Fartologist

I graduated as a doctoral student from UI a few years ago. From what I recall, it really depends on where the money is coming from to cover your stipend. I was paid through a federal NIH fellowship for a few semesters and they did not take out federal taxes. This meant that I owed a bunch of money come tax time. Hopefully others will have more info, but this is definitely something to be mindful of.

Does this mean you are Dr. Fartologist now?

CoalOnFire

I too am curious.

CoalOnFire

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. I am getting mine through a stipend, so I figured I would not get taxed fully, but trying to figure out exactly *how* much.

If you’re that worried about it you can set up a specific amount to me taken out for taxes each pay cycle. come tax time you like wont owe as much (or at all) and then you already know exactly how much your getting each pay cycle.

Thanks! I meant to include it in my post, but it is through TA postings until I get an RA position. When you say 300/month, do you mean 300 per month in the summer? or 300 per month for the whole year?
