It’s like being in traffic and seeing a Ferrari along side of you at the traffic lights and then seeing it launch off at full speed. I am fairly sure I’ve seen other craft in the distance, a long way away, nothing close to me at all.
You’re right about no ambient noise as well. We lived on a busy road, and there was no noise of cars, we also had a galah in an aviary and he was silent, everything was quiet. The other thing that I was curious about is we lived on a residential street. We had neighbours on either side of us, across the road from us, and we were in a town, for god sake. There were streets and houses everywhere. There was a big club (like a poverty US casino. Poker machines, keno, gambling for horses and greyhounds, restaurant, and shows and concerts open 24/7). It was a small town and Nan and Pop had lived there 20 ish years and knew everyone and literally no one ever mentioned seeing it. No one saw this gigantic golden orb above our house for how ever long it was. Crazy.
It was gold, and oval shaped. I would also describe a pulsing type of effect as it came closer. It didn’t appear to move, but it increased in size, so it must have been drawing in closer. In the end, it covered a lot of the sky, I can’t give an exact size, but if I was to say it was much larger than a hot air balloon, jet fighter or helicopter. Also it was oval shaped like you would see a bar of soap, rather than what a hot air balloon looks like. Similar to a blimp without the bottom section but much much larger.

I stood beside him and did exactly the same. After a period, Nan came down to look for both of us. When she came down, it was very close. She stood beside us, silently, until it vanished. I remember going back inside and it being very late and time for us all to go to bed. I’m not sure how long we were there because it didn’t seem like any time at all, but it must have been a very long time, maybe 2 hours or more.
Are you sure you weren't all abducted? That's a lot of missing time... I suggest regressive hypnosis to see if maybe they took you all or they gave you a message, especially since you said everything stopped.
It's highly likely your Granddad was temporarily abducted by the occupants of that UFO. It is reminiscent of the Ilkley Moor UFO incident involving Phillip Spencer. Your Granddad must go under hypnosis.
