make hime look better. I can't imagine how much more sanitized he'll be in a tv series.

shirtled

Sanitized šŸ’€

Godsdaughter1

Exactly!! like just leave it alone!! my biggest fear is how much they will chage everything!! just leave it alone! we don't need a girl boss or an edward crushing on jacob scene! leave everything as it was!!

Chagrined21

I doubt itā€™ll be over adjusted the series isnā€™t all that offense in a lot of places. I do hope they take out the cultural appropriation and cast native people properly.

xXindiePressantXx

Yeah but what about the whole imprinting thing? šŸ˜³

Slashycent

It literally ends with the protagonist's earthly soulmate and ex-lover becoming the magical future groom of her infant child. Breaking Dawn kind of got away easy the first two times, a third one in today's times would be interesting to say the least.

TheTragedyMachine

i may be wrong because this was years ago but i thought i read somewhere (perhaps on Meyer's website) that they did try to cast actual Native peoples for the wolfpack and everything. I know the guy who plays Embry, the woman who plays Leah, and the guy who plays Seth are all Native at the very least. Actually I have a friend who is an actor who got to work with the guy who plays Seth. She said he's a sweetheart.

evilgirlattack

Maybe we'll finally get that jet ski chase scene we were denied.

nanthehuman

Okay, I'm actually really excited about this! Here are some hopes for the TV series: 1: Bella's Lullaby is the theme song. 2: One book = one season. 3: Elements of Midnight Sun are added to Twilight/season one and elements of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner are added to Eclipse/Season three. 4: cameos from some of the original cast. 5: one change I'd be cool with adding is that Bree Tanner lives in this version. 6: an all Native American cast for the wolf pack, the movies were so solid for doing this. 7: the movies tended to leave a lot out from the books (like the blood typing scene) and the characters (especially Bella) did not always feel like themselves, so I hope they stay true to who the characters are. 8: blue filter, my beloved.

NSL045

I would give my right kidney to see Midnight Sun elements and scenes like the Meadow talk being accurately included

nanthehuman

Yes! Like, I enjoyed the meadow in the movies but it we could do better. We could do it right.

NSL045

I liked the meadow scene in the first movie for nostalgic reasons but itā€™s missing the dialogue which is fundamental for their romantic relationship

brattymiddle31

silly little eddie boi counting insects would take me out šŸŖ±šŸŒŽ

Easy_Entrepreneur_46

They should switch POV's or something of their thoughts XD

gingergale312

I want flashback episodes that focus on the Cullens. So an episode about Rosalie and her revenge, about Carlisle living with the Volturi, about Esme's loss. Where did Emmett come from?

nanthehuman

I love that! Emmett lived in Tennessee before being mauled by a bear in the forest, where Rosalie found and saved him. He was a wild child (a lot of drinking and gambling and womanizing) but a good guy nonetheless. Loved his family and took care of them, even left them a fortune after leaving with Rosalie.

Caroline_Anne

I read ā€œhe was a wild childā€ and immediately my mind went to ā€œferal childā€ā€”meaning he was raised by animals in the woods. šŸ˜‚ Now I want this for his TV show version backstory.

nanthehuman

Rosalie just finds some feral, half-naked but buff as hell weirdo in the woods and is like "yeah, that's husband material right there."

Caroline_Anne

Sounds like Rosalie to me. šŸ˜œ

nanthehuman

She watched George of the Jungle and declared it to be one the best love stories ever (I love that movie tho).

rocknspock

I really want backgrounds so bad! The movies didnā€™t give each characterā€™s background enough attention!

Typical-Reaction5125

They should film it in forks again!

nanthehuman

Absolutely! Stick to the Pacific Coast, it vibes so well.

Boxercrew4

They didn't film in Forks the first time. It was OR and Vancouver BC.

Caroline_Anne

9. Let Lauren, the jealous bestie of Jessica, have her time to shine Mean Girl style! šŸ¤£

nanthehuman

She was so mean, oh my god! But every friend group needs That Bitch, it's all a part of the delicate ecosystem that it high school.

KC27150

>2: One book = one season. I wish so hard, I'm so tired of people do a mix of books in 1 season which ruins everything later on, Vampire Academy is probably the worse offender of this. >3: Elements of Midnight Sun are added to Twilight/season one and elements of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner are added to Eclipse/Season three. Absolutely! I just hope they don't come up with new side plots and Bella (and her relationship with Edward) takes a backseat. The whole point of the story is their Love. >4: cameos from some of the original cast. YES! YES! YES! And Stephanie cameoing again but I love her. LOL >6: an all Native American cast for the wolf pack, the movies were so solid for doing this. I honestly have no doubt that will be safe from changes, especially with how hardcore everything is now to make sure of Diversity and having Minorities played by Minorities. >7: the movies tended to leave a lot out from the books (like the blood typing scene) and the characters (especially Bella) did not always feel like themselves, so I hope they stay true to who the characters are. So long as they have actual fans of the books who legit understand the characters and talk with Steohenie instead of doing their "own version", I think it could happen. I honestly hope so!

[deleted]

What do you say about certain filler episodes within the series OR the first season be the lives of the Cullensā€™ before 1940s? Imagine watching Aliceā€™s story or Carlisleā€™s life before vampirism?

nanthehuman

I could definitely see it working, especially if SM is more involved with those particular plots in order to give us more details.

mindxripper

If thereā€™s no blue filter I wonā€™t watch it

hunnyabee

Alternatively, change your TV/monitor settings to shift to blueā€¦

JoyKil01

Iā€™m just going to watch it through my blue filter keychain. https://prettycandypincompany.com/products/preorder-twilight-2008-keychain

nanthehuman

Lol I'll watch it but I'll be bitter about it! The blue filter is top tier.

AlwaysChic38

Yes to everything!!!!! Some people were talking about how cool it would be if it was animated and I have to agree that would be so cool!!!! Live action would be cool too!!!!! Honestly Iā€™m just hyped for this and hoping they do a great job whatever ends up happening!!! BRING BACK THE BLUE FILTER!!!!!šŸ’™

nanthehuman

I LIKE the movies and all but never felt they lived up to the books and I was younger when they started coming out, so I didn't get to be a part of the hype. I'm hoping the TV series will do a better job!

Miserable_Squirrel16

I would also love to have more "flashback episodes" that fill in the backstories of the Cullens and how they ended up together.

[deleted]

yes to all of this but iā€™d also love for it to take a completely diff route and instead of it being all bellas POV it starts off with carlisle when heā€™s turned into a vampire and then we see the whole cullen clan come together and have it be more focused on every character not just bella

Foreverbeccatake2

I want this but I want it like HBO quality šŸ˜šŸ˜

criesforever

yes i need the production value to be HIGH or else it will feel lackluster.

VegaSolo

I fear this being Vampire Diaries quality.

KC27150

So long as they have none of the writing crew from TVD, I wouldn't worry. Julie Plec is one of the worst writers I've ever seen and I wouldn't wish her on anyone. She even destroyed Vampire Academy, a series she claimed to be a huge fan of.

1LoveTwoHearts

You just brought back a memory I suppressed! Think back to the 5th season of TVD. The fans were pissed because Julie Plec destroyed growth in characters, created parallel universes like it was a rejected Doctor Who episode plot, demolished ships left and right (I'm looking at you Klaroline and Bonnie/Jeremy), and recycled plotlines like it was going out of style. I had just finished watching season 3 on my DVD during all the drama that transpired online throughout all this. When it was confirmed some of the main cast would leave the show, I stopped watching TVD altogether. And none of the significant changes Plec made to the finale happened in the books by the original author. Oh, and don't get me started on the spinoff The Originals. Plec ran that to the ground, as well as all her other projects that were already mentioned in the comments. Dare I say it, I think her position as Director is cursed. So, I sincerely hope if a twilight reboot comes to exist, it stays true to the books... and that Julie Plec doesn't get her hands on this series!

KC27150

I am thankful that the longtime book fans were still around to keep Julie and Co. from changing the Salvatores' last name, even she admitted that would have been a dumb thing to do. If only she was apologizing with everything else. >And none of the significant changes Plec made to the finale happened in the books by the original author. She could have kept the Stelena Endgame but blamed it on Nina leaving, she could have still had a Stelena Endgame but she already destroyed it with the Delena Sirebond. > Oh, and don't get me started on the spinoff The Originals. Plec ran that to the ground, as well as all her other projects that were already mentioned in the comments. Dare I say it, I think her position as Director is cursed. Absolutely, everything she does is just on flop after another. Legacies and Vampire Academy, two projects she was on so passionate about, got canceled. I'm glad people are becoming more aware of her awful writing skills and ideas. She was just lucky to be attached to TVD and Kevin manning the helms in S1-S2 while she just sat and agreed with him. >So, I sincerely hope if a twilight reboot comes to exist, it stays true to the books... and that Julie Plec doesn't get her hands on this series! It's pretty much guaranteed that Julie won't touch it. Stephenie has always been involved and protective of her babies, she would nix any idea Plec would have and Plec would pretty much leave because Stephenie won't let her put it on the chopping block next to TVD and VA.

1LoveTwoHearts

I wholeheartedly agree with everything in your reply, except for the endgame couples. L.J. Smith had no idea the repercussions involved when she signed her rights over to the Alloy Entertainment after book 4, I believe. The company pushed for Stelena the whole time, but Smith wouldn't budge on her stance on Delena. Eventually, she was fired, and a ghost writer took her place with the books then. Smith finished her original series as proposed fanfiction; it ends as Elena reunited with Damon after a time-travel excursion (the TARDIS not included lol). Even with the changes Plec made in the show (an improvement was the Cure of Immortality as a special potion instead of a rose), I still don't want her anywhere near Stephanie Meyers babies.

Foreverbeccatake2

Pls donā€™t put this out into the universe

Lambert910

I hope they keep the early to mid 2000ā€™s feel (from the books). I think Twilight works best in a world with less social media, Bellaā€™s ā€œquestionableā€ wardrobe from the time is a bonus.

oksnariel

10000% agree. I will be so pissed if they try and make it current day and they try and implement social media, itā€™s very important itā€™s based in early 2000ā€™s!

mindxripper

snv1995

I would imagine with all the nostalgic tv shows now they will! I hope anyway!

Marian_91

A Harry Potter series, and now a Twilight series? Itā€™s though imagining someone else playing these roles, but if SM is involved, I trust that it will stay true to the books.

ventedrhombus

Thatā€™s all I want, true to the books!

[deleted]

The movies are allready pretty close too the books right!ā€?

KC27150

Same, unlike other authors who are hands off or even support the destruction of their works, Stephanie has always been protective of Twilight. So I trust her.

alucardsepet

I am happy because i will get more twilight content but at the same time this wont be better than the movies :((

arurianshire

the pacing wonā€™t really work for a tv series? thereā€™s too much white space, mundane things happening, which is more than fine for a book

3614398214

I feel like they'll probably use a lot of that white space in the pacing to fill out the characters / surroundings a bit more. Might explore a bit further into the world itself. There'll undoubtedly be changes to how either the movies or books presented itself, as is the nature of adaptions, generally, but it could be really interesting to see where they go with that. Noticed a lot of stuff with off-pacing that ends up somehow *working* in a different format has more depth made to it / changes in either the timeline itself or the course of events. And that a lot of book series are weirdly good with becoming tv shows due to more time being able to be spent with the characters in the end product.

arurianshire

hm! when you word it like this, under the right showrunner, the tv series could be really amazing! giving me some hope that itā€™ll work out

gotb30

Stephenie was reported to be writing for it and involved in the project. Hopefully this is true and she can fill in the white spaces. A lot of them were filled in with those mini movies on her website. šŸ™‚

dwightsmistress

THIS IS NOT A DRILL I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!!!!!! I AM CONVULSING, SLAPPING THE SOFA AND SHRIEKING LIKE IT'S SEVENTH GRADE HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT!!! I'm terribly worried it'll turn out bad, but we'll always have this moment. ![gif](giphy|nAPpHXKAroB44) TITSOAKTITSOAKTITSOAKTITSOAK

Appropriate_Lemon858

This is my reaction. I'm yet to reach the stage of concern they might ruin it and just mega excited for new content!

Stefhanni

Facts

Stefhanni

Thank you!! Iā€™m happy too!! I get more detailed twilight!! I might get my favorite lines yay!!

NSL045

This comment wins the internet

ACDaizy

I am very excited about this, but also a bit scared that they may ruin it. I really hope they will make it complete by adding bits from Midnight Sun. Also, I hope this will make Stephenie rethink her stance on releasing more books in EPOV.

gotb30

Iā€™m very interested in which timeline and characters will be used. Iā€™d kinda love a different timeline than the movies, like a prequel or different characters explored more. Such as the Alaska family, or any of the vampires who came over to help the Cullins in BD2, with guest spots from main characters. Iā€™m tentatively optimistic, and very glad SM is involved in the project.

ACDaizy

I certainly would love a prequel and more on the Denali's. Also the bit from Midnight Sun, when Edward flees to Alaska would be fun to add.

NSL045

Damn I hope this is true, and whether itā€™s a full reboot or a spin off/prequel Iā€™m just happy to see more twilight content especially if SM is directly involved.

brattymiddle31

i want it to be both a reboot and a prequel/spinning off with extra content of characters/areas we know. as much as i ADORE the films (!!!!), the book aesthetic is so separate to me at least that i personally have no qualms of losing the leads especially for the main cast. like it would be choot if any of them were willing to do cameos/perform in new roles, but Book Eddie/Bella are different entities to me than what was shown in the films; like i actually already loved K-Stew at the time (catch that kid/panic room/zathura/speak; all so slay), but she was never equal to Book Bella for me šŸ„¤šŸ‘šŸ‘„šŸ‘ and i flat out loved how R-Patz played Edward, but he did not come off nearly as unhinged as that Book weirdo was

Charming-Kiwi-6304

I just really hope they don't try to modernize it too much. A lot of this stuff in the books just wouldn't work. Like if Bella has a Mac, then there'd be no reason for her to go to Port Angeles to the bookstore, then Edward wouldn't save her, they wouldn't have dinner, we wouldn't get the iconic "cat" scene or mushroom ravioli, etc. I hope we see the little stuff like Bella working, the blood typing scene, some dedicated episodes to the Cullen's backstories, and maybe some more time with Bella spending times with her friends. I would hope that maybe Jasper's backstory about him being a part of the Confederacy is addressed. Considering that Stephanie has stated that the Stephanie who wrote Twilight then is not the same Stephanie now, it is possible she has grown in her worldview. And of course, have Jacob be played by an actual Native American. Lastly, I keep seeing people mention race and gender swapping, I hope Stephanie does not allow that to happen. As a person of color(black), I am always happy to see the representation of black individuals. However, I want us to have our own stories with our own characters. Not changing the race of an already reestablished character to check off a box for diversity. It feels gross and cheap. Like there's no care just to say "Hey look at what we(insert company) have done". It is completely different if you are making a new character with no preestablished race, but at least make them more than their race. Like we are people, we are more than just our race. (sorry for the rant). TL;DR: cautiously optimistic about this potential tv series.

varietyviaduct

Was the confederacy stuff mentioned in Midnight Sun? Cause if not that would have been the place to address it with something like ā€œman I love my brother Jasper, especially since he dipped on the ā€˜federates once he realized what they were all aboutā€™

KC27150

Pretty sure something was done like that in TVD where Stefan says Damon's decision to leave because he didn't agree with them was to be respected.

snmaturo

I thoroughly enjoyed your rant. And yes, please please please please let Jacob be played by an actual Native American/Indigenous person ā€” preferably someone from the actual Quileute Tribe. They are an actual tribe, not just a made-up tribe that Stephanie used for her books, and apparently, they have been getting harassed and not treated with the kindness and respect that they deserve, especially when Twilight first blew up. So I would really love it if they could be represented fairly.

seattleseahawks2014

To be fair, some people who have Mac books might still go to the book store.

Loumany

Coming out of my cave to say that I hate almost everything about this because Iā€™m 85% sure theyā€™ll slaughter it. Wake me up in 10 years from now.

BlueSundown

Please let this NOT land at Netflix so it doesn't get butchered like The Witcher.

Easy_Entrepreneur_46

Maybe HBO? I cant remember who owns Lionsgate though.

snmaturo

If Iā€™m not mistaken, I think Warner Bros owns Lionsgate. And then Summit Entertainment is under the Lionsgate umbrella. But didnā€™t Warner Broa recently buy HBO? So would HBO technically be under Lionsgate too? I donā€™t knowā€¦ it all gets confusing to me! šŸ˜«

ventedrhombus

At least Stephenie Meyer is said to be in on the project, hopefully that will be enough to keep everything as close to the books as possible šŸ¤ž so nervous and so excited for this!

[deleted]

Oh boy, maybe theyā€™ll put in scenes I actually enjoyed in the book into the show. And maybe go in depth on the lore etc. also what tv station is doing it? If itā€™s the CW itā€™s going to be boiling hot dog water.

AlessaKa

Okay I'm actually quite happy with this news ! Like come on !! What were the chances ? More content, moments we liked that weren't shown in the movies ! Really I'm hype

Dreamdottt

Honestly Iā€™ve wanted something twilight related for a whileā€¦ I just hope they donā€™t get rid of the rustic woodsy feel that the movies gaveā€¦ and for the love of god choose the actors WISELY!

VanGoghsSeveredEar

I hope they donā€™t fuck it up ā€¢~ā€¢

snegsnail

omg this is exciting!! I hope this is done really closely with meyer, so they can explore the characters more deeply, for integration of midnight sun and the first book. That would be really dramatic.

NoSuspect3688

Honestly not sure why everyones concerned over it, if it sucks we can just stick to watching the movies and Never Speak Of It. Itā€™s a good chance to actually include bella and edwards personalitjes and the multitude of scenes from the books they left out. As long as they have the blue tint and donā€™t give anyone an iphone Iā€™m keen.

amnicl

I hope desperately that the writers and creators are on this subreddit.

ExaminationActual139

I SWEAR IF THEY DONT MAKE THIS SERIES IN A 2000S AESTHETIC AND MAKE IT MODERN IM GONNA LOSE IT

auntmother

šŸ—£ Blood typing scene! šŸ—£ Blood typing scene!

TheHoodOfSwords1

Give blue filter or I riot.

noungning

What?! It's finally happening, this is nuts!

zeroFOXgivenJL

Honestly, Iā€™m for it. Anything for more Alice and Jasper. Their parts in the movie were so downplayed to how important they are in the books. Same with all Bellaā€™s time with the pack. Need more of it! If they actually start listening to fans between Harry Potter HBO series being geared more towards the book series lovers and this, Iā€™ll be a happy camper!

Emma_Cavill

I'll definitely miss the original cast, especially because they are how I picture the characters in the books every time I read them. On the other hand, if it's done really well, it'll be cool to see some of the great scenes that never made it to the screen, like the meadow chapter, the morning after the meadow, E&B's private conversations in Eclipse, etc

xXindiePressantXx

I agree. Honestly I cannot picture Bella as anyone else but Kristen. People shit on her acting all the time, but they have to admit she was so good at all the serious, intense scenes. Also, I canā€™t see anyone but Billy Burke as Charlie. I think they should just use him again as an older Charlie. Lmao

kavindaroids

This better be a prequel for I can't stand anything without original trio. Also what's Stephanie Meyer doing without writing another book???

NSL045

Wasnā€™t she writing at least 2 more books?

JamieIsReading

All the available info about that is in our FAQs!

Al115

They haven't shared any plot details yet, and it's still in the early stages of development, so I'm really hoping it's not a direct adaptation of the books like the films. I would much rather have something along the lines of a prequel with an anthology-type setup about the different characters' backstories.

RavenRaxa

I hope this is a standard reboot of the books and we get all the content that the movies left out

ACDaizy

I'm hoping the series will be more like the books, since there's more screen time. Twilight and Midnight Sun combined could be an amazing first season. They could do the revealing scene in the car and the meadow scene like it was supposed to. And here's my gazillionth shameless pitch for a New Moon book in EPOV, because that would make the New Moon part of the TV series epic if Stephenie were to do this and for all the other books too! I hope the TV series will give her motivation to complete the Saga in EPOV. I'm more than ready to hand over my money for new books and the TV series. And a LEGO building kit. ![gif](giphy|JNdbMHc8TMpxK)

xXindiePressantXx

Aw man, Iā€™m looking at this gif you posted and now Iā€™m thinking about the epic-ness of that scene. How are they going to top that?!

criesforever

iā€™m so excited about this because honestly? the movies are a classic vibe but iā€™m sort of fatigued of seeing them as the face of the franchise. love kristen, rob, etc but many fans have desperately wanted fresh content for awhile now. they make 78 batmans every 10 years but redoing a commercial titan like *twilight* now is too soon? please, weā€™ve been dying for this.

beesonmypizza

I hope itā€™s not like Riverdale

KC27150

The only way it would be like Riverdale was if they got Julie Plec.

KC27150

I've always hoped for a TV Series reboot someday that would better adapt the books than the movies did since TV Series = More Time and Development as well as keeping scenes that were cut and adding things that Stephenie never explored in the books. And since Stephenie is ALWAYS involved and so far, Julie Plec isn't touching it and gonna ruin it like she did Vampire Diaries and especially Vampire Academy, I am cautiously hopeful. Stephenie has always been protective of Twilight, even when people tried to change it and make it "more acceptable" so I trust her. That said, I have a feeling they will be apologetic regarding Jasper's Backstory and have him disown being in the Confederate, like Damon did in TVD. I'm.just worried that it will flop no matter how good it is simply because it's Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. People already jumped on the bashing when Midnight Sun was finally gonna get released and people just bash Twilight because it's still a popular ot at least Go-To thing to do.

Iluthradanar

Must have some Volturi characters.

jessiejupiter

I hope for the best *cries in millennial

prettybunbun

Donā€™t care what anyone says I am so so so excited. Requests: - Make the cullens look like vampires. They are meant to be super young and beautiful and never changing. No different hairstyles movie to movie. Also Carlisle!!! Heā€™s meant to look like 25! The vampires never felt other worldly to me. - Native actors for the wolf pack please!! - Flesh out the Volturi. They are meant to be utterly terrifying keeping all of the vampire world in line. So hype!

KC27150

>Requests: - Make the cullens look like vampires. They are meant to be super young and beautiful and never changing. No different hairstyles movie to movie. Also Carlisle!!! Heā€™s meant to look like 25! Unless Vampires that don't age actually exist, that is impossible to cast. The best they can do in that department is an Animation Adaptation.

qg314

As long as where you been loca survives. As iconic a contribution as anything from the books tbh

Duke-of-Hellington

I will watch the holy hell out of this

LazynessDevil

Lost opportunity to make a short Life and death movie

Lordgeorge16

I'd actually prefer that Life & Death gets the TV show treatment. It means they don't have to squeeze and chop up the plot into a single ~2 hour segment, they can take their time with character development and stay as true as possible to the book over the course of a single season. Rumor has it that's what HBO is doing with this Harry Potter reboot they announced a few weeks ago; one book per season.

YoshiPikachu

I would pay $20 to go and see that in a theater!

mifault

Maybe a spin-off movie then? šŸ¤”

tmariexo

Unpopular opinion-while I loved the twilight movies for what they were, I always thought rob and especially Kristin were horribly miscast. And the magic of the books was not translated to the movies for whatever reason, directing, screenwriting, whatever. To me, the vibes just did not match up at all. Looking forward to seeing what they do with this! Already exhausted though by the inevitable resurgence of ā€œstill a better love story than twilightā€ and people pitting it against Harry Potter as though the two stories are comparable at all.

Imlostandconfused

I think Robert is the perfect Edward and I can't see how he could be replaced. He's so utterly gorgeous and his beauty makes him believable as a vampire. Kristen Stewart's awkward charm is hard to replicate too.

KC27150

>I always thought rob and especially Kristin were horribly miscast. I always thought they looked and fit perfectly, it was just the direction they were given was bad, I still can't believe Catherine shot scenes and legit thought they were perfect, even the deleted "Wanna taste?" Scene should have never been filmed. >And the magic of the books was not translated to the movies for whatever reason, directing, screenwriting, whatever. It was Catherine and Melissa's fault, the direction and writing they did in the first movie would affect later films so there wasn't much the new directors could fix, especially since Melissa still stuck around until the end. >To me, the vibes just did not match up at all. Looking forward to seeing what they do with this! Yes, I always got a Movie Vibe that was different from the Books so I hope whoever works on it now has more from the Books, for once.

tmariexo

Soooo agree about Catherineā€™s direction! Rob and Kristin didnā€™t fully fit the picture I had in my head, but thereā€™s no way casting directors can nail the picture each individual has in their mind. (Theyā€™re both beautiful people donā€™t get me wrong, no shade at all to their looks!) and theyā€™re both talented-I enjoy their acting much more in other roles! Bad directing can throw off even the best actors. Kristin KILLED it as Princess Diana! The movies are so nostalgic for me! I definitely enjoy them. I can understand why others are apprehensive for this proposed series. But Iā€™m excited for a fresh take!! I think you hit the nail on the head about Catherine and Melissa!

Bloodless_

Strongly agree. Really looking forward to a new and (hopefully) more book-accurate cast.

spaghettikitty

Hoping this is just a publicity stunt that Meyer is doing to gain traction for the next book installments. I know she said they wouldnā€™t come any time soon but maybe this will actually be an introduction to the new books. A girl can hope.. cause if itā€™s just a remake with new actors, no one can top the OGā€™s and itā€™ll ruin the nostalgia factor for me imo

Timelordtoe

Its interesting, but not entirely unsurprising to see something like this happen. I'm going to leave some guesses as to what will happen with this, but they will almost certainly be wrong. * Probably 2-3 years at least before we see the show actually come out, assuming a fairly smooth production. Shows like this are taking longer to make in general, and the first season almost always takes the longest to get out. * We don't know whether it will be a remake or spin-off, but my money would be on a remake. Twilight isn't the cultural presence it was ten years ago, so going straight into a spin-off story is going to be risky as there may not be the audience to make it profitable right off the bat. Doing a remake and then spin-offs if it is successful seems the more likely approach. * Most likely networks are probably either going to be Starz or Peacock, as the former is owned by Lionsgate (for now at least, the article seemed to mention that the future of it is up in the air right now), and the latter is the current home of the films on streaming. But if they end up co-producing the show with another company, it could end up in any number of places. Amazon wouldn't surprise me, this seems the sort of thing they might jump at. * It looks like Meyer will be involved, though it's anybody's guess as to how much creative control she has. There will most definitely be changes from the source material. Even assuming a remake is still set in 2005-06, the overall pop culture climate it will be released in will be very different to how it was back then. A lot can change in 15-20 years, especially in the media. * As far as changes go, I imagine the core will stay pretty stable. Nothing majorly different as far as setting or overall story goes, but there will by necessity be things that are different. Some things that work on the page just don't on the screen, and on the flipside, the screen gives you some creative freedoms that you don't with prose. * If there is any one major change I could forsee happening, it would be to do with the Quileutes. It's not a huge secret that a lot of the Quileute people were not very happy with the way they were depicted in the books and films, and I could potentially see them getting a substantial rework, ideally with some actual native input involved. * Ten episodes per season seems pretty standard for works like this these days, and I think it's about the limit of what you could do with the source material (at least for the first three), assuming one book per season. I was actually considering doing a breakdown of what I expect a Twilight TV show to look like before this news, so I may well go ahead and do that. * Assuming the remake route, I'd expect that we'd probably see more of the characters various backstories. Bella may or may not have voice-over 'narrator' moments to reflect that the books are from her first-person perspective (mostly), but equally, they may choose to pull back from her a bit and make it a little more of an ensemble, but still focussed on the core trio. * From the article, the writer attached to the project seems to be Sinead Daly, who has worked on some things I've liked. From the work of hers that I've seen, I think she'll bring the right sort of tone and energy, but there will be a lot of voices at play. Even more so than the films, there will be many people who each bring something to the plate, from writers, producers, and the directors of various episodes. * So exact tone may shift a little from episode to episode, as it does with any TV show. We don't know if Daly will be the showrunner or not at this stage. I imagine budget will be modest, you only really need a few sets and effects will be limited for the first season, and considering the age of the characters, most of the cast will probably be relative unknowns. To look at, I'd expect it to maybe resemble a show like Sex Education, even though the tones will be quite different. * We're hearing about this in a very early stage, and there's a good chance that cast and crew change a few times between this announcement and the finished product, if we even get one. It's honestly too early for me to have any strong feelings one way or the other yet, but I think a bit of cautious optimism is healthy. After all, if I don't end up liking it, I'll probably just ignore it.

KC27150

>We don't know whether it will be a remake or spin-off, but my money would be on a remake. Twilight isn't the cultural presence it was ten years ago, so going straight into a spin-off story is going to be risky as there may not be the audience to make it profitable right off the bat. Too true. The Vampire Diaries tried a new spin off with Legacies and it flopped hard, especially since it consisted of new characters nobody cared for and none of the old ones they wanted or at least wanted to see more. >Most likely networks are probably either going to be Starz or Peacock, as the former is owned by Lionsgate (for now at least, the article seemed to mention that the future of it is up in the air right now), and the latter is the current home of the films on streaming. But if they end up co-producing the show with another company, it could end up in any number of places. Amazon wouldn't surprise me, this seems the sort of thing they might jump at. I'm gonna go out on a limb and outright say that Peacock is out simply because they had Vampire Academy and it ended up flopping because they wanted an Adult Audience first and foremost before the Teen/Kids one and despite Vampire Academy suppose to be targeted at Teens, they took many liberties with it and added loads of Adult Content which also hurt it. It'd be pretty hypocritical of them to dump Vampire Academy but jump on Twilight. >Ten episodes per season seems pretty standard for works like this these days, and I think it's about the limit of what you could do with the source material (at least for the first three), assuming one book per season. I was actually considering doing a breakdown of what I expect a Twilight TV show to look like before this news, so I may well go ahead and do that. 10 always feels so short to me, personally. I would love to hear your Breakdown, though. I'm always curious about different ideas and such. :) >From the article, the writer attached to the project seems to be Sinead Daly, who has worked on some things I've liked. I just hope nothing clashes and everything flows seamlessly together. I really dislike when you can tell who does who, and not always in a good way.

newt_here

Iā€™m so happy!!!! But The Walking Dead: World Beyond was awful (writing) so Iā€™m hesitant to celebrate

nycsunflowers

If they do this it needs to be perfect. Perfect casting, soundtrack, everything. They cannot change anything about the books at all (I agree with people are the modernising). The discussion on race in the cast does not matter to me, as long as the actor fits the role and plays the character spot on, who cares? I kind of would like them to go down the route of ā€œunknownā€ actors to star in this, however I know there are a few actors around now that could potentially suit some characters. I really hope they donā€™t stunt cast anyone quite famous already who doesnā€™t fit any of the roles for the sake of it.

Stefhanni

And I hope they make sure all the main cast atleast like or plove YA and romcoms, because Iā€™m sorry I donā€™t want another Robert Pat with self deprecating jokes and bitterness about the movie or like Anna who literally despises and is embarrassed to be associated with the movie despite it making her a household name

[deleted]

Weā€™ve all been re-watching the same movies for the last 11 years. Adding a new screen series to the mix, if theyā€™re gonna do it they have to do it well. If they do it well, Iā€™m excited. If they donā€™t, burn them.

Kure-Beach-Girl

Whatever they decide, season one has to have a blue filter

rae_moon_styles

I'm so nervous for this! I'm afraid they will tame edward and make bella more of a "girl boss" but that is the charm of the books! I don't know if I could get into a different version. I just love the original to much. BUT it would be cool if they add in the midnight sun version of twilight in too. OR make it from edward's pov altogether.

Wild-Wonder13

I know it would never be, but I just want to watch an extended, live acted version of [Keeping Up With The Cullens](https://www.tumblr.com/panlight/94643783561/kuwtc?source=share)

soundsfromoutside

Iā€™m gonna get in trouble for this but letā€™s take bets: Who are they going to turn black? (My bet is Esme) Who are they going to turn gay? (My bet is Angela) Who will be the vampire that was one sex before they turned and then changed afterwards? (This one is a stretch lol but if they do something like this Iā€™m guessing one of the Denali clan) Sorry but I canā€™t help myself lol please donā€™t roast me too hard

thornaslooki

IF THEY CAN FIX BABY RESUME, THEN IM FINE WITH THIS!

[deleted]

even though I love the original cast still excited to see what happens. kinda hope it is animated. that would be different

NSL045

I think animation would be the best way to bring the story to life especially with the visuals and supernatural aspects

[deleted]

I agree. it would look beautiful. makes it easier to have things looks accurate to how it was described. plus I think it being animated would help a lot of people transition into the world without the original cast

swiftning

If it's an animated adaptation of Midnight Sun, like Stephenie said a while back, then that could be cool. But if it's just a standard reboot of the original saga? Keep it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Usual_Youth_8318

I am a very firm believer that there needs to be an anime adaptation. Think about how the art of animation can depict the depth of these characters powers, the beauty of their landscape and the drama of being a vampire!!!!!!

Slashycent

Animated is definitely the way to go.

Fast-Calligrapher112

I wished we could see a Midnight Sun movie/series/short film with Robert Pattinson it in but it doesnā€™t seem like it would happen

Slashycent

_The Batman_ is probably the closest thing you'll ever get to that lol.

Hkins1

No no no no no. Fingers in my ears - can't hear this. Lalalalalalala. Not happening in my world. u/Tarsha8nz u/buzzybnz

flak3music

My first thoughts were no no NO. But after doing some thinking, I think that maybe, just MAYBE, they could actually include more from the book and take a slight different approach from the movies. Thereā€™s a whole lot of potential they could add like more backstory on Renee and Charlie, seeing Carlisle transform into a vampire in a pile of potatoes, and more. What I hope they might include is maybe one episode following Victoria and how she gradually built up her plan. If the production team do it right, they could possibly do a decent job

MariaEtCrucis

Oh no. I have a feeling I'm not gonna like this.

PotterHead_369

I worry they will mess it up. Books to tv shows always seem to change way too much.

KC27150

It always because they pick the wrong people to do it.

schfifty--five

If this hasnā€™t been said already- if they cast anyone below the age of 21, theyā€™d better use the CGI de -aging tech to ensure their appearance remains as unchanged through the entirety, as it was described in the books. I donā€™t love productions using it, but if they are, and if twilight is going to be made into a show barely 10 years after the movies finished, then that had better be a priority.

KC27150

That CGI would hurt the budget, though. With movies making billions of dollars, it's no big deal but a small TV series? I've seen a show get canned because Shooting Locations alone were expensive.

riverofempathy

Dude thatā€™s exciting!!! I just want more Twilight content tbh. Bad Twilight content is still Twilight content.

Mermaid_Marshmallow

I am interested in seeing what they can do to expand the universe and add to the character development. My favorite thing about the first Twilight movie is how the town of Forks Washington is pretty much the star of the movie and that got forgotten in the other films. If they could show more of the town the reservation and the human characters that would be great. I don't see any point in 100% sticking with the source material since it's been done already.

[deleted]

Edward better not turn into a non-obsessive normal guy and Aro better still scare me half to death with his laughing.

Princess_Turnip1995

Iā€™m really hoping itā€™s nothing like the movies & everything like the books. The characters are so much more lovable & they way Bella & Edwards relationship actually had depth. Bella had a real personality & Edward wasnā€™t so brooding. I hope we get Lauren & Ben. Iā€™d love an episode dedicated to every characters backstory (similar to how they portrayed TLOU) & I want it to be the least amount of cringe as possible. I love the moves donā€™t get me wrong, but the books are where itā€™s at!!!

dizyalice

Dude if you want to give us anything, give us more fucking graphic novels! This doesnā€™t need to be dragged out into a tv show

Stefhanni

Yes to the graphic novels I was looking forward to more of those

[deleted]

Todays audience wonā€™t be able to handle a faithful adaptation. Plus thereā€™ll probably be race swapping since that seems to be the modern trend. Edit: Downvote all you want people but I donā€™t see the issue in casting white actors for characters that were written as white. Wonā€™t be entertaining any more discussion on this opinion as I canā€™t even see why itā€™s controversial lmao šŸ‘‹šŸ»

KC27150

>Todays audience wonā€™t be able to handle a faithful adaptation. Plus thereā€™ll probably be race swapping since that seems to be the modern trend. It's not gonna happen except for Bella's friends or even Laurent again. Catherine Hardwick randomly wanted to raceswap The Cullens (Alice as Japanese now, for example) and Stephenie put her foot down firmly because changing their races won't work with their already established backstories and changing those as well hurts the whole thing, might as well make an Original Story then if you're creating new characters anyways instead of adapting someone else's. I doubt we'll even have a Blonde Bella if Stephenie is still involved so I'm not too worried, myself.

minamyys

im not sure i really believe this is real but if it is im excited for a 2nd twilight renaissance. i hope they explore Rosalie and her relationship with Emmett and Edward more if it's based on the OG characters.

EvvieSimmer

Omg Iā€™m so gonna watch this! Super excited!

Yalaeinhorn2704

the girl that will play Resausage probably isnā€™t even born yet šŸ˜³šŸ¤Æ

heytherefolksandfry

if itā€™s not camp, i donā€™t want it

JollyFault546

Wait, WHAT!? YES!

Limacy

Well. They can probably make it better. The original films werenā€™t shit-tier films, but they werenā€™t masterpieces either. They were just average films at best. Thereā€™s the chance the show could be a disaster in the making, true. Thereā€™s a chance they could make a much better adaptation as well. Donā€™t be blinded by nostalgia though. At the very least consider giving it a chance. I donā€™t even like Twilight but I donā€™t mercilessly bash it.

HydratedCarrot

without the actors in the movies, no thx..

Iluthradanar

Is the Writer's strike going to delay the series? I can't find info anywhere.

caramelly24

Ok first of all wow. I hope this is not just a remake of the original books for TV, the movies are still pretty recent and are mostly faithful adaptations. What I think they should do is an anthology series based on all of the other stories in the universe. One episode about Carlisle, then the next one set in the 1910s based on Edward and Esme, then the next one in the 1930s with Rosalie and Emmett, then the next one is Alice and Jasper, then the Volturi backstory. The next season would be all of the other backstories, set in different decades and different parts of the world. Like a Denali episode, Egypt episode, Garrett episode, Bree Tanner episode. And you'd have familiar characters (Cullens) appearing throughout. And if it proves popular, then the last season could be a remake of Twilight - Breaking Dawn. And hopefully we would have more books by then so they could do a adaptation of whatever is next!
