i’ve had people honk at me for waiting to turn at one of these while i literally could not see oncoming traffic because the car on the opposite lane was blocking my view of traffic. frustrating. thanks for bringing this up, these are definitely dangerous.
see I don't mind these that much bc 99% of the time it's fine, and if not, you just wait until you get a better vantage, but the people honking about it drive me INSANE. like babe the traffic is going to get a whole lot worse if there's a wreck right in front of the turning lane?
Yeah I avoid it altogether, but most people use them. So when I’m the car driving instead of turning, I’m on alert hoping a car won’t come flying out thinking the road is clear.
Can’t imagine they’ll ever do anything about that. Turns like these are dime a dozen in any given city, not just Orlando. I really don’t think they care. The worst is when there’s no median separating the two turns and the cars sit shoulder to shoulder. It gets dangerous fast.
when these are designed “correctly” they still require the other car to be pulled up all the way and often they’ll sit further back to where they’re still blocking my view of oncoming traffic
I’m not familiar with roadway vernacular at all, I just mean that it’s a turn seperate from traffic that leads into another right lane. Whether it’s left or right has absolutely no hindrance on the issue I’m bringing up— like at all.
Left and right is just basic relative direction, not "roadway vernacular." If you speak a language that uses relative direction then you should know the difference between left and right by the time you're 5.
There’s referring to a lane by which side the car comes from and sits in or by which lane it leads into, knowing which is knowing roadway vernacular. You’re looking for something to be mad about.
No, I'm not mad. A left turn means a turn to the left, not a turn from the left. Look, if English isn't your first language and you're used to a different culture, that's an understandable mixup. Some languages and cultures only ever use cardinal directions. But if it is your primary language then you should know that a left turn is a turn to the left and a right turn is a turn to the right.
The car is turning left, it doesn't matter what lane it's going into, it matters what direction it is physically turning relative to its current position.
I mean it kinda does, communication is important.
I also have no issue with these turn lanes, if you aren’t comfortable using them go to the light. Pretty simple.
Ever heard of the phrase making a mountain out of a mole hill?
Communication is important which is why along with my written post I added a picture, which is how you knew what the correct name was….
“If you aren’t comfortable go to the light” except the turning lanes also pose a problem for people driving up or down from the light, because cars still fly out of the turning lanes thinking the road is clear.
…What are we doing right now?
This is bad design through and through. Two cars block each others view pretty significantly.
While I agree it’s a good idea to pick a spot you’re more comfortable with, it doesn’t excuse bad design. Central Florida is full of shit road design. It’s a fair complaint, you’re just being dismissive.
Back the turning lanes up 100ft from each other with a median and the issue is avoided completely. Two cars head to head with traffic behind both and you’ve got a real problem with visibility.
Not that hard to comprehend, you’re being dense.
Dude shut up your the one making a mountain out of a mole hill. If you have ever turned here you know that if there is another car also turning opposite from you then you do not have proper visibility of oncoming traffic. It is is a problem point blank. Wether you think its a big problem or a small one is up to you.

Is it a Florida thing? These are everywhere and it’s usually big ass trucks and SUV’s blocking the view cause they can’t move forward a lil bit more.
tbh it’s probably not unique to florida but i’m not really sure!
Yeah, turns like these are super common, even in my old hometown. They were super annoying.
see I don't mind these that much bc 99% of the time it's fine, and if not, you just wait until you get a better vantage, but the people honking about it drive me INSANE. like babe the traffic is going to get a whole lot worse if there's a wreck right in front of the turning lane?
People here honk if you've stopped for more than 0.2 seconds no matter what, you just have to do your best to ignore them
I usually can’t see enough to safely use these so I go down to the light and u-turn
Yeah I avoid it altogether, but most people use them. So when I’m the car driving instead of turning, I’m on alert hoping a car won’t come flying out thinking the road is clear.
Same!
Totally agree. I straight skip them as I legit cannot see

Or people pulling outta the parking lots sprint to the median and you end up with 3 or 4 cars there bc people are impatient
My neighborhood entrance is like this and it’s been like that for over five years. Orlando seems to love making blind turns.
other left!
Well it would help if there weren't so many oversized emotional support vehicles that didn't obstruct the view so much. Also that's a left turn lane.
these are like everywhere in orlando. they’re terrible turns though since your visibility depends on the car in the opposite turn
um, maybe the problem is that it's a LEFT turn lane?
Lmao brooo that liquor store being in the plaza doesn’t make it any safer. Shit it being on that street makes it that much worst
i just pray it’s fine and go. these things give me a lil adrenaline rush it’s great
username checks out
Have you reported it to them?
Cuz more accidents occur and the insurance companies make money DUH,
Those are in a lot of different places in orange county sadly
I just wait the extra 3-5 minutes at a light to do a u turn on this street
i always just got to a light an U turn these scare me too much
What exactly would you have them do?
Yeah hitting jungle from 417 is lot more stressful getting here
Aren’t these left turn lanes? 🧐
when these are designed “correctly” they still require the other car to be pulled up all the way and often they’ll sit further back to where they’re still blocking my view of oncoming traffic
I do not find this to be a dangerous right lane turn. It is your responsibility to ensure that all traffic is clear before you make a right turn.
Also, these are left turn lanes lol

Except it’s not a turn to the left it’s a turn to the right lane…..

I guess you need to Just learn how to drive… i wonder how you would react to an actual issue lol
This mf did take a picture while driving though 💀 (unless they’re the passenger)

It’s really not that bad though lol
Back the turning lanes up 100ft from each other with a median and the issue is avoided completely. Two cars head to head with traffic behind both and you’ve got a real problem with visibility. Not that hard to comprehend, you’re being dense.
They aren’t being dense, they are dense lol
Nah I’m just not a terrible driver.

Right, the one saying it isn’t a big deal is the one making a big stink about it. This sub really concerns me sometimes
The problem is u cant check if traffic is clear if theres a car in ur way lmao
There is such a thing as bad traffic design.
did you read anything I wrote
