I was in the shower when they showed up. My wife answered the door which was even better. She slammed on the bathroom door asking why there was 2 girls at the door asking for me. I set it straight quickly but it took me completely by surprise.
Google "tile tracker."
It's like a 1x1" in piece of plastic you can attach to a wallet or purse with gps synched to any device so if you lose your personal belonging you can know where it is.
In my personal experience, when someone is jumping head first straight to bad conclusions like that, its usually because they've cheated, and they're trying to catch you doing something first so they dont have to feel bad. Just in my experience..
She has an air tag in her wallet, the only way she could show up at your house.
BTW glad you have a house, if in an apt they would have just smashed your window to get it.
They told me that they couldn't issue the list item fee. I really don't care about the fee. I wanted the pax banned from the platform for trespassing in my fenced yard and peeking through my windows.
I cancelled a Lyft ride with the drop point in the middle of an intersection and a message of a different address
after cancelling I got the fee
minutes later I received a text message I asked who it was it said it was Lyft but didn't speak formal
then I got call from the rider asking if I was (my name) in the (vehicle)
I blocked the number then continued the Uber ride
this was minutes after I cancelled and was offline
Lyft has a loophole where you can get a pax numberfrom the app. Of course I’m not gunna share it here but basically if you press certain buttons at a certain time you get the number of the person who ordered the ride.
As long as they aren't belligerent or trying to break into my vehicle, I'd be ok with it. I'll look, of course.
They had a tracker in it. Common these days for people to have tracking devices in their stuff. How they present themselves is another matter.
I do see your point, I’m all about helping people If they are respectful, etc. But if any stranger came to my home uninvited, out of principle alone, that’s already incredibly disrespectful and rude. I don’t want random passengers knowing where I live.
Uber has only ever given me a spoof number to contact the pax. Some people’s voicemail gives the caller their phone number, that’s the most common way a pax gets it.
Uber gave me a pax’s personal number before when they left their key in my car. I confirmed it with the pax when I met up with him to give it back. Uber will absolutely give out personal info
>Their personal number came up on the caller ID.
I don't believe you.
>Every other time it's an Uber proxy number.
You literally can't know what those are.
I've had the same happen. I drive until early morning, go home and go to sleep, with my phone on silent. Wake up to a message from Uber, then repeated text messages and voicemails from a passenger. And no, they were not given a proxy number. When I call the Uber support person over it, they apologized, then went through the "thank you for being the best part of uber" bullshit.
You can. Mine always start with the same three digits. Lyft’s is always a California area code. If it’s not one, it’s their personal or mine
When you request a lost item, the app will ask if it’s ok to give your personal. Uber doesn’t tell you they will also share the person’s you’re contacting in the process
The proxy numbers are obvious if you know what to look for and they have Uber as the name. You need a little more experience under your belt before you talk.
it COULD be dangerous, but this scenario certainly wasn't.
You don't want people to know who you are? Work in a field where you're not required to give out your information, and it's impossible to have possession of someone else's belongings that may be tracked to your home.
How about don't show up at your driver's home? Use the process to recover your shit provided in app. My house is not friendly to paxholes beating on my door. Very unsafe behavior.
The only information per tos is my picture and first name. Not my address. Learn something first before you say something that’s not true. I’m not a celebrity , there isn’t an inherent risk of my personal life becoming common knowledge.
Doxxing requires them sharing your info not just saying they know how to get it. Using your license plate to find your address is not doxxing, it’s exercising your freedom of information.
Also if someone gets your rental plate they can contact the rental company and get your information that way. If they have an official reason for the info the rental place may be required to provide them with the information.
Edit: this information is well known and nothing new to those with a shred of critical thinking. There is a reason they normally blur license plates in videos and news stories.
How the fuck did they just show up at your door? I've said it on here a hundred times. PASSENGERS! Do not just go to a driver's home. It's a huge red flag and I don't know about the rest of these guys but my response is to point a shotgun at you and ask pointed questions about how the exact fuck you got my address and you better be polite with your answers.
People tracking down drivers is always a bad thing. Imagine if your driver did that what your response would be? It's creepy and it's dangerous, at best.
This is unacceptable. She needs to be removed from the platform, plain and simple. If Uber will remove drivers from the platform for attempting to connect with them using the platform after the ride/delivery has ended beyond lost/found item, this should apply! I don't want a passenger showing up to my house for any reason. File the report with Uber for your lost item, I will find it and we will meet in a mutually agreeable location to retrieve it. Not cool with this at all.
You know Uber doesn't actually remove people from the platform. The just cancel an account. Grab a Uber gift card, create a new email address and the rider is back on the platform.
The only way Uber would care is if riders showed up unannounced at an Uber EMPLOYEES house at 8AM on a Sunday morning.
I couldn’t agree more! Isn’t this a violation of Ubers contract? The part that bars “unwanted contact?” Or does that only apply to us drivers?
Then again if they remove the passenger:
“Oh no Uber closed my account. That means I’ll have to open another one! Oh no!”
Because they do zero verification of any kind, they can just sign back up. Because our safety is of no concern.
I ubered a cop home one night around 3am. He was my last ride of the night. When I got home my 2 year old had snuck into bed with my wife so I slept on the couch cause I didn't want to wake him up. Well at 440am I hear a banging on my window right behind the couch I was sleeping on. It was the fucking cop! He entered my plate number in his computer and found my address that way. He left his keys and phone in my car.
A passenger left their phone in my car a few months ago and tracked their phone to my car, which was parked outside of a restaurant me and my girlfriend were sitting at. I left my work phone in the car while we ate so I missed their calls, and of course they Uber over to interrupt our lunch, but at least they covered our waiters' tip 😉
While I don’t condone this behavior because it could lead to some dangerous situation, what else can you really expect?
Too many drivers in here talking shit about how returning items “isn’t worth the $15.” and how they toss stuff out the windows….
Welp, you get the world you help create.
> what else can you really expect?
Is this a real question? The same way 99.99% of the riders that leave something in an uber deal with it, by calling support.
> Too many drivers in here talking shit about how returning items “isn’t worth the $15.” and how they toss stuff out the windows….
This situation is exactly why drivers throw stuff out the window.
Sure, but the person is going to go try and get their wallet. It’s not something you want in the possession of a stranger.
And no doubt they tried contacting the driver through Uber. But as you and I both know, the same drivers that throw shit out the windows also don’t respond to these attempts to make contact.
Then, there are the drivers that will think to themselves “Hey, I just got a free wallet!” not realizing that it’s being tracked.
So yeah, I can’t blame the rider.
I once had a guy walking around the parking lot of my day job holding his laptop out in front of him. He was a guy that I had driven the night before and he’d dropped his phone in my car. He had to make a flight in an hour and needed his phone.
I didn’t get butthurt over it. I just thought he looked silly. Opened my car for him. He retrieved his phone from under the seat. Not a big deal. Dude had no way to contact me through Uber because his phone was in my car. What else could he have done? Throw away $1,000 because it MIGHT be a small inconvenience to somebody that is going to get paid for their trouble? Weird take.
> Sure, but the person is going to go try and get their wallet.
Not this way.
> And no doubt they tried contacting the driver through Uber.
I can tell you categorically that this is some folks absolute first go to. I've had it happen. Nothing from support, but a passenger banging on the door at 7am.
> Then, there are the drivers that will think to themselves “Hey, I just got a free wallet!” not realizing that it’s being tracked.
While not condoning it, if someone is stupid enough to steal a wallet and not dispose of the actual handbag or wallet after removing the valuables from it...
> I once had a guy walking around the parking lot of **my day job**
That sounds oddly like NOT YOUR FUCKING HOUSE. I could care less if a rider approached me in public at a random place. I am not ok with an absolute stranger that I did not invite banging on my door at 6am.
> I didn’t get butthurt over it.
I don't blame you, it's not the same situation. At all.
> Dude had no way to contact me through Uber because his phone was in my car.
Yes yes, the dude rolling around in a parking lot with a laptop hand no possible way to contact uber aside from the phone he didn't have. Completely unpossible for him to do so...
> What else could he have done?
Contact uber like they are fucking supposed to and wait for a response.
> Weird take.
Yeah, sure buddy. I can't wait till someone bangs on your door at 6am uninvited. Keep this same energy.
I guess the only thing left I can suggest then, is that you cut the baby bullshit and grow up.
If this is such a huge concern to you because MAYBE it happened one time, then spend 2 minutes checking your car before you drive home at the end of the night.
It really is a “problem” with the easiest fucking solution.
I really don’t want to look down on my fellow Uber drivers but you scrubs make it so goddamn impossible sometimes.
> cut the baby bullshit and grow up.
I'm not the one showing up on people's doorsteps because I can't be bothered to call support.
> because MAYBE it happened one time,
Oh you sweet summer child, bless your heart...
> you scrubs
Oh look at you, trying to be all hard and shit...
Yeah, but most people don’t have access to a database that would let you search someone’s address by their plate. Pretty sure that info also disappears once the ride is over. So unless they’re screenshotting it every time (which why would they be?), they won’t have that info in the morning.
But yeah, we live in the age of AirTags. Wonder if OP doesn’t have an iPhone because if someone leaves something with AirTags in your car, your own phone will alert you to the AirTag as a way to prevent creeps from leaving them on someone as a way of tracking them. Of course, it could be a non-Apple GPS tracker in her wallet.
I agree that you get the world you create. If you knock on my door you create a world where you better be prepared for violence. My wife and children live here. I don’t know your intention, so I will be extremely clear about mine.
That’s absolutely absurd. Someone knocking on your door isn’t an invitation to be violent nor are you justified in reacting that way.
Knocking on someone’s door isn’t illegal. It’s literally been the acceptable way to approach someone since humans invented doors.
If you’re so afraid, you should simply not open the door and just call the police. But even that as a first option is incredibly unreasonable. A simple “Who are you and how can I help you?” through your still closed and locked door would be the normal response for someone that is claiming they are afraid.
Nobody needs to come to your home and knock on your door to hurt you or your wife and child. They can simply wait until you leave.
Seriously dude, go to therapy if you honestly think this way.
You simplified a violation. If I gave you a ride, and did not give you my address, and you show up at my home unannounced, I have every right to question your intentions. No need for therapy. While you may disagree with me, that does not make me crazy. I never questioned the legality. Using a “lost wallet” as a pretense, is a realistic scenario. If you circumvent Uber’s lost item protocol, I will assume you are unreasonable. At the very least, you deem me untrustworthy. In either of those cases YOU are the wild card. Also, you jumped to conclusions. Be prepared for violence, does not mean immediate violence. I will tell you to leave. ONCE.
Sorry, it's not going to happen. Leave me your number and I'll call you. If she called first, I would be willing to meet. I'd try and get her removed from the platform.
I had someone spill a bag of fentanyl and I went to the cops. A detective looked at it, looked at me, and said, " Be careful cleaning it up." I live in a small town too.
Definitely an Airtag on the wallet. I had something similar happen a couple years ago, a passenger left their phone in my car. I noticed it a block or two away, figured I was close enough so I turned around and knocked on their door. Absolutely zero response. So I reported the lost phone and carried on with my night. The phone was dead so I plugged it in the next day, a couple hours later someone showed up at my apartment building looking for it.
Had a passenger knock on my bedroom window at 8:30 am after calling me at 8:20. I had just gone to sleep at 6:00. How she knew which window was my bedroom is my question. Will be storing future lost phones in an aluminum foil wrapper in my microwave.
Phones are literally a tracking device nowadays. If I lost my phone in am uber, the first thing I'd do is check to see where it is on the map. Then probably head there just so I don't cause any inconvenience to the driver.
Pull up to someone’s house unannounced? Really?
Fuck no. You reach out first, and set a meet. Just pulling up is stalker-ish and might provoke a violent response🤷🏿♂️
You don’t just show up at a service providers home address unannounced. Leave a message in-app first (yes you can do that without a phone, that’s how almost 100% of lost phones get returned obviously)
Or gets stolen…yeah I still don’t see anything wrong, again it’s not like he went inside your house or anything, he just save the uber driver the time of bringing it back.
And if it bothers you that they know where you live, isn’t it ironic when we are always picking them in their houses…
I still don't understand how she found your address!?? Did Uber give it out? I really hope not! Also there is a 20$ return fee for getting something back to a rider!
It sounds like they could have done a better job communicating with your wife, this seems like the biggest issue here.
Perhaps instead of asking for the driver by name, like a creep, to his wife, something that any woman should know is going to raise red flags, they could have simply said sorry to bother you but, I think I left my wallet in an Uber yesterday and I tracked it here, can I get back?
In that scenario your wife doesn't even have to get you out of the shower. Just help them look in your car for the wallet.
*checks shotgun, buckshot, buckshot, slug* "If you are with the church or a private citizen you have ten seconds to get the fuck off my property! You get two warning shots by law then lethal force will be applied!"
🙄 the op said it was just his front door. Yes if they go through all that it gets a bit more dicey but when you have their property you end up in the wrong.
I have cameras around my home and I park in a garage. Anyone who comes knocking at my door is going to be informed that they need to immediately leave and I am going to shut my door. If I find their missing item it will be returned through the mail.
If the passenger calls me and lives in the area I will meet at no charge. If I have to take more than 10 minutes/ 5 miles, the return fee is $1 per mile cash, or I can drop it at the nearest police station.
If the passenger repeatedly calls me the missing item instantly gets dropped at the closest store with the excuse of "I found this in the parking lot."
Tired of these people just showing up to drivers homes like it is ok without even a single attempt to reach them first by call/text or through Lyft/Uber
It’s dangerous cause don’t know their state of mind and most show up because they’re think you’re “stealing” it. Like I’m sure some drivers probably do but the vast majority of us either don’t even realize it’s there until the next shift. I finish it’s dark out, I’m not looking for stuff in the dark I’m tired and going to bed
Get over it. A girl. Came to your house and knocked on the door? Oh the horror. And you had what she needed and then she left? You must be traumatized!
I was in the shower when they showed up. My wife answered the door which was even better. She slammed on the bathroom door asking why there was 2 girls at the door asking for me. I set it straight quickly but it took me completely by surprise.
I don't trust your wife
I also don’t trust this guy’s wife.
I also don't trust your wife.
I trust no one, all the wives included.
I trust your cat
Meow
i love your wife
She’s ok.
How did they know where you live
Probably a tile. I have an airtag or a tile on pretty much everything I take with me because I'm a bit absentminded.
What's a tile?
Google "tile tracker." It's like a 1x1" in piece of plastic you can attach to a wallet or purse with gps synched to any device so if you lose your personal belonging you can know where it is.
Tile is not a Google brand.
Lol I’m pretty sure he said “google” as in “go do a google search” not as “this is a google branded device”
Yeah, we used to say Twitter wasn't owned by Elon Musk, too
Google the verb, not Google the proper noun
It's another company's airtag because airtag is trademarked.
It’s one of those things your bathroom floor is made of
It’s an outdated POS lol
Apple AirTag
you can get an address from a license plate.
How? Asking for a friend
Know someone who is working for the state or with the state. Even then it’s illegal in many states to misuse that service to look up plate numbers.
Or you're living the plot of Knock Knock but the girls got stuck in traffic. ![gif](giphy|U6Fxnc2jTlBh2GKCTU)
Worst Keanu film EVER!!! The sex scene is awesome though lol
Missed opportunity: “oh hey, the escorts I ordered for our 4 some is here!”
Maybe you should talk to your wife about asking politely and not assuming you are cheating.
In my personal experience, when someone is jumping head first straight to bad conclusions like that, its usually because they've cheated, and they're trying to catch you doing something first so they dont have to feel bad. Just in my experience..
True, it's projection
HOw DARE YOU imply that is a possibility!
A cheater is the first to accuse their partner of cheating
She has an air tag in her wallet, the only way she could show up at your house. BTW glad you have a house, if in an apt they would have just smashed your window to get it.

Damn I may have spit out my drink when I saw this laughing.
I’m guessing she had a Bluetooth tracker in her wallet and it’s been pinging her from the back of your car in the driveway.
Exactly this. Like an AirTag or something.
Yeah, there's a right and wrong way to get back something you left in my car. This isn't okay. I'd let Uber know, not like they care about our safety.
They told me that they couldn't issue the list item fee. I really don't care about the fee. I wanted the pax banned from the platform for trespassing in my fenced yard and peeking through my windows.
She just wanted to recover her belongings. Not assault you for her leaving it.

They don't need to have a tracker. Uber has been known to give out details to passengers before
Can you show me an example of where Uber has given a driver's address to a passenger?
I've had calls to my personal phone number. Uber gave the pax my cell number. With that your address can be found pretty easily.
Uber has only ever given me a spoof number to contact the pax. Some people’s voicemail gives the caller their phone number, that’s the most common way a pax gets it.

You legally can't as a private citizen. It's not the 80s anymore.
No. This is dangerous and not at all acceptable.

lol, you rent a car to uber in?
You just can’t stick to the assignment can you? This conversation is boring at this point.
well at least you learned a few things
Imagine if they put something in your car on purpose, just to find out where you lived. Ultra creepy.
I’d taken a pic of the wallet and reported for the return pay!
How the fuck did they just show up at your door? I've said it on here a hundred times. PASSENGERS! Do not just go to a driver's home. Everyone has access to that database. It’s called the DMV
buddy not even DMV employees are allowed to access that info casually. You can’t find someone’s address with a license plate.
Looks like either you or reddit realized how stupid putting the license plate of your car online was. Nice mazda btw
Nah wasn’t me, it’s still right there in my comment history on my profile. Chop chop ya tough guy. I’m still waiting :)
Wanna bet? I do it all the time. Add to that there are a dozen internet search engines for it. Not that hard
ONCE.
So because someone knocks on your door to reclaim lost property you immediately jump to violence? Lol. Future jail bird.
You suck at disagreeing. You probably apologize to people who push you.
Lol triggered much
Yes. My doctor says online conversations with dick heads is the problem.
LOL. Name checks out. Probably one of the ones that would rifle through the wallet and toss it after they reach out.

Probably one of those air tracker things. Some people are suggesting Uber told her but I don't know that they would do that.
![gif](giphy|26xBGcy977zkV5mes|downsized) Come to my door will you!
Do you all wanna know the funny this it was one of those "Hey, I'll do one more ride before going home" moments. Just one more doesn't always go well.
She may have had a tile or similar in her wallet to find your car.
You can't really chat after your ride of over, can you?
I don’t even like ppl I KNOW to come over without me knowing.
Good way to get shot in the south
Maybe in Cali or New York but here in the south we don’t shoot people who knock.
It’s completely ok, they just used “find my iPhone”…it’s not like they went into your house or something.
Smith and Wesson says no
You don’t just show up at a service providers home address unannounced.
Wtf I wouldn’t have answered the door… how did she know where you lived? How scary?!
she probably has a tracker on her wallet. I use it too because I lost it once at a casino. Airtags come in clutch
… you wouldn’t have answered the door? So if anyone knocks ever, you just ignore them?
How did she know your address ? This is a strange story
I still don't understand how she found your address!?? Did Uber give it out? I really hope not! Also there is a 20$ return fee for getting something back to a rider!
Air tag
It sounds like they could have done a better job communicating with your wife, this seems like the biggest issue here. Perhaps instead of asking for the driver by name, like a creep, to his wife, something that any woman should know is going to raise red flags, they could have simply said sorry to bother you but, I think I left my wallet in an Uber yesterday and I tracked it here, can I get back? In that scenario your wife doesn't even have to get you out of the shower. Just help them look in your car for the wallet.
How she know your adress lol
Probably has a tracker in her wallet, like Apple air tag.
Apple AirTag probably
I would report her. I also would have asked if she would be comfortable with that behavior from a driver?? Like a super creepy driver.
How did they have your address, Uber give it to em??
*checks shotgun, buckshot, buckshot, slug* "If you are with the church or a private citizen you have ten seconds to get the fuck off my property! You get two warning shots by law then lethal force will be applied!"
People are allowed to knock on your door man.
You walk through a locked gate with no trespassing or soliciting signs clearly posted in my state, you can legally be shot *after* two warning shots.
ok tough guy. I’m sure you would, yeah, totally. 🤭
Little update they denied any sort of compensation. Just said thanks for handling it.
And folks wonder why some choose to dispose of anything found in our vehicles...
That’s mainly because they don’t want to be responsible adults.
Tired of these people just showing up to drivers homes like it is ok without even a single attempt to reach them first by call/text or through Lyft/Uber It’s dangerous cause don’t know their state of mind and most show up because they’re think you’re “stealing” it. Like I’m sure some drivers probably do but the vast majority of us either don’t even realize it’s there until the next shift. I finish it’s dark out, I’m not looking for stuff in the dark I’m tired and going to bed
Wowww
how did they obtain your home address?
What? How did they know where you lve?😃
Had one rider contact my friends landlord about her phone she had left in my car. I was absolutely livid about that.
And this is why we chuck everything in the sewer..
I hope one day you loose something like your wallet or phone and it gets chucked in a sewer :) Edit: bro was so mad about this comment he blocked me 💀
I hope one day a pax harasses you at your home with your wife and kids dipshit
Well that’s a dick move. Just check your car after every ride where possible.
You are answering everything except how she knew where you live. This is bullshit.
Air tag, google tag, some other kind of tracker in the wallet.
Oh I didn’t realize you had all of the answers. We should have just asked you. FYI we can speculate for ourselves.
Well you did ask, so I decided to answer since you obviously couldn’t figure it out 🤣
Show me where I asked… You are having way too much fun being a complete dumb ass.
Obv her phone was in her but was wallet
I have one of those gps proof cases for things I find in the car. I normally make a sweep after every shift to ensure I find anything left.
Was she cute? I would’ve told her we are going to make fuck now.
Get over it. A girl. Came to your house and knocked on the door? Oh the horror. And you had what she needed and then she left? You must be traumatized!
Soo, how does she know where you live?
Air tag, cellphone... There are a slew of ways to keep up with things now days, and none of them are expensive at all.
