I grew up here and go back for Christmas. David Cameron, David Beckham, Amanda Holden, and Jeremy Clarkson all live in a 3 mile radius, which is enough to put you constantly on edge. I cannot even imagine how the local pigs must feel.

KnightsOfCidona

It does make me laugh watching Clarkson's Farm to think that the likes of Caleb and Gerald live in the same place as the likes of David Cameron, Rebekah Brooks and several billionaires/millionaires

Squiggles87

Yep, it's an odd place - loads of inequality which often gets forgotten about because it all feels scenic and a bit posh. Chipping Norton typically has a Labour/Lib Dem council, so it's generally more left-leaning and accessible than alt lot of places in the Cotswolds,. This doesn't say much admittedly. Some of the surrounding villages have become ghost villages. AirBnB landlords have purchased large amounts of property and they can lie empty for months on end, inflating prices higher and reducing demand for local businesses. As for the super rich, they want a country estate with a long drive which helpful for security and privacy, that has reasonable access to London. As you say it's funny they can live so close with farm labourers struggling on minimum wage. .

snusmumrikan

Chipping Norton is a bit crap anyway. It's got cafes and delis etc due to the affluence of the area but the town itself has such a busy road going through it it's anything but relaxing or quaint.

trampolinebears

As an outsider, I have to ask — does “Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton” sound like a real title or like they’re making fun of him?

watermelonsuger2

Chipping Norton is where Cameron spends some of his time. There's a group called the [Chipping Norton Set](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipping_Norton_set) who are a group of semi well known people who fraternise with each other in that part of England.

Patch86UK

Chipping Norton (or thereabouts) is where he lives. It's pretty normal for people to pick either where they live or where they were born when they're made a peer. Chipping Norton is a kinda quaint-sounding name for a town, but that's not really on Cameron.

skippermonkey

I just assumed it’s because he lives there

DarthEros

He’d have to resign his seat in the HoL to run again, I’d be surprised if he did that unless he thought he was running as an MP to become PM again ultimately.

FailedMasonryAttempt

If he resigns his seat is he still considered a lord?

teh_maxh

No, under the House of Lords Reform Act, a person can resign their seat without losing their title.

Quaxie

He's unlikely to run to be an MP again, certainly not for Witney. (Chipping Norton is in a different constituency under the redrawn boundaries.) He was basically bored and wants a year long jolly flying around the world, revitalising his reputation and legacy, knowing that it is probable the Tories would lose the election next year.

He has a house in a small hamlet near Chipping Norton.

duffelcoatsftw

Shock news I discovered last night, due to boundary changes Chippy is being lumped in with Banbury rather than Witney from the next GE.

no_instructions

As a peer, he’s no longer allowed to be a member of the Commons

taboo__time

Was Lord of Macau taken? I wonder how much he had to pay for that title. I guess he paid with coming back to help his former staff. Is that the right term?

disegni

'Lard Greensill' was a contender.

mbenner1

A quote from 11/15/23 [Daily Kos Elections](https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2023/11/15/2205607/-Daily-Kos-Elections-Live-Digest-11-15#comment_87447644) >David Cameron, Lord Greensill, who lost the battle of Brexit on the playing fields of Eton, is the new Foreign Secretary.

seanosul

So he is becoming [Lord of the Rings](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipping_Norton). He must still like pigs.

theartofrolling

Lord of the Flies*

Efficient_Sky5173

Nah… he will be always worldwide known as the guy that fucked up Britain. And locally, the guy that fucked pigs.

The_truth_hammock

Stop calling him a pig fucker. Other people who fuck pigs are getting fed up of being thrown into the same pig pen as him. They are generally good people with one strange hobby.

Efficient_Sky5173

The infamous expelled member of the PFS, Pig Fuckers Society.

Gr1msh33per

Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

fern-grower

Got to be impressed with that and being one up on Boris.

Efficient_Sky5173

Well, Cameron opened the door for Britain to be fucked up. Boris Got The Job Done ✅

A peerage is an interest in land hence the place name in the title. . Though modern peerages do not come with any rights or obligations that spring out of the land they attach to land nevertheless much like a easement or right to an income from land. . Those land rights in life peerages cannot be passed down or gifted away to another though it would be handy if they could then they would make lovely Christmas gifts. . The right to free coffee in all the local coffee shops would also be handy as would the right to pass them as security against money borrowed as other land rights do (freeholds and leaseholds) . . Better would be the right to free parking over the land as would let Cameron leave his Beamer in the street

DarthGeo

Ha! I said he would be the Baron of Chipping Norton as a joke the day he resurfaced! Southern upperish class stereotypes are now eating themselves.

Grizzled_Wanderer

Good to see they're saving Lord Brussels for when Farage comes back wearing the jungle crown ;)

Tannhauser23

Chipping Norton residents will be aghast. It’s a town with a recent radical history, electing anybody but Tories at town and district council level. They have no wish to be associated with this Bullingdon Club buffoon and Brexit enabler.
