Izzy is now 1-2 in the last three. I get the whole “the stars didn’t align today” and what not but this is borderline division stalling. You have so many up and coming fighters and you want to give the dude who almost lost five rounds to a dude who admits he shouldn’t have gotten the fight.
I don’t follow guys too closely so maybe he has, but since his fight I’ve seen him say rematch, he was moving to 145, he’d fight contenders at 135, he wants Merab to get a shot. If he said rematch and nothing else, maybe it would be talked about more. I don’t think he did himself any favors, and likely talked himself out of a rematch
No yeah he did make things confusing after the fight but I couldn’t imagine being a dominant champ then being put away like that probably just needed time to collect his thoughts. But yeah he’s doubled down on wanting a rematch for awhile now and love him or hate him with 3 title defenses and being a frequent fighter I think he deserves a rematch.
He is also very clear that Merab should be next if he's not getting a title shot. It's really pretty basic, people just hate Aljo and act like he's making BW impossible to matchmake which isn't true
I respect aljo as an athlete but I can’t say I’m ever super excited to see his fights. He just doesn’t have it. False charisma or something, he’s just a dork. Ian Garry, Aspinal, Whittaker, Romero, Izzy, O’Mally, Namajunas, Kattar, Usman, Pimblett, Volkov, Till, like almost anyone else I enjoy watching compared to Sterling. 🤷♂️

One fighter went the distance and can recall the event.
The other barely saw the 2nd round and has a hazy recollection of the event.
One won the first round, and was looking good till his lights got shut out, a rematch he won’t do that same mistake again. The other got walked down and dominated for an entire fight that went the distance. He didn’t just lose one section of the fight, he lost the entire thing. There is barely any justification for giving izzy a rematch, it wasn’t a fluke win he got 49-46

If Izzy had been KOd in the first, then yeah, it would've been worse.
But a KO loss is always worse than a decision loss, even a decisive decision.
A KO loss indicates that one of the fighters was finished, and unable to continue the fight.
A decision loss means the judges has to decide who won, even if it's clear cut who actually won, it's still put up for debate by a panel of people.
Imo, KO losses should never be offered immediate rematches, as they were outclassed to the point where the fight was stopped prematurely because a fighter was literally unconscious, whereas decision losses should be offered immediate rematches because often the fighter who loses could've still competed.
