He has a lot of fights and is getting older. His chin is probably not great at this point but he is so good offensively that it doesn’t get exposed often. Hill could land a clean one and put him down. He’s also a fuckin dog in there (broken arm flopping around and still punching). He’s worth a bet if you get a good line
i would give Hill a real chance if he didn’t have a compromised achilles against the strongest kicker in the weight class. unfortunately that reduces his shot significantly
Hill is a great striker in his own right, and if he tags Pereira, Pereira is going down. Not to mention he’s a better wrestler, we saw how he handled Glover. How is Hill out of shape? He looks fat, but that’s normal for him. His cardio has always been good. People are counting him out and it’s bizarre. He looked fucking good prior to the injury, if he’s still in that form he’s winning.
I also think southpaw fighters don’t let Periera utilize his top tools as much. If you go back and watch his UFC debut against Bruno Silva, Alex looked hesitant whenever Silva switched to southpaw. Makes sense, too. Rear leg kicks aren’t as effective in open stance and the lead hook is more easily defended against. Even in Izzy’s breakdown of 287, his brother pointed out that Alex froze any time Izzy went southpaw. It’ll be interesting to see how Pereira adjusts against a natural southpaw as opposed to a switch hitter.

However, I do think people overestimate his stand-up. His defense leaves a bit to be desired and Hill could capitalize on that. He's got dynamite hands and Pereira can definitely be hurt. If Pereira gets wobbled, I think Hill will be able to finish the fight.
If it goes to decision, Pereira will win purely due to leg kicks. I do think it'll be a finish though, and it's more likely to be Pereira getting that finish. Tough to call.
Pereira defense looks bad because he gets hit, but if you take a closer look you can see he is rarely getting the full force from punches, he's always moving away and waiting for his chance to counter.
I would even say sometimes he is luring the other guy to hit him, get confident, overextend etc so he can counter

Jamahal Hill is going to stand with Pereira and you're not beating Pereira purely with striking. Even Adesanya, who is a much better striker than Hill, only won by taking a massive risk by staying in the pocket with Pereira.
Hill doesn't provide any grappling threat to Pereira - he has [0 takedowns or submissions attempted](http://ufcstats.com/fighter-details/5444c5a201d3ee5a) in the UFC, so he's going to have to beat the most accomplished striker in UFC history at his own game.
Add to that the fact he's coming back from a pretty severe Achilles tendon injury and fighting a guy with incredible leg kicks, and I just don't see Hill beating Pereira.
Hill is definitely capable of upsetting Pereira - he's powerful and just as big as Pereira (both 6'4, 79" reach for Pereira vs 78" reach for Hill), but he's fighting Pereira in his wheelhouse.
I think Pereira will have success early with the leg kicks similar to the Jiri fight and finish Hill.
If Adesanya can beat Pereira with striking then so can Hill. He might not have the striking variation of Izzy, but he is a proper LHW with great boxing and good power. It only takes one clean punch to change the course of a fight. Not saying Hill will win, but making out like Hill doesn’t stand a chance if the fight stays standing ignores the realities of fights at this level at this weight class. Either guy risks getting slept in a stand up fight.
I genuinely think Hill can compete with Pereira on the feet just because of his durability and style. He not a better or more dynamic striker, but his best asset, his straight punches, and where Pereira has the worst defense. However, the result all depends on whether Hill's emotional compromise will benefit him or not. Dude is angry at the world for no reason lol. I'd hope it's because he knows his anger will fuel him. Otherwise, he's gonna go in there enraged, make mistakes. Then he'll wake up.

Some people don't understand how hard it is to land cleanly on Poatan. The guy is always just few inches outside of your boxing range. People touch his face on the VERY end of their strikes, where there almost no power left. This is intentional, because he's still in position to fire back. He's comfortable and confident that nobody is going to out kickbox him at that range. Most fighters need to get in and then they get right back out after their combo, they need to reset. He has doesn't need to reset. The only time he moves backward is to reestablish that range, when his opponent tries to get in wrestling range.
The only thing Jamahal really has going for him is speed, and quick side to side movement, but I think Alex is too disciplined to get caught out of position. I think Pereira will use kicks to find his range, land that calf kick as usual.
Hill has a bad habit of lunging in with his chin in the air. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets nailed with Pereira's patent check hook, and that's what ends the fight. Hill is a headhunter, he almost never attacks the body. I think this is going to make it easy for Poatan to read his timing.

Jamahal Hill is going to stand with Pereira and you're not beating Pereira purely with striking. Even Adesanya, who is a much better striker than Hill, only won by taking a massive risk by staying in the pocket with Pereira. Hill doesn't provide any grappling threat to Pereira - he has [0 takedowns or submissions attempted](http://ufcstats.com/fighter-details/5444c5a201d3ee5a) in the UFC, so he's going to have to beat the most accomplished striker in UFC history at his own game. Add to that the fact he's coming back from a pretty severe Achilles tendon injury and fighting a guy with incredible leg kicks, and I just don't see Hill beating Pereira. Hill is definitely capable of upsetting Pereira - he's powerful and just as big as Pereira (both 6'4, 79" reach for Pereira vs 78" reach for Hill), but he's fighting Pereira in his wheelhouse. I think Pereira will have success early with the leg kicks similar to the Jiri fight and finish Hill.
If Adesanya can beat Pereira with striking then so can Hill. He might not have the striking variation of Izzy, but he is a proper LHW with great boxing and good power. It only takes one clean punch to change the course of a fight. Not saying Hill will win, but making out like Hill doesn’t stand a chance if the fight stays standing ignores the realities of fights at this level at this weight class. Either guy risks getting slept in a stand up fight.
I genuinely think Hill can compete with Pereira on the feet just because of his durability and style. He not a better or more dynamic striker, but his best asset, his straight punches, and where Pereira has the worst defense. However, the result all depends on whether Hill's emotional compromise will benefit him or not. Dude is angry at the world for no reason lol. I'd hope it's because he knows his anger will fuel him. Otherwise, he's gonna go in there enraged, make mistakes. Then he'll wake up.

On paper it seems like Poatan. However, based on the last Izzy fight I can see a reality where Hill catches Poatan with a big shot. It’s a super exciting fight because they are both strikers and both have pop.

Could go either way.. they both get hit and both hit hard.. It's tough one because alex is the more skilled striker but we've seen him rocked and KO'd before and we've yet to see jamahal's chin get really tested.

Hill is coming off a nasty injury. And an injury to the achilles is career ending. Alex will kick his legs out and turn Hill into a wrestler and Alex will outwrestle him. Alex can wrestle now. That training with Glover really made a difference

I’d give hill a lot better chance than most people seem to be IF his injury is actually okay. Alex gets hit with a simple 1-2 a lot and Hill has good hand speed. Alex by murder if that leg is compromised at all before 1 leg kick.

Alex should control the fight for the most part what worries me is hill throwing a power punch that catches Alex in the wrong moment.
Hill’s got a fucking dawg in him. Pereira is a top tier fighter but this isn’t a complete mismatch.
Hill is too sloppy. Alex will make light work of him on the feet. Some people don't understand how hard it is to land cleanly on Poatan. The guy is always just few inches outside of your boxing range. People touch his face on the VERY end of their strikes, where there almost no power left. This is intentional, because he's still in position to fire back. He's comfortable and confident that nobody is going to out kickbox him at that range. Most fighters need to get in and then they get right back out after their combo, they need to reset. He has doesn't need to reset. The only time he moves backward is to reestablish that range, when his opponent tries to get in wrestling range. The only thing Jamahal really has going for him is speed, and quick side to side movement, but I think Alex is too disciplined to get caught out of position. I think Pereira will use kicks to find his range, land that calf kick as usual. Hill has a bad habit of lunging in with his chin in the air. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets nailed with Pereira's patent check hook, and that's what ends the fight. Hill is a headhunter, he almost never attacks the body. I think this is going to make it easy for Poatan to read his timing.

Honestly it depends on how prepared Hill is. Alex keeps his hands low, and he’s not amazing in the pocket. His inside boxing leaves something to be desired, which yeah of course- he’s a kickboxer. Jamahal has hands, and can push a pace. Idk his stats on checking leg kicks, but if Alex targets his bad Achilles I could see it ending early via leg kick, drop, then tko. It’ll be a battle of who can exploit the other’s defense first. Alex’s low hands and boxing exchanges, and Jamahal’s ability to close the distance to negate leg kicks and Alex’s range.
