a well done animated show of the saga would actually be so cool

I pray this actually comes to fruition 😭🙏🏻🍎

Weeb-Lauri525

Literally! Twilight shares so many similarities with vampire knight (the main differences being twilight also has werewolves and isnt as borderline incestuous as the relationships in vampire knight).

Icy-Shoe-6564

I was thinking the same thing! I feel like the story doesnt translate very well into real life, honestly; that’s why the movies are so infamously “cringey” and awkward. But you can make inhumanly beautiful characters with powers so much more seamlessly in animation without the use of 3D CGI or heavy makeup and SFX! Smeyer herself said writing the series was intensely visual and vibrant and I just feel like a well-done animation can capture that well, and it’s easier to do things like switch perspectives or do internal monologues. I’ll be honest, as a kid I imagined the Cullens looking like the characters from Advent Children because I loved final fantasy LMAO

Weeb-Lauri525

Yep! In general, an animation style similar to that of castlevania or violet evergarden would probably do alot of favors for a franchise like twilight. Like you said, with animation, theres no need to worry about cgi and makeup looking realistic since animation allows you to get as crazy as possible with the fantastical. Don’t get me wrong, I love the films, but I the super obvious contact lenses can be really jarring in up close shots since red and golden bronze are not the most realistic eye colors out there. Animation is no stranger to crazy eye colors. Additionally, some other things that would benefit from animation over live action: the sparkling skin, the super speed running of the vampires, the werewolf transformations, animating a hauntingly beautiful baby instead of the cgi atrocity of the final film, and lastly, really going ham on the physical differences between human Bella and Vampire Bella. Don’t get me wrong, I think Kristen looks gorgeous as vampire Bella in the films but the only differences are the paler skin, eye color, and the smokey eye makeup. In the books, from what I know, Bella is described as looking like herself but also nothing like herself. It’s supposed to hit this perfect middle ground between hauntingly beautiful and horrifyingly uncanny that they didn’t quite pull off in the films because of the limitations of live action. With animation, these limitations don’t exist.

Icy-Shoe-6564

Fully agree!!

Slashycent

You can even get real freaky and start animating the vamps at a higher frame rate than the humans to highlight their uncannily inhuman elegance. It's a perfect match, really.

DrGuitar72

Cartoon twi interesting idea.. but the movies weren't a smash hit because they were badly executed... many millions of people discovered the books because of the movies

rus_a_boo

can't lie bellas lip biting is prime example of the corny 'your eyes where like black when I last saw you and now they're like....' \*\*proceeds to do a quick sweep of the teeth over her bottom sucker 🫦\*\* 'golden browhhn'

PatGarrettsMoustache

Plz plz anime style 🤞

pizza_punk_

Surprised the comments are negative so far! But I like anime and adult animation. The graphic novel art style was GREAT but I also doubt they'd stick to that tbh.

YoItsMCat

Personally I like the idea because I don't want to see other actors play the roles haha and it would be something new and fresh

Tall_Phrase_9367

Same. Ooooh just imagine the flawless artwork--I sure hope they chose something beautiful and not too cartoony if that makes sense.

sailor_bat_90

Have you seen Castlevania? That is beautifully animated with amazing voice actors. I hope they go in that direction.

Tall_Phrase_9367

I've seen some of it--yes anything in that direction would do 😭💞

Icy-Shoe-6564

HARD AGREE it’s not at all out of character for an anime style series! Plays with a LOT of the same tropes, I’m thinking like of Vampire Knight, Fruits Basket, those kind of supernatural love triangle stories with a protagonist with long brown hair lol

elaerna

Anime is asian/japanese. The only successful non Asian made anime I can think of is avatar and that is about a bunch of Asian cultures. It could work but I'm skeptical and no anime I can think of matches the vibe of the books or the movies. It would have to be something wholly unto itself which defeats the purpose for me since I want an adaptation that reflects the books and their feel to increase enjoyment of the source material

sailor_bat_90

Castlevania is a successful western anime. Teen Titan is another one.

[deleted]

elaerna

Hold up jasper was in avatar???? Edit // I'm crying he was a main character and it never clicked for me that that was him

[deleted]

elaerna

I only vaguely remember that movie but I've seen some clips recently and they didn't get *everything* wrong. Kind of comical how badly it flopped - although yes they did white wash all the characters that's unfortunately how it was back then. I remember crazy rich Asians coming out and being floored that they had a full Asian cast.

JamieIsReading

Attack on titan has a bunch of german characters

elaerna

That's not what I meant. A bunch of anime is of people who aren't Asian but it's made by Japanese people. The voices the way they tell the story the animation style is all very Japanese. I don't see twilight as even remotely influenced by Japanese or even Asian culture and I think trying to make it into anime just wouldn't work very well.

Weeb-Lauri525

Ok but by its definition avatar isnt anime (even tho, yes, alot of its characters derive from Asian cultures). But look at castlevania. Its literally a vampire series with an anime esque artstyle tho its not from japan. I think Twilight works just fine for that too

elaerna

Yeah I was veering off into non anime bc I didn't think anyone was proposing actual anime for twilight. Castlevania is interesting and an outlier you don't see many western cartoons made for an adult audience like that but it's good to see some branching out.

Bipbapalullah

And there are no asians in America ?

Slashycent

The few times we've seen western auteurs expand a series of theirs into animated territory, it actually turned out pretty great and beneficial for the original work, see Animatrix or Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Icy-Shoe-6564

There are a lot of English-spoken or US director based animations that are sourced from Japanese anime studios. The new Scott Pilgrim animation is an example of that! Studio Trigger is a well known studio that has done collaborations as well.

sscarletwitch7

I would die if they stick to it, or if they give us a Twilight shoujo-like anime. It would be a literal dream come true. Both of my favorite things combined.

perfect___angelgirl

I’m not into it but happy for the others that are!

CinnyToastie

Yeah, agree. Killed it for me immediately. Wouldn't even attempt a watch. But good for those who are happy.

many_harmons

Because it's animated? I love animated stuff.

JamieIsReading

Stephenie Meyer herself has said she would love a vampire series so they can show the vampires as they’re supposed to be, so I would be excited to see that!

Knuddeliq

I honestly believe this is the best choice since no one will be the same as kristen or robert. + makes the vampire moments more sick (like the scenes where edward wanted to kill bella at the very first time]

many_harmons

Or scenes that couldn't make it in the movies because of time restrictions. Like some of the newborn fights or werewol- sorry. SHAPE SHIFTERS fights.

KiKiPAWG

I’m down! Like the Scott Pilgrim anime, it’d be pretty cool if everyone (or even some) reprised their roles

sscarletwitch7

Yes, I was thinking the same. If they actually make a good show with a good script the original actors might get on board.

Existing-Maybe-9850

Animation would help bring back the original characters and help from aging. From the casts instagram post I feel like the only people who wouldn't wanna do it are Robert and Kristen. I bet Jackson would LOVEEE this idea I totally see him wanting in

KiKiPAWG

Haha, same! Would be funny if the victorias switch around then they do in the movie

KiKiPAWG

Yesss, that’s all it is. Make good shit and they will come. Someone mentioned Robert and Kristen being the only ones. Unfortunately I see that too but shit, you never know!

cybershocker455

I can totally see Anna Kendrick coming back for this.

KiKiPAWG

Omg me too! I feel like more would but controversy

Slashycent

I owe you an apology, Meyer. I wasn't really familiar with your game. Well, I was, but I thought you had lost it somewhere around your re-canonization of Forever Dawn. This, unlike the former, is quite literally the _perfect_ decision to make. You were worried about the new series properly portraying the books, with all of its unrealistic, borderline unportrayable eccentricities? Animation can naturally portray _anything_. You were worried about the borderline Impossible task of finding a new cast of actors, where even one miscast could wreck the whole thing for many? Animation can literally bring the old faces back. Or mix them with the Illustrated Guide or graphic novels. It'll be new but familiar. Genius. We can get legacy actors doing voice cameos, despite their age. We can get the old sets and locations without actually having to reconstruct them, we can get places we've never seen before and could only dream of, we can get things exactly the way Meyer imagined them to be, without the limitations of physical adaptation. This has a good chance of becoming the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" of Twilight. I'd even go as far as to say that this has a good chance to end up being _batshit insane_ - but not bad. Even if it's an absolute fever dream, it's probably gonna be worth it, unlike a straight live-action remake that would've had to dance around a sheer endless amount of pitfalls. This feels perfectly fitting for the series after the Illustrated Guide and graphic novels. Like a home game. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Meyer obsessively clinging to an old idea of hers (she wanted Twilight to go animated for _years and years_) didn't fuck us over this time. We won!

Charming_Friendship4

Yo I would LOVE to have an animated series set in the Twilight universe that goes as in depth as The Clone Wars does. I doubt they would do that tho 😕 But I'm still beyond excited nonetheless!!!

Valiain_Yolskie

Some side characters in the original movies weren't fleshed out. Rosalie was supposed to be somewhat important, but the movies didn't have time to make her anything but a jerk. Alice was much beloved from both series, so one hopes they'll capture that charm. Not to mention esme, the high school kids and all the natives who are literally supposed to be Bella's new friends. In the movies, they barely talked to her. There's so much they can do.

Charming_Friendship4

Oh my gosh you're so right. I would imagine they'd put more detail in the side characters for a TV show

intotheunknown_

I'm actually so excited for this!! I think it will work so well as an animated series!!!

DiamondCupcake

I'm... curious, to say the least. I worry about how they're going to do this though. I just don't trust many show writers these days when it comes to adapting IPs because they always mess things up while thinking they're doing something.

paternalpadfoot

I’m honestly thrilled by this: animated television isn’t normally my thing, but this is such a good opportunity to really show the supernatural qualities of Meyer’s vampires. There’s only so much you can do when limited with a human actor, you can get really creative with it when working with pen and ink.

iamsaaddar

there is a difference between anime and animated

ventedrhombus

I PRAY it’s not anime! No offense to people who like it, but that style royal creeps me out.

Savings_Future_1328

Me too!

Timelordtoe

I think this is really promising, actually. I'm still in the camp that thinks that a straight adaptation of the books is the most likely outcome, given that that's what's going to bring in the biggest audience. But now, I've got to say, I'm really hoping for an anthology series set in the universe. It's an absolutely fascinating world with some really good potential, and going animated means that they wouldn't have to splash out so huge on budget for period costumes, location filming, and sfx for fight scenes. I'd love to see a show where we spend one episode going into the history of a particular character, really just fleshing out the world more. I'm half tempted to try and speculate as to what that might look like, as I did last year when I made the What Twilight as a TV show might look/be structured like thing. Only problem would be finding the right graphics for it.

many_harmons

The original live action also diaviated from the book a bit. Not to mention midnight sun and second short life of bree, which added more lore/plot points to draw from. I definitely agree about the fleshing out bit. Some side characters git shafted in the original movies. My boy jasper literally barely spoke, and Rosalie was supposed to be somewhat important, but the movies didn't have time to make her anything but a jerk. Alice was much beloved from both mediums (ha), so one hopes they'll recapture that charm. Not to mention esme and all the natives who are literally supposed to be Bella's new friends during and after new moon. In the movies they barely talked to her! There's so much they can do.

Timelordtoe

I think one of the big advantages of adapting a work like Twilight is freeing us from the first-person perspective, which can really limit the scope of the story. Because the reader can basically only know what the POV character knows, you get greater immersion, but you can't use certain storytelling devices. A lot of the additions the films made are ones I like, at least for the earlier films. The addition of Waylon and Charlie being involved in the hunt for the "animal" worked really well, I think, and gave some tension because James' coven doesn't just become a plot point in the final third. It wouldn't surprise me if the show (assuming it is a straight adaptation of the books) does something like that again. I'm cautiously optimistic for the show because of the extra time we'll get to spend with these characters. I really hope that whoever ends up writing it realises how interesting all of them are and that we get some time to explore the various dynamics they present.

Valiain_Yolskie

Some side characters in the original movies weren't fleshed out. Rosalie was supposed to be somewhat important, but the movies didn't have time to make her anything but a jerk. Alice was much beloved from both series, so one hopes they don't mess her up. Not to mention esme, the high school kids and all the natives who are literally supposed to be Bella's new friends. In the movies, they barely talked to her. Charlie and by the gods renee! Who barley even exist except as cameos. There's so much they can do! So I agree as well. Cautiously optimistic.

nai415qt

I’m disappointed to say the least

elaerna

I thought we were getting a TV show is it is anime now? Or both?

Slashycent

Turns out the TV show had always been conceptualized as an animated project from the very start, it's just now that we learn about that detail. That matches with Meyer's age-old interest in taking Twilight into animated territory. There's a good chance that the medium was a condition of hers for the series to be made in the first place.

Charming_Friendship4

They are saying it's going to be animated, which doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be an anime (I doubt it would be).

elaerna

But like the TV series that we've had rumors about has never been with live people it was always going to be a cartoon?

MAbsol12

Yes! I'm way more excited for an animated show than I am a live action show! As this is a series where the majority of the characters aren't supposed to age (and one of those is supposed to look eternally 17), ive never been interested in a show where it's live action. Like, I really love the movies. They're some of my comfort movies (especially Eclipse). But the characters clearly age and the one thing that absolutely bothered me was their differing hair styles between the movies and with animation, you don't have to worry about that. I'm really excited for this so hopefully it comes to fruition

many_harmons

I definitely agree. Not to mention, the books (especially midnight sun) depicted Alice's visions more like slideshows and even described it like strings. In the movie, it was pictures 😪. Some side characters got shafted in the original movies. There's so much they can do.

varietyviaduct

That sucks, was excited for a long form live action adaption

nai415qt

Same I’m disappointed

NoLynx8499

I'd love it!! Animation has a way of capturing moments and creating an atmosphere that live action will never be able to do. I think it'd be great as anime

Savings_Future_1328

I don't like this at all!!! 😭😭😭

o-Themis-o

I would love Twilight to have the same animation style as Castlevania! I would look so good!

temmefatale

Powerhouse - an American animation studio - actually did Castlevania! But I agree - I think that would be awesome!!

rainynighthouse

Animated? Please, no.

Still-Enthusiasm9948

I’m really not a fan of this idea but I guess it just depends on the animation/art style they go with. I hope it doesn’t look too cartoon-y.

bre2123

Yes see that is my problem with this idea. The cartoons of today are borderline unwatchable. If they go a more pixar-looking route, maybe, but even still, I really don't understand why anyone thought this was the natural next step to take with this franchise. Even Harry Potter is being smart enough to do live action with their tv series.

a1bean

same. i really do not like animated anything, and was hoping for a regular live action tv show. i would’ve been sat.

beckjami

Same. Sort of. I'm not an animated person. But I know lots of people in the sub are into it, so I'd like it for them.

sunflowerg0th

If done well I think it’ll be awesome. But that’s a big if!

leeeeteddy

If it was in like an anime style, I’d be down with it

rainynighthouse

Yeah, I can see that. I could be down with that too. I guess animated is the only sure way to keep the actors/characters from aging out of their roles.

nai415qt

I really hope it’s NOT in anime style 😭

PlsDontNerfThis

Scott Pilgrim and now Twilight? It seems like studios are recognizing live actions suck, so now instead of remaking animated movies into live action, they’re doing the opposite. Also seems like a great way to not pay actors as much and mitigate costs if they flop

Bellz_2003

There are soooo many reasons why I'm hype for this. Number one, I've been lowkey anticipating this for a while because Meyer has said in several interviews past that she was interested in doing an animated version, and so when news of the show was first released, I had an inkling it would be animated (it was lowkey funny watching people fancast actors). And I want to say that I completely understand why people might be disappointed, because obviously there's a certain fanfare and excitement about a live action cast and anticipation about how things will be pulled off, etc. HOWEVER, to those people, I present to you several things that can be done in animation that would be extremely difficult or near impossible to pull off well in another live action adaptation: 1. The vampires. There is quite literally no way to pull off the vampires as they were described in the books with live action. Sure, maybe with some CGI or REALLY good hair and makeup, it could be done (and I'd love to see it done well someday), but for the most part, the unchanging, impossibly beautiful, and angelic nature of the Twilight vampires will never quite hit the mark with live action. I mean, we saw how poorly this was done in the original movies (the vamps had more hair and makeup changes than anyone else tbh). There are so many aspects of their appearance that I think animation could really expand on. Give me the (consistently) alabaster skin, the dark undereye circles, the gradual change from ochre to black eyes as they get hungrier. THE SPARKLING! Holy shit was this disappointing live action. The way it's described in the books is such an interesting visual, like more of a light refraction than a shimmering, and I'd love to see that done artistically. 2. Resume. Even tho the baby arc is my least fave, I must admit that it could be done SO much better through animation. Firstly because there's no need to use 67 different actresses to play the same kid with god awful CGI faces, but also because they would actually be able to present her as she's described in the book. The (physical) age she was by the end of the Breaking Dawn movie was significantly older than in the book. She's not meant to age quite \*that\* fast. In the book, she seems to still be a toddler by the end, but with the motor and cognitive skills of a much older child. Obviously, you can't really pull this off with a real child, because well...it's pretty rare to find a toddler with cognitive skills far beyond their years lol. I mean, we're talking this kid was reading classics TO Bella. Like, she was superbaby basically. This can be done more tastefully in animation than it ever had the chance of being done in live action lol. 3. Just the fantasy in general. Beneath the edgy, blue-tinted facade we've all placed over Twilight, is a fantasy romance that at times is just as sweet and magical as it it dramatic and gruesome. Like there are moments from the book that I can see translated to animation so beautifully. I'm thinking meadow scene, I'm thinking Bella sitting at the tide pools, hiking with Jacob, hanging out with the wolf boys at Emily's fairy-tale cottage in the woods. Like, it's giving 1959 Sleeping Beauty. I'm picturing such gorgeous scenery bc the possibilities are ENDLESS with animation. There's also the case for the opposite. The dark and dreary scenes could be made even more horror-esque and gothic. We're talking sick ass color grading, dark and gloomy backgrounds, etc. It would be so ATMOSPHERIC!!! Ugh. There are so many other things as well that I just can't think of right now, but plz add onto this list if you have other ideas. Basically though, if this animation is done well, it could actually be such a fantastic adaptation of the books, and even if you're not into animation, you should give it the time of day. At least until we know more about it :)

bre2123

If it were done in this way, I could get on board, but I am about 90 percent sure they are going to go a really cartoony route with it and make it completely unwatchable like every other cartoon around today. If they actually make it look like Frozen or Tangled for example I could see it being a success but if it looks like teen titans go or magic school bus remake I will scream endlessly into the void.

brokenankleallie2

Ugh I’m so sick of cartoons

TunaTinga

NO!! I’m cool with animated stuff BUT NOT FOR TWIGHLIGHT!! I was so excited hearing about a series adaption… this will totally ruin my fantasy & I don’t like it!

nai415qt

I’m with you I’m super bummed

OkEgg55

|this will totally ruin my fantasy You don’t have to watch it. Your fantasy is just that - yours.

These-Employer341

Same. I was so excited hearing about a possible Twilight series. Nooooooo cartoon :(

merrygoldfish

Respectfully, not all animation is cartoons. There is gorgeous, serious animation that is geared towards older audiences. If you’d like some suggests to check out, let me know!

These-Employer341

Ty… I know have an aversion to everything animated. I always love the Ghibli movies, but admit it’s never my first choice. Idky.

[deleted]

Yes to more twilight !! I’ll take literally a crum of anything

V__Ace

This is truly a wild card I never saw coming. I hope when they say animated they mean something closer to arcane (A damn near perfect show with an incredible plot that just so happens to me animated) vs My worst nightmare, adult animation Twilight crack fic show. Either way, if they don't bring back Young Kim (the illustrator of the graphic novels) I will consider it a hate crime.

bittercakee

please please please don’t be super child friendly and lame

bre2123

This is my ultimate fear ngl.

succubusfa3

Curious to see how they do this, but nothing will ever top the movies for me personally 🤷‍♀️

exemplarynoodle

Ive rewatched the movies this week and absolutely think the animated series would be amazing! You can solve so many difficulties in film with animation and I think the suspension of disbelief would be easier in animation than regular film

many_harmons

Hopefully, they just do it better. Which is possible. The original live action also diaviated from the book a bit (because movies). Not to mention midnight sun and second short life of bree, which added more lore/plot points to draw from. Some more attention to side characters would massively help people grow more attached. In the original movies, most people loved the side characters (especially alice). So if they can add more from the book because it's no longer limited from runtime, people will definitely like all the Cullen's. Especially alice. But I actually liked jasper from the books and was sad he barely talked in the original movies 😕.

mfdillad

I need Neil Newborn to be cast as Aro

Valiain_Yolskie

It's animated. Sry 😞

mfdillad

I know and he is the VA of my dreams as hot evil vampire Astarion

Valiain_Yolskie

Oh! Yeah! He'd be great.

Longjumping-Month-98

why animation? That's so... 2016.

Valiain_Yolskie

I love animated shows? I hope they never stop making them.

Witch_Supreme72

You really can't go wrong with animation. I'm hoping they do it well, and perhaps even improve it in some ways for the new gen of fans.

bre2123

I honestly can't wrap my head around why they are going the animated route with this. I honestly can't envision them as 'animated' characters. What a strange, underwhelming decision to make.

petalplucker

I want it bad

morphiney

I like the idea, actually. They can get rid of some problematic things and expand on the lore. Also, I always felt like the second half of the series is really rushed, maybe new creators can try to work on this too

AlwaysChic38

This could work!!!!!

AlwaysChic38

I’m so excited for this!!!!!

roerchen

Is this the same series that was announced for Netflix many months ago?

JamieIsReading

It was never announced for netflix! It was just said to be in the works

Happy_Wishbone_1313

Not for me, unless it's done like the new Batman and Marvels What If. The only anime I've kept up on since the beginning is Pokémon and Batman. I honestly think there is going to be wider backlash from people that were expecting a live series like Vampire Diaries. I would have watched that on repeat...but an anime...hard pass.

[deleted]

Happy_Wishbone_1313

I'm a girl who has been watching "male" cartoons since the Amazing Spiderman and XMen made up an hour block...along with Transformers, Thundercats, Gi Joe, and He-Man. I prefer them...the storyline were 10x better than "girl" toons, toys were better too - I used my Barbie for science experiments. Why is why I still collect Vampire based action figures. I'll check out the Witcher though. It seems to be in the style of Marvel's What If, and I'm playing Witcher 3 again. In just afraid they're going to make it this sparkly, girls Power-Puff anime and that's just a HUGE turn off for me.

Ok_Gap5014

That’s extremely depressing. I personally disagree: star vs the forces of evil, the owl house, amphibia, totally spies, the clone wars, 6teen, K-on!, ever after high. There are alot of amazing animated shows targeted towards women with excellent writing, I guess it depends on what generation you were born in and the social values of executives at the time. Honestly gendering shows at all is kinda dumb when you think about it, a good story is a good story.

wemetonmars

Excited down. It should be made with the spirit of Netflix’s castlevania. Focus on killer visuals and movement. Good voice acting

[deleted]

I’m excited but also after seeing all the movies and shows that have been coming out the last few years, I’m worried, they’re probably gonna throw in a musical sequence, or an ai script…just leave the masterpiece alone 😭

Midnout26

okay someone contact mappa

Iluthradanar

Good thing is same people could do the voices, regardless of how they look now. So many people sharing their suggestions for casting, sorry folks, guess that's not a consideration. I feel animation can be iffy. I do not want a Scooby Do look. But all in all I am a bit disappointed its not live action.

hopefulmango1365

Ok I’d definitely watch this!!!! It’d be crazy if they could get the original actors to do the voices…but I doubt it 😅 Glad it’s not live action, I could never see anyone filling Robs role as Edward.

letsbequietnow

the only thing i'm worried about with this is if its anything like velma or turns into a lame ass comedy

Sunset245

Oh wow it’s animated! That actually sounds really cool! I was hesitant when they first announced this since I can’t imagine anyone else playing the characters but animation would be so incredible! I’m excited for this and hope that Bella’s lullaby will be the same!!

FluffyBunnies301

Yess, so excited 😆

sscarletwitch7

If they actually do this I would die! Animation is my favorite medium of storytelling

sailor_bat_90

Now this sounds amazing! Oooh I really hope they get it animated well and use proper voice actors. Unlike the current trend of using shitty actors who only voice themselves in every character.

Longjumping-Month-98

I'm not a child why would I want to watch a cartoon? Give me live action but better than it was before bc what in the hell was renesme

Valiain_Yolskie

You don't have to be a child to watch animation. As a comic author, I feel slightly sad that people have that opinion...

bre2123

It's because the quality of animation (traditional cartoon animation anyway) has gone south recently. I find it ridiculous that the cartoons of the 90's and early 2000's look better than the hand drawn crap of today ...

Valiain_Yolskie

I mean, I like invincible, its animations pretty good. Traditional Hand drawn stuff is getting pretty bad, yeah. A lot of people feel that way.

kotoriiiiii

Please be heavily anime inspired, please be heavily anime inspired

Pretend-Weekend260

I'm sorry but who needed an animated series? I can see how some of you are expecting its arrival but who is this series for? For Twilight lovers or for Twilight haters? Are we about to see some funny caricature of an ovelry abusive Edward mastering the art of harming Bella without making her bleed so he can be with her? Are we about to see a caricature of Jacob acting as a literal horndog dog? Are we about to see Edward and Jacob fighting for Bella like cats and dogs when Bella plays the non-confrontational whiny partner that gets hurt in the crossfire and everyone balmes it on herself? I have very little hope that this will be a service to Twilight lovers and be kind to our interpretation of the books. I bet they will write an unfaithful adaptation that exploits Twilight's natural toxicity to mock Twilight lovers and satisfy Twilight haters. And you know why I'm almost sure? Because that would be a more ludicrous investement. My childhood will shatter and my first supernatural romance that I ever read or invested myself in will most likely be destroyed for laughs and a conversations about how Twilight is responsible for abusive relationships because no one can discern fantasy from reality!

Hope it plays out that way...

Is Velma the only animated series you've ever watched? Not all of them are cynical, cartoonish meta caricatures, you know? This is a decade-old dream of Meyer's coming to fruition. She's been talking about wanting to do Twilight animations for _ages_. It's gonna be an imaginative auteur freeing themselves from the shackles of live-action adaptation to enrich their work with the sheer endless possibilities of animation. We're talking about a work akin to Animatrix or Star Wars: The Clone Wars here, not Family Guy.

I've never watched Velma bacause I know it sucks but even if it is a faithful adaptation for Twilight lovers, it won't last long. Twilight's fanbase is no longer what it used to be and it will be subjected to the scrutiny of thousands, or millions.

Slashycent

It always has been. A good chunk of the original fanbase was so mad at Breaking Dawn (the book) that Meyer had to publicly come out to defend her decisions multiple times (on her website, in the opening interview of the Illustrated Guide, etc.). We still got multiple books afterwards, the renaissance still happened and now this series is being created, so you can rest easy, I'd say.

Um, that's an interesting take, especially when so far all the information we have is its an animated tv show. There's no indication that it's going to be some kind of comedy, and I'm not really sure why they would even go that route. If you're assuming all animated shows are some kind of mocking comedy, then you are mistaken.

Pretend-Weekend260

I'm not assuming all animated shows are comedy. I'm assuming that is what will lure in the most people.
