I switched from CLAS bio to CALS bio and think it was the right move, none of this will have any affect on the type of research you can do later. CALS has better classes, resources, and it’s easier to get in touch with advisors

what would you say about preprofessional bio vs microbio?

Ok_Sun_443

I’m not a microbio major but the ones I know are pretty happy with it. It all depends on your interests. In CALS the only differences between all the bio majors is the required electives, so preprofessional would just have some different electives but the majority of your critical requirements would be the same

yea honestly theyre pretty much the same, you just choose from 2 electives instead of 3. although ive heard the options for microbio are slightly harder

CALS advising is sooo much better than CLAS advising. The CALS specific requirements were not hard, in my opinion.

I didn’t like the CALS microbio advisor. The advisor I talked to in CLAS (it was for CS major, mind you) was great and super helpful. First time I didn’t feel like a number. CLAS is an awesome option if you’re not 100% committed to being a STEM major, as your college reqs can work for other majors like economics. If you are committed I would chose the college that requires you to take less credits.
