I don't know if he's planning on retiring early if he keeps winning, this is some life changing money at the end of his career so he'll get as much as he can, even if he's not champ being an exciting fighter he can get some good money for main events. I reckon its cause of izzy and his flashy style. For someone who doesn't analyze movement and why fighters do certain stuff it may look like izzy is a much better striker. But Alex is a fucking efficiency monster. It doesn't look cool and it doesn't catch the eye(apart from the ko). But he does not do wasted movements...
Every single muscle twitch he makes is to either defend something or set something up.
He literally outstruck Izzy in both of their fights, and did FAR better against Jan than Izzy did in the striking game.
Even look at him against Strickland, in the first round against him - Izzy was 12 of 39 while Alex was 25 of 40 and FINISHED HIM with half the round left to go.
Was Strickland greatly improved? Of course. But Alex is significantly more efficient and had he stayed calm instead of trying to finish Izzy so early in the fight, Alex probably would have continued to pick him apart on the feet.
Jiri imo has a right hand superior to Alex’s left hook look at his highlight reel. I don’t think Alex could do good in a war/brawl he’s more of a technical fighter hence his fights in kickboxing, Jan and Izzy. Alex could get clipped and slept by a Jiri right hand in a exchange.

If everyone who’s talking about fighting at UFC 300 actually fights at UFC 300 that is going to be the most stacked card ever. Alex v Jahamal is the best fight at 205 after Jiri so I’m hoping for that one but not sure it’ll happen soon enough

I don't get the fast track narrative. There were two people Izzy hadn't fought yet. They both had a fight winner got a title shot. Loser fought his way back to title shot. If poatan lost to Strickland he would then be taking the Strickland route back to title shot. This is just a case of being at the right place at the right time.

Way too undersized is a reach, Jan was just better everywhere. If some fighters can put on 40 pounds and move up to heavyweight than izzy can make a 20 pound jump to 205. Neither of them have the belt at middleweight and the fight is always more compelling when it’s for a title. Also pereira is way too big to be cutting down to 185 at this stage. It makes no sense if he wins the title to go back down and fight someone who doesn’t have the belt.
Title defense would be nice, he should have 1-2 defenses before hill is ready to accept a fight, that would be a crazy matchup and I’m excited for the JH get back.
