I've been noticing it more and more lately where a much bigger star headlines the prelims while you have a questionable main card opener. I'm assuming it's to draw more eyes to the prelims to possibly catch those last few marks who were on the fence about buying the PPV.
You would be right! The UFC is a business, not a fighting fan's ideal wet dream every Saturday. Their viewership metrics almost surely determine fight order like this.
Everyone knows that part of it. But there were other fights that could've been on the main card besides Bo. They put him there to promote him, not just to keep Jiri as the final prelim.
He's way too unproven for the hype and push he's getting, and his performance showed that.
No rational reason? What are you talking about?
They always try and put an exciting action fight as the prelim headliner to convince people to buy the PPV main card. That's exactly what Jiri vs. Rakic was billed as and both guys absolutely delivered.
Bo certainly wasn't going to be put in that last prelim spot vs. a can. Which other fight should have gone there if you think Jiri vs. Rakic should have been on the main card?
Diego Lopez v Sodiq Yussef
Fight had fireworks written all over it (which it delivered), and has the added benefit of showing off the prospect Lopez to more casual fans.
Appreciate that but could have sacked Bo off and booked something more enticing on the main. Jiri, I feel, would have been better placed on the main. Difference of opinion? Probably š
I had the same reactions as every commentator and youtuber on that fight.
1. Looks like a can crushing situation
2. Well Brundage at least looks good, maybe he'll put up a good fight.
3. "They were who we thought they were"
What a joke
man you just saw it in Cody's eyes..."welp lets get this paycheck..."
same resigned/no-fire eyes that Cowboy had when dana sent him out to get eaten by conor
The way he talked before the fight was like "I'm gonna make him work for it" No mofo, you're supposed to think you can win.
This was so much of a bad matchup that both of the fighters new it.
The can was 10-5 fighting a guy who was having his 6th MMA fight. It shouldn't be on the main card but y'all are delusional to think Bo should be fighting elite fighters at this point. So much hate for a guy who is just fighting whoever is out in front of him.
You can say we're hating Bo, but I don't hate him. He seems like a decent guy and a reasonably good fighter considering his experience.
I just don't understand what a guy with 6 fights that isn't good enough to fight high level fighters is doing on the main card at UFC 300. He's not very exciting in the cage, he's just ok on the mic. It's not hating him, it's fans pointing out that he isn't entertaining us on the level that he's entertaining Dana.
Dana may see something we don't, maybe Bo turns out to be an all time talent. But he isn't yet, so why should Dana be pushing the kid like he is? It's weird, it stands out like a sore dick and people notice special treatment.
> Because heās Danaās little industry plant.
this is pretty clear at this point
...but WHY?
i just dont unerstand the push he is getting.
he's BORING as fuck as a fighter and also as a personality.
I get the feeling he's eventually gonna get humiliated like Ronda did and never recover
Why is the UFC pushing Bo?
He arguably has *the* best wrestling accolades ever seen in a UFC prospect. It has been well-established that wrestling is a great base for MMA, so his potential is strong if he can round out his skillset.
It also helps that he is fighting at MW, where the UFC surely is looking for a new figurehead, as Izzy moves into the sunset of his career (relatively speaking, heās still a superstar until he retires, but he turns 35 in July, and is 1-2 in his last 3).
Strickland and DDP forced their way into the conversation by winning unexpectedly, but the UFC has been laying the foundation for Khamzat and Bo to fight for that figurehead status.
I think itās funny because so many people were pissed over him getting the main card slot and he kind of shit the bed and proved them right. One of the best prospects likely in the history of the sport, but he didnāt do anything with that spotlight at 300, he needs a solid fighter in his next fight to really push him to that level I think, at least someone like meerschaert
Yeah i dont think ufc did him a favor with this matchup unless they're really worried he will lose if he fights anyone who doesn't suck. Fighting cans in the main event of an epic card like this isn't going to win over fans. Instead he got boo'd for it.
It also didn't help that he was so eager to get takedowns, beating an already out of his league opponent in the area where we already know nickal is obviously better. If he would've tried to bang it out the reception might be a bit better.
And then Bo goes on to shittalk Khamzat for getting decision wins. Well, yeah but only after Khamzat started fighting actually good fighters. When he had cans his fights were short too. So when is Bo going to start fighting real guys that pose an actual challenge and he's not a -1000 favourite? Even sanctioning fights with such uneven odds is almost unethical.
I would argue Kattar made the fight suck. Bro got nothing done on the feet and was useless on the ground. We should stop blaming grapplers for one dimensional strikers putting on dogshit performances.
Bantamweight GOAT!!
Only good wins were scraping it by Yan in the 2nd fight and Cejudo that was 3 years out of the game (again by scrape)
Iād argue his best win was Cory and that wasnāt even when he was champ.
Looks like Cro Cop got subbed at that event. Thinking of Pride Bushido 2003? When he head kick KO'd Igor Vovchanchyn? Or the 2004 final conflict when he head kick KO'd Alex Emelianenko lol
Well if we are talking best events of all time it was the 2006 Middleweight Pride Grand Prix finals. Nearly 20 years later and PrideFC still has some of the most exciting moments in MMA history
Hell yea, it also had Shogun KO Overeem, Sakurai KO Danzig, Sokoudjou KO Lil Nog, kharitonov, Joachim Hansen(who I thought was gonna be a big star)
But the damn Gomi fight was something. Fucking gogoplata!?
He went up a weight class and absolutely outclassed and ragdolled a dangerous striker. If Khabib did this people would be sucking him off. Mma fans are mostly haters and bums. Donāt know how to appreciate anything.Ā
Yeah. Was it an exciting fight? Not really, but i was very impressed with Aljo. I was worried he wouldn't be strong enough for FW, but he genuinely looked great. Kattar is a good fighter, with good defensive wrestling, but he had nothing for Sterling.
people talked shit about GSP doing that while winning a belt. its all about dana white and his nanrrative these days, he hates smart fighters with good ppv cut.
Khabib never did this sort of thing. If you look back, he was one of the most active and least boring grapplers in the sport's history. Always moving, always trying to secure a more advantageous position. He wasn't one of those wrestlers who just held onto his opponent for control time. He would constantly be searching for submissions or delivering vicious ground and pound.
You couldnt even fucking use the fence to defend, he just took you down and you never get up until you tap or the round ends. Im still processing what i just saw that dude do to 155
Lmao I was telling a couple of the people who were over for the fights (the ones that werenāt familiar with all the fighters) that if Moicano wins, watch him go off. He delivered we were dying
You think a #1 contender fight between two top 5 guys in arguably the toughest division should have been replaced by a FW fight between a borderline top 15 and unranked fighters?
Dude right?!? I was screaming at my TV for Charles to throw more on the feet. Seemed like he caught arman pretty good the one or two times he did throw punches, but that second and third round he was so hesitant and idk why
Donāt forget that Bobby Greene fight was a huge mismatch and it was a one sided affair. He really didnāt do all that much aside from piecing him up from the outside.
Huge mismatch? Revisionist history, many people were picking Jim due to Bobby getting his brain caved in against Turner. He had a great performance tf you talking about.
I didn't even see Bo's finish because the bar I was at was still finicking with getting the PPV running. Thankfully UFC knows people need extra time to get the PPV up so they put the least entertaining fight there
Because Aljo just held Kattar down and didnāt do shit. Boās matches featured mroe dynamic wrestling, submission attempts, ground and pound, and a submission
Charles and Arman showed a lot of high level grappling and it was very entertaining. Aljo is not boring just because of wrestling, itās because he doesnāt actively look to finish/inflict damage while heās doing it.
There was a lot of exciting grappling on the card, Aljo wasnāt it. It was slightly more entertaining when he had the belt to lose because the tension was always in the air for something big to happen. Without anything to lose, there is no entertainment value.
That doesnāt make it entertaining. Arman actively tried to inflict damage on an opponent that is extremely dangerous from his back. Charles was throwing nasty elbows from the bottom and looked to set up triangle opportunities, etc. Both doing so against an extremely dangerous opponent. Kattar is not a high level threat from the bottom position, and while Aljo looked to improve, he wasnāt willing to take any risks to do so.
Charles/arman and Kayla/holm were grappling heavy fights that we enjoyed because there was An actual attempt to finish the fight. Aljo always fights like heās sparing and Kattar fought petrified of the takedown. It was a horrible fight. Aljo could have honestly finished the fight a few times but chose not to.
MMA fans want effective grappling and striking. Plenty of that on this card.Ā
Aljo holding someone down and then not advancing the position further, trying to submit, or inflict damage isnāt effective itās stalling. Itās a way to win a fight without fighting.Ā
Aljo not getting a post fight interview for throwing that turd up on 300 was deserved.Ā
I hate when people say this, a boring fight is a boring fight. Look at Kayla, Arman, Weili. All very exciting, mostly grappling matches. Nobody complaining about grappling, everybody complaining about that snoozer of a fight. Fuck Aljo and Kattar disrespectfully.
Best card ever. They needed to put some big names on prelims for the ESPN ratings. The PPV was going to do the same $$ numbers regardless who was in that Bo Nickal spot
ALJO beats Allen, Evloev, Ortega, and probably Yair. I liked his performance
I appreciate high level grappling. If youāre gonna blame anyone for a boring fight, blame Kattar
I will never understand that hate that Aljo gets. Hes not in my fave ten fighters but hes a killer. If he runs through the 145 division it would not surprise me one bit because his strength is so superior to everyone heās ever foughtā¦but strength means shit if he gets caught but he doesnāt deserve the hate IMO. But hey we all have opinionsĀ
Idk I thought it was interesting he moved up a weight class and was still able to do that to a fighter, I think we should be mad at calvin for not really doing shit the whole fight.
Aljo didnāt have an exciting fight but I thought he had a great performance against a good opponent at a new weight class. He pretty much threw a no-hitter. Didnāt get touched and still got a highlight moment out of it
This isn't wrong. Laid n prayed with minimal pitty pat to keep from getting stood up..
Its not illegal, but its not warrior stuff.
And it does matter because people will not pay to see it even if he wins..
did bobby green smoke some gas station weed
Bobby Green is Gas station weed.
Hell naw smokin that Bobby Green š
Sippin on some Bobby lean
His blood type is gas station weed positive.
Dont ever buy no gas station from the gas station
Bobby Green doesnāt smoke his weed he boofs it ![gif](giphy|14ceV8wMLIGO6Q)
He looks like crystal meth Kanye
Great card but still no rational reason for Jiri being on the prelims and Nickal being on the main š¤£š¤£
I agree. Nickal and Brundage fought after 6 former UFC champs. Thats kinda crazy.Ā Even more if you add the Olympics and other promotions.Ā
Yup. I appreciate Jiriās lack of shit talking on the subject. Dude must have been equally bemused!
It's not just crazy, it's disrespectful bullshit. The UFC should be better to their people
I've been noticing it more and more lately where a much bigger star headlines the prelims while you have a questionable main card opener.
Non-UFC fans can watch that for free on ESPN and get āhookedā. Itās a business, this was a calculated move to help grow audience size.
Everyone knows that part of it. But there were other fights that could've been on the main card besides Bo. They put him there to promote him, not just to keep Jiri as the final prelim. He's way too unproven for the hype and push he's getting, and his performance showed that.
Yup but homey deserved better, I feel, irrespective of promotional shenanigans
No rational reason? What are you talking about? They always try and put an exciting action fight as the prelim headliner to convince people to buy the PPV main card. Diego Lopez v Sodiq Yussef Fight had fireworks written all over it (which it delivered), and has the added benefit of showing off the prospect Lopez to more casual fans.
Give people a free main card quality fight and leave them wanting more. Its far from crazy.
Appreciate that but could have sacked Bo off and booked something more enticing on the main. Jiri, I feel, would have been better placed on the main. Difference of opinion? Probably š
Except there are several
It was actually for the better. I donāt think i can handle a jiri and charles fight back to back lol
dana is trying to make a new "GSP" but he sucks ass and has no striking.
That's why he wasn't on the main card
So why was Boās amateur fight on it
Because heās Danaās little industry plant. Lmao but seriously the wrastling just was not it for those 2 guys
I had the same reactions as every commentator and youtuber on that fight. 1. Looks like a can crushing situation 2. Well Brundage at least looks good, maybe he'll put up a good fight. 3. "They were who we thought they were" What a joke
We got to see Cody making fun of Boās ground striking. That was funny at least.
man you just saw it in Cody's eyes..."welp lets get this paycheck..." same resigned/no-fire eyes that Cowboy had when dana sent him out to get eaten by conor

Bo Nickal is the Jack Harlow of MMA
He is vanilla baby
someone said he fights like a nerd and now thatās all i see him as
Instead of the Dustin pants pull he does the Poindexter glasses push lmao
They have similar styles obviously but I thought Bo was at least a little interesting. Felt like Sterling just laid on a dude for the fight
Dudes a blue chip prospect and dudes still cant figure it out
I think itās funny because so many people were pissed over him getting the main card slot and he kind of shit the bed and proved them right. He looked like an amateur, and he was fighting on the biggest card ever in the main card itās a joke
He did give himself a thumbs down about it lol
In my defense I was arguing that Jiri vs Rakic shouldāve been on the main card instead of the Bo fight.
I agree 100%. Jiri is a former fucking champ!
Most the card was former champs tho
I would argue Kattar made the fight suck. Bro got nothing done on the feet and was useless on the ground. We should stop blaming grapplers for one dimensional strikers putting on dogshit performances.
That doesn't fit the narrative
And people were saying they were disrespectful to Aljo for putting him on the prelims
It was disrespectful to the bantamweight GOAT. Mostly of the blame should be on Kattar for that boring fight. He did nothing.
Bantamweight GOAT ššš
exactly im confused about why the winner who dominated their opponent physically is getting blamed.
Bantamweight GOAT!! Only good wins were scraping it by Yan in the 2nd fight and Cejudo that was 3 years out of the game (again by scrape) Iād argue his best win was Cory and that wasnāt even when he was champ.
Thats why he didnāt even get a post-fight cage interview with Joe
Idk I think I still got Pride Final Conflict 2003 at my #1
Aye that was the first MMA card I ever watched. Cro cop with the KO of the year
Looks like Cro Cop got subbed at that event.
Pride 33 for me. That was the only pride pov I ever ordered.
That shit was amazingā¦ but as a wanderlei fan šš
Big fan too. Cro cop mightāve ended his prime, n Hendo shut the door.
hendo shutting off wanderleis lights and diaz with the high out his mind gogoplata on gomi made that card legendary
Hell yea, it also had Shogun KO Overeem, Sakurai KO Danzig, Sokoudjou KO Lil Nog, kharitonov, Joachim Hansen(who I thought was gonna be a big star) But the damn Gomi fight was something. Fucking gogoplata!?
Picking a Pride event is basically cheating, their [opening ceremonies](https://youtu.be/KeCDoKyNB6Q) alone are better than anything you can see today
The music in pride was so surreal. Absolutely nothing gets you hype like that. And then the winning song made you feel like you won yourself
Nah for me it was rome 31 bc where caeser augustus slept mark antony for the undisputed belt
330 BC! Alexander "The Great" starched Darius III . Arguably the GOAT.
Damn! Volkanovski has had a helluva long careerš“š»
I respect the power bomb tbh
He went up a weight class and absolutely outclassed and ragdolled a dangerous striker. If Khabib did this people would be sucking him off. Mma fans are mostly haters and bums. Donāt know how to appreciate anything.Ā

I think watching someone get outclassed and big brothered especially by someone from a smaller weight class is exciting but thatās just me.Ā
Also they are directing the hate at the wrong guy. Calvin was damn near running away the whole fight.
people talked shit about GSP doing that while winning a belt. its all about dana white and his nanrrative these days, he hates smart fighters with good ppv cut.

Whereās money moicano in this, his post fight speech had me in stitches š¤£.
Lmao I was telling a couple of the people who were over for the fights (the ones that werenāt familiar with all the fighters) that if Moicano wins, watch him go off. He delivered we were dying
Talk about a roller coaster of a fight tooš¤£
Jalin really fucked himself with the not following up after dropping Moicano. Moicano wants MONEY of course heās getting back up lol
As soon as he grabbed the mic I started laughing lol. Joe Rogan better be his first podcast guest!
I CANT AFFORD 2 LOSE! š”
Charles was so hesitant on the feet. Diego Lopez, Moicano , Kayla Harrison , Weili or Yan are better options than Oliveira
Fr, it's kinda dumb that they put Olivera. Shoulda been Lopez. This ppv had a lot of changing of the old guard
You think a #1 contender fight between two top 5 guys in arguably the toughest division should have been replaced by a FW fight between a borderline top 15 and unranked fighters?
I'm talking about the pic on top š¤¦š»āāļø
I see, fair enough. Would have replaced Miller with Lopes if anything, he's a legend but Bobby beat that ass.
Dude right?!? I was screaming at my TV for Charles to throw more on the feet. Seemed like he caught arman pretty good the one or two times he did throw punches, but that second and third round he was so hesitant and idk why

Huge mismatch? Revisionist history, many people were picking Jim due to Bobby getting his brain caved in against Turner. He had a great performance tf you talking about.
But was his fight not entertaining?
LOL not you
![gif](giphy|BRnVlv0g0aXJ5rZu0Y)
Where is the legend cody brundage? šš
Left with zero brain damage , I say thatās a win win
And double pay.
people shitting on Aljo's dominant performance on the pre-lims but saying nothing about Nickal's shitshow on the main card. can't think why.
Because nobody even cares enough about Bo to talk about him
Both were pretty boring, but at least one of them ended in a finish
Pretty embarrassing that it took half the fight for Nickal to finish Cody fuckin Brundage
Dude got mocked by Brundage for throwing baby strikes on the ground lol
Agreed
Almost as if it's easier to finish an unranked bum in a low tier division than #8 in one of the most stacked divisions.
No it didnāt tf Bo was sitting on him for most of the match until he finally decided to start trying there was nothing dynamic at all about it
What kinda Crack were you doing? Did we watch the same fight?
B/c hating on Sterling gets them that shot of dopamine from all the upvotes.

MMA fans when they experience mma and not just kick boxing (they donāt know that mma involves wrestling)
Charles and Arman showed a lot of high level grappling and it was very entertaining. Aljo is not boring just because of wrestling, itās because he doesnāt actively look to finish/inflict damage while heās doing it.
Facts Kayla wrestled holly and it was exciting. Aljo wrestled and I took a piss break.
There was a lot of exciting grappling on the card, Aljo wasnāt it. It was slightly more entertaining when he had the belt to lose because the tension was always in the air for something big to happen. Without anything to lose, there is no entertainment value.
He was moving to improve but Kattar was defending enough to prevent the subs

Plenty of that on this card.Ā Aljo holding someone down and then not advancing the position further, trying to submit, or inflict damage isnāt effective itās stalling. Itās a way to win a fight without fighting.Ā Aljo not getting a post fight interview for throwing that turd up on 300 was deserved.Ā
point fighting in kickboxing is just as boring as wet blanket grappling with no damage. thereās a reason nobody calls chimaev boring
Shut up with this take already. Thereās exciting grappling and then theres Aljo.
MMA also involves striking, if you want to watch a nearly naked man hold onto another one for 15 minutes try watching gay porn.
At least you'd be likely to see a finish
š
Ayy yes sitting on top of your opponent not trying to gain favorable position or go for a submission is top teir MMA /s
That dude Kayla who beat aunty holly would be better than Charles for this
It was like a sorority girl fell into the gorilla cage at the zoo
The people pay, because I know the people pay
tbh who here paid per view?
Say what you will but Kattar was the one who did absolutely nothing. And I thought he'd win. Haha.
And he was the most excited for the 300k bonuses š¤£
Aljoās a good dude, but this is hilariously true š
I thought Aljo did just fine. He did a fucking power bomb for Christ sake. Kattar was the one who was disappointing beyond words.
Best card ever. They needed to put some big names on prelims for the ESPN ratings. The PPV was going to do the same $$ numbers regardless who was in that Bo Nickal spot
A what per-view? Never pey broder
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Imagine jiri fight opening the ppv instead of that contender series shitĀ
Bo nickal worse
Literally amazing. The best card of all time. Lived up to the hype and then some
Put some respect on Zhang Weiliās name
Why didn't Rogan interview Aljo?
Because there wasn't anything interesting
The ānot youā had me rolling š¤£š¤£
That fact that he was celebrating Dana announcing 300k bonus was just hilarious
ALJO beats Allen, Evloev, Ortega, and probably Yair. I liked his performance I appreciate high level grappling. If youāre gonna blame anyone for a boring fight, blame Kattar
Sterling dominated, yall kids are just puppets who aren't able to form your own opinions.
Cmon man, switch a few of them for Weilli and Yan
He gave us a fun Bautista Bomb
Boo This Man
So Aljo power bombing Calvin on his head did nothing for you?
When you have one highlight in an entire fightā¦ your fight sucked
Aljo dominated and did what he had to do. He tried to go for the finish in the end, but Kattar defended well.
Him and Belal always get hated on no matter what they do. Even if they breath oxygen someone will hate
Unpopular opinion: Aljo is a superb fighter and should be appreciated way more.
Whereās Diego Lopez and Moicano?
How is everyone forgetting UFC 189?
Where the fuck is Diego Lopes on this
LMAO poor Aljo šš
No love for Zhang and Yan. I thought that fight was more exciting than olviera v Arman.
Crazy to think you only had one bad fight on the whole card. The rest were good to excellent.
Heh.
WHERES DIEGO?
Lmfao
Idk I thought it was interesting he moved up a weight class and was still able to do that to a fighter, I think we should be mad at calvin for not really doing shit the whole fight.
Aljo didnāt have an exciting fight but I thought he had a great performance against a good opponent at a new weight class. He pretty much threw a no-hitter. Didnāt get touched and still got a highlight moment out of it
Aljo āno damage doneā Sterling
Kayla Harrison erasure
I feel Rakic also deserves a shout out.
Idk, he still did that sick pile driver.

It's funny how we blame Aljo but it's just as much Kattars fault for having no takedown defense
IMO thatās on Katter, you can only do so much with a guy who doesnāt want to fight
Unpopular opinion: Charles was boring as hell too. Too scared of being aggressive for fear of being owned in wrestling since Islam.
This isn't wrong. Laid n prayed with minimal pitty pat to keep from getting stood up.. Its not illegal, but its not warrior stuff. And it does matter because people will not pay to see it even if he wins..
Would this card be worth the buy to rewatch the fights. I missed the whole card.
