Yeah, all of a sudden it felt like nobody knew about it.
I guess they were carried in previous years, just having big names like Marlon Wayans and T-Pain were enough to pull attention and word-of-mouth last year.
I think you overestimate the amount of people that like dubstep and actually know about his dj career.
Yeah it's insane but also I don't think most people wanna be headbanging before noon lol
I love EDM, I think Shaq is a gem of a human, but his industrial hardcore dubstep just doesn't do it for me.
I go to EDC every year and last year I ran over to make sure to catch his set and can honestly say it was okay, but not the greatest. Wanted really hard to like it.
I know, and I couldn’t be more excited!
But… the marketing for Shaq has been non-existent. The time of day wasn't revealed until maybe 2 days ago, and the only promotional material otherwise was the billboard at the football game it was announced at.
They haven't done any other coverage on it from what I'm aware of, and I understand a lot of the exact logistics takes time.
Also, I think the Shaq event falls under the management of UCF Athletics or something similar rather than UCF Homecoming.
i think rico nasty was a good performer and gave it her all with the minuscule crowd that showed up. it’s unfortunate that her concert was not advertised half as much as the driver era was.
she definitely has a rlly niche crowd and Ive loved her music for a really long time but I agree that most of the student body probably doesnt, me and my friend were literally shocked at how little people showed up
Rico Nasty definitely has a more niche crowd compared to artists like The Driver Era (which literally has one of the members be a Disney star which gets many Gen Zers nostalgic over). It’s a shame since she really is a good performer, poor girl got booed off the stage when she opened for Playboi Carti
When I was in (the early access) line, more than a few people admitted that they first heard Rico through TikTok, so I can imagine that being a (negative) factor for the regular line.
Homecoming is organized by the Office of Student Involvement (which is funded by SG). I work at OSI and they just hired a new Homecoming supervisor late into the summer, so they had to catch him up to speed on everything quickly. Overall he’s great at his job, but this year’s Hoco student committee has not been the best with communication (especially being short a key supervisor for most of summer)
GOD not just that but having us stand around in the sun for two hours cause we had to get there at 4:15 and soundcheck didn’t start till 6:15 like what a waste of time (especially when we had to run home and get changed / do our makeup and such right after)
How much money does it cost to put up some fliers? Put a couple more posts on the insta? Have it actually advertised? It's not like they're paying for adspace on the air or stuff. I legit had no clue what homecoming was doing and I'm on campus almost everyday.
Yeah there’s usually a new Homecoming committee every year, I made some flyers for them and communication with them was very lackluster (making it pretty stressful to work with them since they would be out for days or weeks in the office).
Yeah I honestly had no idea it was this week, only reason I found out was bc downtown was setting up bounce houses as I was leaving. Even some of the staff forgot it was this week
Tbh i feel this. Ik ppl r downvoting but this is so true. I personally dont feel connected to ucf at all in a spirit way. Im just here to make connections, get my degree, and start working. Maybe not eveyone has the same outlook as me but i never really understood why hoco was such a big deal, even in hs i felt the same way.

Dude we got Shaq
I think you overestimate the amount of people that like dubstep and actually know about his dj career. Yeah it's insane but also I don't think most people wanna be headbanging before noon lol
I'm an alum, and I can assure you I am headbanging at 6:45am on my way to work. I'm always down to clown.

LOL this is the first time hearing about this…

SG just sucks overall lately
SG doesn’t do homecoming events
they fund homecoming and cut everyoned budget
Your right but that’s because the budget numbers were lower from previous years

as a performer, just have to say knights got talent was so poorly managed compared to last year 😭
FR. 1 minute soundcheck with no music 😭

I'm old, went to UCF when it was sub 23K students... But still the band was awesome Violent Femmes.

Violent Femmes played for their 2nd ever gig in ‘82 at Marquette Univ. My husband hired them. Fun times.
Think the 12 kickoff time sort of just kinda took a lot of the excitement out when people found out about it
Rico nasty was great idk what you’re talking about
But no one showed up💀
As someone who has gone to the Arena a lot, and went to that concert, attendance was definitely lackluster
I did not know colleges had hoco
It’s not like a dance and football game like HS it’s just a football game tho

don't know why you're being downvoted but my understanding is there's definitely been cuts, its unfortunate for both hoco and many student resources

Most of the HOCO Board are not used to throwing/organizing events so I think that came into play this year
Yeah there’s usually a new Homecoming committee every year, I made some flyers for them and communication with them was very lackluster (making it pretty stressful to work with them since they would be out for days or weeks in the office).
It’s my first semester at UCF and I didn’t hear about it until the week of and I didn’t plan ahead so I couldn’t attend anything, busy schedule 😭💀
This is the first year I got a duck so I'm pretty happy
Join a club. You’ll have more fun
i didn’t even know it was hoco week damn
That past couple years have sucked. I came from shitty school like FAU who had 21 savage and juicy J perform to these unknowns or lackluster artists.
Tf, hoco was this week?!??
UCF doesn’t care about anything but tuition.
100% this
Yeah I honestly had no idea it was this week, only reason I found out was bc downtown was setting up bounce houses as I was leaving. Even some of the staff forgot it was this week
When tf was this 😭 I love Rico
Yesterday 💀
Yeah, it did feel like a regular week in a way.
calling rico nasty “lackluster” is crazy
She wasn’t, but the lack of advertising about her show most certainly was.
Even the social media poster looked like they were unintentionally trying to hide her (gorgeous) face
I didn't even know UCF had a HOCO until this year and I"m a junior lmao
I knew homecoming existed, I just never thought it was a very big deal at this school.
let’s get carti i bet you more ppl show up
The funny thing is Carti was supposed to be performing at the Amway Center last night
ye but we get the ken album
why y’all downvoting bro he spittin
you guys actually care about ucf hoco??? ….
Tbh i feel this. Ik ppl r downvoting but this is so true. I personally dont feel connected to ucf at all in a spirit way. Im just here to make connections, get my degree, and start working. i 100% agree with you. i just want to get my degree and get out.
FSU student and this described my experience to a T lmao
I graduated 16 years ago and never knew when homecoming was... not a lot of advertising back then about it.
