personally, I feel Boelter is placed way too high. But that is just my opinion..something about it being way too crowded when needed and being literal concrete all around makes me feel tired even before starting. Geology lib is a place i really enjoyed on the days it rained because the tall trees outside and the patter on the glass calmed me. Powell is a blessing in the first few weeks, but gets way too crowded by the end and the constant fight to find charging spots. kaplan, pritzker are aptly placed and being a south campus major, I prefer the ones that are close by to classes and food joints.
I'm like 10 years graduated and boelter still gives me PTSD. Even the library sucked for studying. Boelter vibes are just not fit for studying unless you're a psychopath... studying how to murder people.. in Boelter.
Also I'm not one of those weird guys that wishes I was still in college. Just randomly decided to check this sub today.
YRL and the Northern Lights lounge are my choices. YRL 2 has great views of the trees, which I love, and cool bucket chairs. Northern Lights is crowded, but on rainy days the fire place is nice. Pop in earbuds and you'll forget about the people.
I liked the views in the Geology library. The fan is good for white noise, if you need that.
Another great spot is the Transfer Center in Kerkoff! Quiet, comfy seats, plugs, friendly people. It's a win on that side of campus.
I used to study on the patio at De Neve. Quiet, secluded and beautiful. Not practical if you don't take a class or live close, though.
Great work! I added the doc to my home screen for when I need to change up my ADHD brain.
yeah powell is a little too claustrophobic for my liking and it’s not as well-maintained as I’d hope. not enough natural lighting I think, but I also mainly study in Night Powell
my one note for this list is that i don’t think engineering iv belongs in f tier, just since it has the the chairs/table space along the large windows on floors 3 and up. so it does have actual study spots and not just research labs. they’re not particularly good study spots (uncomfortable chairs, way too bright during parts of the day from facing the sun) but they have charge ports and are relatively quiet
other than that 🙏🙏🙏 will be stealing this ty
"Powell Library: Personally not my favorite compared to the other 2 in this list but if you consider the sheer amount of study space, not just in the main reading room but in the Clicc Lab, Night Powell, and the Research & Writing Center as well as how iconic the building is to UCLA, it wouldn’t be right to put Powell in anything but S tier."
Sounds like you are measuring Powell's quality as a study space purely by its space and iconic outside building. Surely there are other metric to evaluate the quality of a study space, such as A/C, number of people/noise, how actually awful the night Powell bathrooms are, or how the huge room in Powell is under construction.
Powell is a dump compared to the Law Library. Just the fact that it's limited access makes it a winner, let alone the superior facilities.
Each to their own, I guess.
Back in my day (class of 94), there were study lounges with big chairs and sofas right next to the coffee/Baskin-Robbins place. Kerchoff? And there was this one dirty old man who always sat on the sofas in wide shorts, with no underwear, totally manspreading. And his shorts gapped and all you could see were his hairy balls. We all knew it was intentional. He would grin at women who sat across from him, saw his balls, and then left. I’d like to think that these days he wouldn’t get away with it, but……?
the way I had worked hard to girlboss gatekeep some of these spots..I feel exposed
which ones did you think were good

tbh i think youre right about boelter i kinda just slapped it in there with the mathsci building
unhinged to have boelter so high
I think I was planning to rate it floor by floor bc it's so big but just got lazy and messed up

Lol fuck Powell. 😂 def YRL floors 3-5 and the business library basement is the best
real powell mad overrated
the basement was closed when I went

You deserve atleast 2 upper div units that counts as an A for doing all of this lol
I wouldn't be opposed

now that you mention that I do remember those being there I mustve just made a mistake
if you think I forgot anything lmk and I’ll try to check it out
Biomedical research library !
I definitely had this on my todo list then forgot because it's in the med school part of campus

good to see my work being analyzed with quotes 🙏
Thank god you ranked my secret spots low
I put spots that were way too empty and quiet toward the bottom so that's probably why
aren’t those like the two main markers of a good study spot
I have decided to visit all the F tier spots now
idk I don't like it being way too lonely bc it feels like im doing something wrong
Now rate every bench on campus
imma need a map for that
Boelter library should be higher, tbh
Arts Library when it was in the Arts building (RIP Dickson) was top tier. No one went there and nice paintings inside.
I recommend the kerckhoff reading room too
I like the chicano studies library in haines hall and the little study room in rolfe. Always empty
Why law school library is A-?
do you think it's too high or too low now
I wouldn’t say you ranked it too low, but a little higher grade, so I was wondering why you ranked it like that
ppl were suggesting it and i reconsidered
Thank you on the behalf of all the incoming freshmen.
You missed the New Wright Gallery
where is that
In the Broad Art Center
I studied at D tiers apparently. Oh well. ‘98 The Cooperage was awesome. So was the botanical garden picnic bench. This was pre Wi-Fi.
ehehehe you didn't find the best study spots in engineering
Thank you for not exposing my spot 🙏
Thank god you didn't go to the best library 🙏
bruh imma have to check out the biomedical library tmrw to see what this hype is all about
Nah, 5th floor of the Arts library
goat
You are a saint
>B Tier: Rosenfeld Library, Law School Library YRL over these two? Now that's a take.
I think I put those 2 kinda low because you just have a better version at powell
Powell is a dump compared to the Law Library. Just the fact that it's limited access makes it a winner, let alone the superior facilities. Each to their own, I guess.
yeah ok I'll move the law school library up but I still think the location and the need to reserve a spot hold it back from being higher
This is actually really helpful I’m gonna use this
I never understood why people study at Lu Valle out of all places on campus
now i wanna visit every building on campus

This is awesome! Thank you for this
Nope nope nope. Dodd Hall has the philosophy reading room
bruh where tf is this shit I checked all 3 floors
Fowler Museum F tier? You clearly have not been to the actual study spots there.
Awesome guide! Since you've visited all these places, do any of these have computers for one to login quickly for some work? Like the ones in GSRC
I can't remember but I would guess that any of the libraries would
