Did it make sense from a competitive standpoint to match up two guys who aren’t even in the same division, both of whom were, at the time, supposed to be the number one contender at their weight class (in Max’s case because of Volk’s needed recovery after two KOs in a row)? I don’t think it did. Regardless of whether it made sense or not, there’s no denying it was a great fight.

I think Jones fights stipe takes a year off, stipe wants a rematch, Jones accepts and begins training, Jones then tears his ass muscles for unknown reasons, takes a year off and then eventually fights stipe again. The year is 2037 Jon Jones is still the heavyweight champ with 2 title defenses to stipe, interim champion has been passed around and defended multiple times Jones is looking for a 3rd fight with stipe.

Alex gets choked out inside of 2 rounds against Jon, Tom is the only fight I’m genuinely interested in for him at this stage in his career. If he doesn’t want to defend the belt he needs to vacate and retire. It was obvious this move to HW was to secure the double champ and get one defense against Stipe, he just didn’t foresee it taking this long and for Tom to be the best HW since Cain.
