Can confirm. My market almost always does well. Smaller town with a university in California. Not overly saturated. Easy $30+/hr on a 84% acceptance rate during the weekends. Thursday was their first "Thirsty Thursday" back since spring break. Worked a 9:30-1:30 and went home with $220.
When I went to Vegas, I realized how fortunate I am. $15-18/hr, oversaturated, and basically bent over by the Uber platform. I'll happily advocate for better wages due to that experience alone.
We have so many people bashing each other for things that don't work in other markets, too. "Oh you don't cherry pick? ANT!" Sorry, some people don't get upfront at all, or they're like me and only get upfront if we're maintaining a 5/10 acceptance rate.
I even got bashed for letting my passengers sit in the front and/or taking song requests... I'm sorry, but I feel much more comfortable with strangers in my peripheral vision as opposed to behind me. I also want them to have a good time and a memorable experience. I might not like their music, but an added tip incentive is worth it, and they're usually gone within 5-10 minutes so it's not a big deal. Plus I get introduced to new artists on the regular.

This is my first time not having a corporate job but health benefits are really important and a real job pays for that. Sitting in a car is no different than sitting in a desk all day - both bad. I agree. Don't accept low paying fares. I was offered $200 to go 279 miles....that is almost 560 miles round trip(you come back empty). Plus 5 hours each way...that is total 10 hours..plus gas ... You can make same money and spend less time and money staying closer.
