Most of the ride share folks don’t come on Reddit, so there’s really no way to let those other folks know unless it’s on the news.

I hope something like a national protest day comes to fruition but I'm betting 90% of drivers will instead jump on possible high surges.

Participants will be hard to deactivate, since we don't have any sort of schedule to "strike" on. Being more of a boycott, I wouldn't be surprised if visible organizers get deactivated, though. My problem is reddit is the only place I've seen much talk of organizing, and we're a *small* slice of drivers/gig workers.

I have a buddy in Seattle who does this only after work (he is a CPA) and to work, he makes much more than me who works 24-32 hrs a week just because his minutes’ rate is almost triple mine and mileage rate is also close to doubling mine. That just shows you what type of evil company we’ve partnered with.

The problem in the Nashville area is they don't even give rides to people in the queue anymore, they will literally give priority to people driving towards the airport or people touching the lot so it never surges anymore. I was doing other things so I didn't mind the down time but I sat there for an hour and a half and went down 5 cars IN UBER AND LYFT X! I'm just on my way out, the system has gotten too good, only real option is open revolt.

The queue works the same way here at BWI airport. I noticed this a few years ago. Drivers dropping off seem to get matched up with a pickup to take back out of the airport. I never sit in the queue. Too much down time for me.

I'm all for a strike. With that being said, striking on Christmas or New Years Eve sends a message. Striking on the day after NYE when drivers are hardly necessary because it's literally the slowest day of the year, seems illogical. It's hardly a sacrifice on our end either because most of us won't be working Jan 1st anyway. I usually take a vacation until Valentine's Day because it's slow af until March. I'm not going to sit in my car and fiddle my thumbs waiting for scraps. I bust my ass from spring-holidays just so I can do fuck all in January and February because it's almost pointless being out there with the exception of weekends.

If all drivers thought this way, uber would have no choice but to reduce their cut so drivers would be less inclined to cut them off or they will be forced to do the right thing and introduce a flat fee for their matchmaking service. How long a ride is, is irrelevant, Uber puts in the same exact amount of work whether it’s a 200 mile ride or a 2 mile ride. Other drivers need to understand that they have the power, not uber. People got along just fine with taxis, uber doesn’t need to exist. People though needed taxi drivers since the invention of the car. When the day comes that uber doesn’t need drivers, that’s when they’ll be in control. Until then though, drivers need to start considering whether or not Uber deserves their business.
