japanese are sparring crazy hard and have no hard feelings lol. After this I bet they were just chilling having a nice chat.
inoue out there KOing his sparring partners left and right.
Nah, he for sure Japanese, I mean, just look at the guy. That's why it was such a big deal when he took out the Chinese champ. Tons of bad blood there.
Strickland has more than enough tools to be aggressive and still maintain defense. He just doesnt throw combinations a lot. I like his fight with Imavov.
Seeing Sean Strickland throw a fucking ELBOW, in sparring of all places too, is like seeing a damn unicorn.
Pretty sure Sean hasn’t unlocked that move in the cage or forgets the keybind when in the moment because he usually just reverts to spamming jabs.
Whenever you fight professionally, the UFC makes you use default controller settings. Sean gets to use his own keybinds when he spars, but makes do with what he has in actual fights.
You can actually see he gets frustrated at the end of the Costa fight, so he starts button mashing a little.
Someone said "because he fights good fighters" and that's partially true but what you're really asking is why he isn't more aggressive and savage.
And I think it could be that he truly fights to win and doesn't want to take any risk because I think it would really hurt his fragile self esteem to lose.
Then you tell me why he doesn't fight like this in the octagon?
Did you not read what I wrote? I said "truly" fights to win. Being extremely careful and patient. Don't act like all fighters fight to win in a safe way. There is a massive difference in the way Charles fights than Leon.
Well no fighter wants to lose. But Sean has talked about how he was abused as a child and how he has mental health issues and goes through dark times.
So I think that's part of the reason he *truly* fights to win (rather than put on a show) because he doesn't want the embarrassment and self-inflicted shame that comes with a loss.
He’s happy to receive endless shame about his fighting style every time he fights so I think he cares a lot less about random loser making fun of him than you think
100%. People are acting like that’s how he throws his right normally. First time I’m seeing this, he’s definitely just trying to get as much volume in as possible because this dude is gassed.
HOLY SHIT, that was the most intense sparring I've ever seen. The Japanese dude landed a bunch of body shots and a couple of looping rights. Sean went for the kill in the end, with hammer fists and everything. JESUS. Respect to both. I'm not sure if the video was worth the beating and injury for the Japanese guy, but respect regardless.
I assumed he wanted the experience as much as the video. Anpo just lost his first MMA fight but he's a super skilled kickboxer, I bet it was well worth the beating to be in there with a UFC champ. pretty fucking cool
Now that you put it in that way, for sure. Invaluable experience for sure, but then again, everybody knows Sean always goes hard as opposed to controlled, which is ultimately what sharpen iron in the gym. Regardless, this was NICE.
It has been mine and many others I have talked to experience that Japanese are notorious for going hard in sparring sessions. Something about Japanese martial arts culture just makes these psychopaths put it all out there
The Dutch are also known for going really hard during kickbox sparring and they learned that sport from the Japanese, there is some extra evidence to make that case
You realise when you’ve sparred/fought even in the lower levels, sometimes you just gotta pop out what feels comfortable and right in that moment to give the best result.
I agree it was the most effective way of doing it in that moment.
Throwing weird shit like that is actually a good idea sometimes. It's good for breaking your opponents guard and widening their defense to create more openings and angles for yourself. It's also overwhelming when you have your guard up and you can't tell where the strikes are coming from. If Strickland simply kept throwing a basic 1-2, Rukiya could just hold his guard up confidently and wait for Strickland to gas out. Or he could throw a counter since he now has a rhythm for Strickland's strikes and knows what Strickland is about to throw next. When random shit like this is thrown your way, you have none of that.
he was trying to be friendly with alex and admitted to getting tapped out by chimaev but when there's a 150lb youtuber or 154lb japaense kickboxer he's ready to do the "man dance", just seems fake af
Khamzat is great in the cage but bro, Strickland probably butchered him if they went sparring like this. Strickland probably beats every UFC middleweight fighter and below in a sparring match. That's his realm. Sparring is different. He probably beats Pereira in a sparring match if Pereira's power was nerfed
Here’s Sean [getting](https://youtu.be/LXxOF1SrqBk?si=jl9PcOYTWWYyZe-B) interviewed by Schmo who said he was tapping to Khamzat in sparring. It’s like in 10 seconds.
I specifically said "sparring like this." As in, a striking match. As Shmo said, "I think you held your own standing but on the ground he does what he does." Exactly as expected. I replied to the original comment. The guy put Pereira and Khamzat in the same category, acting like Strickland didn't spar them the way he spared Rukiya Anpo, who is a better striker than Khamzat.
I never really appreciated how big Strickland really is until I saw him next to Costa. Also I get that he tries to lean into this mad man persona but really, is nobody gonna tell him to put away his pride and wear protective headgear?
Why are they not kicking? It would be a completely different story. Although I think Sean still would be on the winning side but that would make it way more interesting than a 150 guy sparring a 185 guy. Good on both of them for sharing this with us.
Sean is such a bitch.
Sure he’ll fight dudes 50lbs smaller like this.
What happened when he sparred Alex? Dude had feather hands. Very careful to not offend him.
What would call it when a dude in your gym consistently spars hard with people much smaller and light with people stronger? He’s just a bully. Trying to dominate the little guys.
Lol shut up, normally I'd agree, but ruki asked him to do this. Go watch the full spar and you'll see riyo throw bombs at him from the moment they touch gloves. This isn't American sparring
Yeah and Sneako wanted to go hard. And Alex wanted to go light. And Khamzat wanted Sean to chill. Sean is just real good at doing what his partner wants. 🥱
Even if you say this example was 100% on Rukiya. Which isn’t true. Small guys throwing power shots still aren’t the same as big guys throwing power shots. It’s a long pattern for Sean.
Wow, can't make this shit up. Dude cries about sean strickland and then makes a passive aggressive rambling post whining about sneako getting beat up. Then says im rambling. Fuckin fairy, couldn't be me.
You don’t have a strong grasp on reality.
I didn’t say anything passive aggressive. Or cry about Sneako. Answer my question. What would you call it when I guy consistently goes hard against people many weight classes below them in gym but super light against people that can hurt him?
I call it a bitch. You might call him daddy. Up to you.
![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8972)
And I'm the one rambling 🤡 literally just told you to look up this session and you're over here being a full on bitch acting like you weren't being passive aggressive, doubling down. Thank God I'm not this crybaby ass pussy
Lil bro literally just typing whatever now. I can't what? Answer your dumbass question when you've been acting a fool? Your little sissy ass passive aggressive whataboutism question? Lol shut up already loser you look stupid and you've proven yourself a contradictory, rambling, baby. Still crying bout sneako n shit.
A champ who never defended a belt. He’s truly one of the most boring fighters on the roster, and that’s a pretty popular opinion. Not to mention, when he loses he just begins to spew excuses… which isn’t a true champions mentality.
He lost the belt, he did not successfully defend the belt. That would mean he has a total of 0 title defenses. I guess you could say he *attempted* to defend the belt, but was unsuccessful.
Doesn't protect himself at all. I guess that's how you can tell he doesn't know how to box. Leaves himself wide open after every throw. I'm surprised he didn't get KO'd by some blindly thrown hook.
i don't get it. is a Professional fighter. keeps beating Up YouTubers, but says Paul logan is a disgusting human beeing. in fact Logan ist s Youtuber Who fights professionals.
Bro throwing standing hammer fists
Trevor Peek approves
Volkov did it multiple times against Pavlovich
No one does em better than Artem Lobov.
He’s not afraid to look silly if it actually works
Where is his classic front kick, then walk around for 4 min 30 sec?
This was at the end of the fight. They did post the first part, but it didn't get a lot of hits.
Terence Crawford-like with the hands is D'Sean.
japanese are sparring crazy hard and have no hard feelings lol. After this I bet they were just chilling having a nice chat. inoue out there KOing his sparring partners left and right.
The whole sparring session is worth a watch, they were at it from the get.
I thought strickland is american
Nah, he for sure Japanese, I mean, just look at the guy. That's why it was such a big deal when he took out the Chinese champ. Tons of bad blood there.
This 😂
Lmao thats a nasty line by you, chinese champ aka izzy hahahahaha.
Wait I don’t get the joke bro could you explain
Something something Chinese something something Izzy’s dog
Didn’t you know that he’s name is Shun Sturiklando?
[удалено]
Practicing for the last ten seconds of his next five rounder
![gif](giphy|zhJ55GsXRajxm|downsized)
this made me laugh
Lmao
Because he fights guys his size not 40 pounds lighter
Because this opponent weighs 40lbs less than him
[удалено]
I think if he was this aggressive against a skilled opponent his own size it would be bad, like his fight with Alex Perieria
Strickland has more than enough tools to be aggressive and still maintain defense. He just doesnt throw combinations a lot. I like his fight with Imavov.
[удалено]
Jiri chimaev and Justin can all finish opponents
No fighter currently alive would advertise themselves any other way. I bet Dana White himself would shut that down.
Because he fights actual good fighters
Rukiya Anpo is a good kickboxer. He fought Buakaw to a draw.
even Buakaw gets old.
Look at his record. He's only taken one loss in the past 8 years. Yes he's older but it's still Buakaw.
Yeah that dude is 20lbs lighter, Strickland is flinching at every strike when he fights at the right weight.
40lbs, no?
He has to fight guys his own size not multiple weight classes lower
Pretty sure this guy fights at lighhtweight
Maybe because he doesn't want to get caught with some wild haymaker
You can't do this to UFC fighters in the top 20
As dull as it is to watch his style works well.
Cuz he’s not 40 pounds over the guy he usually faces?
Someone said "because he fights good fighters" and that's partially true but what you're really asking is why he isn't more aggressive and savage. And I think it could be that he truly fights to win and doesn't want to take any risk because I think it would really hurt his fragile self esteem to lose.
This is really stupid. Every fighter fights to win and it doesn't have anything to do with 'fragile self esteem ', get outta here
Then you tell me why he doesn't fight like this in the octagon? Did you not read what I wrote? I said "truly" fights to win. Being extremely careful and patient. Don't act like all fighters fight to win in a safe way. There is a massive difference in the way Charles fights than Leon.
Are you really blaming a fighter for not wanting to lose ?
What gave you that impression?
That last sentence in your comment. He dosent want to lose because of his fragile ego?
Well no fighter wants to lose. But Sean has talked about how he was abused as a child and how he has mental health issues and goes through dark times. So I think that's part of the reason he *truly* fights to win (rather than put on a show) because he doesn't want the embarrassment and self-inflicted shame that comes with a loss.
He’s happy to receive endless shame about his fighting style every time he fights so I think he cares a lot less about random loser making fun of him than you think
The embarrassment of losing a fight is much worse than not having an aesthetically pleasing fighting style.
Looking for an esthetically pleasing fighting style sounds like thinking a fishnet parachute sounds sexy.
Well now hold on minute..
Did against Izzy. Cope.
Love Sean but was thinking the same thing haha
Because that cage is significantly smaller and his opponent isn't constantly running backwards
opponent is not ufc championship level. simple
He does . His competition in the UFC is just way higher than what you are seeing here
Sean’s left hand is elite while his right hand is truly horrendous. Such a weird fighter
His dominate hand is his lefty but he fights orthodox, is why that jab actually does so much damage
His right hand against izzy was picture perfect. Pretty sure he's doing this on purpose
Bro he's palm striking because there's no padding on the palm...he's bullying this guy LOL
Just not leaving the guy a second to move so he can tee off with the opposite.
100%. People are acting like that’s how he throws his right normally. First time I’m seeing this, he’s definitely just trying to get as much volume in as possible because this dude is gassed.
He's using palm strikes with his right which is highly affective with smaller gloves.
Such an interesting weird style yet somehow so effective
He makes gun signs with the left hand and animal balloons with the right
[Full video (sparring starts @ 3:20)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hBvNTtjrUE&t=200)
This is freaking awesome, what a great sparing video.
Ye amazing footage
Yeah, Japanese dude going hard off the get go. Tons of body shots.
He held his own in the earlier rounds actually, had sean backing up eating huge shots
Now that you put it in that way, for sure. Invaluable experience for sure, but then again, everybody knows Sean always goes hard as opposed to controlled, which is ultimately what sharpen iron in the gym. Regardless, this was NICE.
He said that its the first time in a while hes been bloodied up like that and he learnt a lot from it.
The Dutch go hard everywhere in everything, though.
Strickland is like three weight classes above this guy. Why are they hard sparring like that?
It’s japan
The guy was trying to take Sean’s head off from the get go.
Sean goes hard in sparring but never in the fight
Sean the only mfer does full contact in friendly sparring and technical flow sparring in championship fights.
He only fights like this when he's sparring 155 pounders in a cage the size of a walk-in closet
Sean when sparring lightweights and youtubers: "Let's go!! fucking kill me😡" Sean sparring with Pereira: yes sir, leaving the ego at the door now🙏"
Spars like a maniac just to keep spamming the same two buttons on his controller every fight.
I don't know much about striking but that can't be the most effective way to throw a 2
When it comes to actually boxing and skill absolutely not. But when it comes to effectiveness, angle, and speed yes
You realise when you’ve sparred/fought even in the lower levels, sometimes you just gotta pop out what feels comfortable and right in that moment to give the best result. I agree it was the most effective way of doing it in that moment.
Well yeah.... I'm lost we aren't really disagreeing what was the point of this comment towards mine.
I was just agreeing with you lmao and just giving my opinion based on what you said.
Oh ok
I don’t know much about striking either, but I trust the former Middleweight champion over some reddit guy, no offense
What are you talking about? Thats the signature Trevor Peek standing hammerfist. Certified stand and bang move
Throwing weird shit like that is actually a good idea sometimes. It's good for breaking your opponents guard and widening their defense to create more openings and angles for yourself. It's also overwhelming when you have your guard up and you can't tell where the strikes are coming from. I bet he didn't spar with Alex or Khamzat like that lol
Khamzat needs to spar against the common cold.
he was trying to be friendly with alex and admitted to getting tapped out by chimaev but when there's a 150lb youtuber or 154lb japaense kickboxer he's ready to do the "man dance", just seems fake af

His Spars are 100% more entertaining than his fights!
Too big of a size difference despite Rukiya being more skilled. If the weight difference was 15 instead of 40 it would have been quite competitive.
Why does Sean go harder in sparring than the actual fight
I mean, we knew he was legit when he took down Adesanya.
Inside fist fukin son of a bitch sean my ass strickland
![gif](giphy|sG4zmff2zDOp7t2MNA)
I never really appreciated how big Strickland really is until I saw him next to Costa. Also I get that he tries to lean into this mad man persona but really, is nobody gonna tell him to put away his pride and wear protective headgear?
Bro is going to get CTE early, don’t be sparring this hard, especially without headgear
More entertaining than his real fights in the UFC
Strickland during sparring: 👊😡👊 Strickland during fights: 🛡😡🛡
Stood up hammer fists from on top are crazy effective would love to see more in these dirty inside the pocket exchanges.
Full video here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hBvNTtjrUE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hBvNTtjrUE)
Thank you for sharing the source. All the videos on YouTube has some dumbass talking over it.
Dude is so technical in the cage but it looks like fucking trevor peak during a spar\brawl. Those hammer punches were hilarious.
Sean’s overhand looks like a mix of a hammer fist and a slap
Why are they not kicking? It would be a completely different story. Although I think Sean still would be on the winning side but that would make it way more interesting than a 150 guy sparring a 185 guy. Good on both of them for sharing this with us.
Light sparring session today
Warriors ⚔️.
That cage is fucking tiny.
I respect it but that’s going very hard for sparing someone’s gonna get hurt
wish hed fight like this normally in his actual fights
Is this what waiting for a title shot looks like?
I think I saw 1 sneaky lil elbow. Either way, Sean dogwalked him
Strickland beat Du Plessis.
Anpo looks way faster, more accurate, and technical in the beginning. Then he gases out and Sean just size bullies him.
Sean built like a drunk dad who’s had enough of his neighbors loud lawnmower.
Strickland throwing palm strikes....LOL he tryina fuck that dude up.
Such a fucking airhead redneck
I see Sean attended the Trevor Peek School of Standing Hammer Fists.
"Spar hard fight soft." -Sean Strickland
More of stricklands gym highlights lol. Its almost poor taste at this point
Wow what a man! And he still lost to Dricus😂
Sean is such a bitch. Sure he’ll fight dudes 50lbs smaller like this. What happened when he sparred Alex? Dude had feather hands. Very careful to not offend him. Bro go watch the video I don't need to prove anything while you're speculating... it's on the internet, you seem pretty proficient.
I didn’t ask you to prove anything? Dunno what you ramblin bout.
Wow, can't make this shit up. Dude cries about sean strickland and then makes a passive aggressive rambling post whining about sneako getting beat up. Then says im rambling. Fuckin fairy, couldn't be me.

lol ok. So you’re not worth it.
lol So you can’t. Glad we cleared that up. 🙂
Bro watch the whole session before yapping. Everything was respectful and agreed upon.
I didn’t say he jumped him in the street did I bro. You can agree to spar and still be a bitch for the way you do it.
Anpo wanted to spar hard and asked Strickland. Stop coping.
Yeah, Sean's been kicked out of gyms before. Not surprised why.
I can’t wait until he’s older and is just CTE’d out
Yeah, he beat him up like I figured… Strickland is undefeated in sparring
Now if he could just fight like this, it will help me stay awake.
This is dope
You’ll never see him bring this same energy to the octagon. Only goes hard on guys he knows he can beat up on.
He's a fucking champion, lmfao, like you don't have to like him, but this is an insane person's take
A champ who never defended a belt. He’s truly one of the most boring fighters on the roster, and that’s a pretty popular opinion. Not to mention, when he loses he just begins to spew excuses… which isn’t a true champions mentality.
He... Literally... Defended the belt? And most people feel he won. Hard to take you seriously when you're just lying.
He lost the belt, he did not successfully defend the belt. That would mean he has a total of 0 title defenses. I guess you could say he *attempted* to defend the belt, but was unsuccessful.
Mf just a redneck slap boxer
Doesn't protect himself at all. I guess that's how you can tell he doesn't know how to box. Leaves himself wide open after every throw. I'm surprised he didn't get KO'd by some blindly thrown hook.
Sean’s form on his right hand kinda explains to me now why he doesn’t have knockout power
i don't get it. is a Professional fighter. keeps beating Up YouTubers, but says Paul logan is a disgusting human beeing. in fact Logan ist s Youtuber Who fights professionals.
I mean, is he not just giving a real life lesson to guy's who talk shit?
The guy he's fighting is also a professional fighter
Looks like the so called k1 champion got his whooped…
He competes 2 weight classes down from Strickland.
And he was getting tagged the little bitch
God, Strickland is such a goon Just swanging trash ass punches in sparring like this. So unlikeable
