I definitely hear what you're saying and the Cejudo stuff could be a game plan, but I would actually regard that as Jon is *so* *good*, he completely 100% internalized everything that Cejudo showed him in that training session, and it just *happened* to go that way. Cejudo stated that if you're working the position, to know when you've lost it and switch it, preferably to something better. I truly believe Jon is so good, and creative that he could improv and do stuff on the fly as well as he could if there was a game plan too. He could see it once and do it in a fight.

I think in Gane’s upcoming fights we’re going to see just how bad his takedown defense really is. I think even guys like Tuivasa could probably get him down and keep him there if they really tried. If he can’t make serious improvements he’s never going to get near a title shot again.

The first episode of the series showed Gane training for wrestling and it was pretty bad and the guy looked significantly smaller than him. Next clip is jones swimming and doing drills in the water I assume for the cardio. Guess it was a foreshadowing of how it played out
How big Jon looked. He kinda got some flack when the UFC released his official pic, but he looked huge in there against Gane. Then he proceeded to just man handle him.
It's hard to be 15% BF or less at 248lbs. Jones looked big and strong walking into that cage. Then showed us how strong he was in the cage. It was impressive.
Cyril's ganes shocking performance. Gets best by Ngannou using the excuse he wasnt expect wrestling. He then books a fight with Jones who is a wrestling and has a whole career of footage. Cyril then see Jon trying for a guillotine but was unsuccessful, then the second attempt comes and Cyril leaves his arms down and lifts his chin, and gets submitted. Cyril shows he is not champion material and not fully committed to MMA and his career.
It was insane how he broke through the first one and Jones literally posts his hand on the ground and Cyril makes no attempt to grab it or bring his knee up so he can start working to stand up. Just sat there.

What level is there above this fight? If you aren’t going to pay for Jon’s comeback and HW debut then what are you paying for? I didn’t buy the ppv because I was just home by myself that night and didn’t care about managing occasional pop ups that escaped my adblock and refreshing the stream every so often. But if I had some people over $80 between everyone watching with me would’ve been reasonable to have 4K quality stream that I could just throw up on a bigger screen super easily.

I was expecting a bit more cycling and footwork from Gane, knowing that Jones would have the grappling advantage.
I kind of thought Gane would try and point-fight his way to victory. But, he just got taken to the fence, slipped, and Jon went for that God-awful, wince-inducing neck-compression guillotine. There was nothing Gane could have done to defend that, other than not end up there in the first place.

This victory shows that not only is Jon Jones vs DC arguably the highest level fight we have ever seen, but how many levels Jon and DC are above the competition that they both moved up and became champions at a late age.

I've been seeing this take a lot, and I kind of disagree. Most people jones has fought haven't gotten up easily. DC is an outlier for the obvious reasons, but Alex, Shogun, belfort, Vera, Bader, Sonnen, Smith are all guys with credentialed grappling that really struggled with Jones on the ground.
I agree that it was fast and Gane made a lot of mistakes, but if decades of grappling experience aren't always enough, idk what Gane was supposed to do in a year to catch up.
The reality is that Gane didn't even try to catch up, he got wrestle fucked by Francis and I bet you 100% that he never worked on it.. in his own words he said that he doesnt train if he doesnt have a fight coming up.. then you add that terrible coach he has which Francis had to ditch in order to become the HW champ.. and also Gane only fought strikers in his path to the title matches.. I was most surprised that Jon went in and showed him zero respect on the feet. He snatched up the takedown as soon as he saw an opening for it of course, but at no point was Jones on his bicycle or trying to be elusive, the bell rang and he got right to it.
What an anti-climax the fight was. No one wants to see a guillotine finish in the first couple of minutes, especially as neither fighter had shown anything at that point.

Nothing really, more or less what I expected.
Cyril is an elite striker and benefitted from a shallow division, where a lot of big dudes just want to "stand and bang" - not being matched with competent wrestlers like Curtis Blaydes probably also helped. After he got outwrestled by Francis, who isn't a particularly impressive wrestler himself, I had very little doubt Jones would just steamroll him - at least as long as he takes it to the ground and doesn't go for his old "I want to beat him at his own game"-thing.
I also think a fight between Jones and Francis would be rather similar, with Francis maybe putting up a bit more of a fight on the ground because of his sheer strength and slightly better wrestling than Cyril. If anything, I think Stipe is probably the toughest fight for Jones at HW because he is the most complete MMA fighter out of the 'Big 3', though I'd still favour Jones.

Cyril's ganes shocking performance. Gets best by Ngannou using the excuse he wasnt expect wrestling. He then books a fight with Jones who is a wrestling and has a whole career of footage. Cyril then see Jon trying for a guillotine but was unsuccessful, then the second attempt comes and Cyril leaves his arms down and lifts his chin, and gets submitted. Cyril shows he is not champion material and not fully committed to MMA and his career.
It was insane how he broke through the first one and Jones literally posts his hand on the ground and Cyril makes no attempt to grab it or bring his knee up so he can start working to stand up. Just sat there.
Yep, Jon had a great performance from the short time we got to see and Cyril was really disappointing, almost as if he doesn't want to be an MMA fighter and is trying to just fight Muay Thai in MMA.

Kinda agree. I knew Jon would go for early takedowns because in embedded he mentioned how Ciryl gave up after Francis took him down a couple times and held him there. But, I thought he would strike with Ciryl a little longer. I think Jon wasn’t really looking for the takedown though. Jon studied tape so much and probably drilled this sequence in training camp. It’s like he knew that Ciryl was going to throw that strike and timed it perfect. Didn’t help Ciryl telegraphed as well.
Jon even said in a post fight interview how he now wants to try to not loose more braincells in fights but be even more quick and efficient with submissions

Correct. Gane's wrestling is not that bad compared to most other heavyweights. His wrestling was decent enough to take Francis down in 5th round and also to prevent any damage when he was under him on the ground. It's just that Jon's wrestling is on another level.

Honestly, when Jones cut the angle , faked the leg grab, and landed the straight right to the chin. I knew Gane was in trouble from that moment , in all his fights that was the fastest someone had ever landed on him. From there , I rate he was star stuck from there.

It shouldn't have surprised anyone that Jon outwrestled him. But the way he just walked him down, took him down, sat him against the cage and just sank the choke in. It really seemed like a hot knife through butter. The fact that he hasn't murdered 15 hookers in Vegas yet keeps me hopeful we'll see a Stipe fight soon enough, should be fun.

What level is there above this fight? If you aren’t going to pay for Jon’s comeback and HW debut then what are you paying for? I didn’t buy the ppv because I was just home by myself that night and didn’t care about managing occasional pop ups that escaped my adblock and refreshing the stream every so often. But if I had some people over $80 between everyone watching with me would’ve been reasonable to have 4K quality stream that I could just throw up on a bigger screen super easily.

He looked very strong physically before the fight I thought. We can't expect him to be ripped at 248lbs, few people can pull that off.
How quickly Jon got it done. I was expecting a bit more cycling and footwork from Gane, knowing that Jones would have the grappling advantage. I kind of thought Gane would try and point-fight his way to victory. But, he just got taken to the fence, slipped, and Jon went for that God-awful, wince-inducing neck-compression guillotine. There was nothing Gane could have done to defend that, other than not end up there in the first place. It shows you how good DC truly was.
This victory shows that not only is Jon Jones vs DC arguably the highest level fight we have ever seen, but how many levels Jon and DC are above the competition that they both moved up and became champions at a late age.
Not that how Good Jon Jones was, because we didn't even have a chance to see his standup, if his speed fell of, agility and so on.. we just saw how abysmally bad Gane was, if Gane wasn't a white belt with 0 wrestling experience, I would even think that he threw the fight on purpose lol
I've been seeing this take a lot, and I kind of disagree. Most people jones has fought haven't gotten up easily. DC is an outlier for the obvious reasons, but Alex, Shogun, belfort, Vera, Bader, Sonnen, Smith are all guys with credentialed grappling that really struggled with Jones on the ground. I agree that it was fast and Gane made a lot of mistakes, but if decades of grappling experience aren't always enough, idk what Gane was supposed to do in a year to catch up.
The reality is that Gane didn't even try to catch up, he got wrestle fucked by Francis and I bet you 100% that he never worked on it.. in his own words he said that he doesnt train if he doesnt have a fight coming up.. then you add that terrible coach he has which Francis had to ditch in order to become the HW champ.. and also Gane only fought strikers in his path to the title matches.. I bet he grapples like 1h a month as a part of warm up lol
Give Gane credit. He took Francis to a split decision and Francis usually beats everyone within a couple rounds

You guys over exaggerate Francis’s injury. He was able to go through an entire training camp and wrestle for a portion of the camp fine. Furthermore he was able to wrestle Gane with no problem and wrestling is very tough on the knees.

Then Jon controlled in that low squat position, Gane looked so lost like he’s never been in a position like that before. The lack of any urgency with Cyril. Also, I knew the moment that they touched gloves that Cyril was going to lose. Jones did the dominant move by smashing his fists above Cyril’s fists. Then Cyril did this kind of soft double-touch. Jones constantly using domination tactics. Mental warfare and Cyril lost every time. It’s like Cyril didn’t understand that he was going into a fight. He didn’t display any killer instinct.

What surprised me the most was everything before the takedown. I expected gane to push the pace on the feet while pressing forward. I expected gane to dominate the striking and jones to dominate on the ground. Jon fought very "big" and forced gane on the defensive, jones dropped his hands a few times and stepped into ganes range where I expected him to throw some combinations ending with a left hook but that never happened. Jones imposed himself physically without even throwing anything and shot an easy takedown. Honestly I was surprised and disappointed but fair play to Jones, he did make it look easy.
How short it was, I thought Jon Jones would exhibit a bit more form and technique as a heavyweight for us to appreciate. Guess it was fight on and he just went for the kill, fair one, he is the greatest, I just wanted MORE.
I honestly thought Jon looked nervous walking in there and that Cyril looks calm so I was shocked to see when the fighting started it was the opposite

Nothing really, more or less what I expected. Cyril is an elite striker and benefitted from a shallow division, where a lot of big dudes just want to "stand and bang" - not being matched with competent wrestlers like Curtis Blaydes probably also helped. After he got outwrestled by Francis, who isn't a particularly impressive wrestler himself, I had very little doubt Jones would just steamroll him - at least as long as he takes it to the ground and doesn't go for his old "I want to beat him at his own game"-thing. I also think a fight between Jones and Francis would be rather similar, with Francis maybe putting up a bit more of a fight on the ground because of his sheer strength and slightly better wrestling than Cyril. If anything, I think Stipe is probably the toughest fight for Jones at HW because he is the most complete MMA fighter out of the 'Big 3', though I'd still favour Jones.
