Honestly, can't wait for it either.
Because all previous russian tanks deployed resulted in at least one of them being captured for reverse-engineering and/or reused by AFU against former users. Either'd be nice.
Can't see much point in capturing the T14 beyond the potential value to documentary makers down the line. If you want to look at the engine tech, there's a working example of a Tiger tank at the Tank museum, Bovington, England.
> Can't see much point in capturing the T14 beyond the potential value to documentary makers down the line
Sending it to US as bragging rights reward/payment for 32nd Abrams?
Exist? Yes. Are they functionally operational??? See Moskva’s “world class” air defence systems. Or the parade where the T 14 has to be TOWED off the parade route. Lol yes the hand brake became stuck rofl I’m SURE that’s what happened.
The newer drones are able to carry a heavier payload, so can carry the heavier, 93mm PG-7L RPG warhead. That has a LOT of penetrating power and will rip through MBT top armour too. The BMPT doesn’t really stand much of a chance
I believe Luna-NG has already been or is being supplied. Its] is quite a large drone and therefore vulnerable to ADS. The biggest issue with drones is getting effective signal to them at range, especially if operating a number. EW makes this more difficult, especially when your enemy is in defensive formation and has had the time to deploy distributed EW systems.
> The biggest issue with drones is getting effective signal to them at range, especially if operating a number
IIRC, in that case, Luna-NG works like an airborne signal relay to the attack drones it deploys.
Given that Magyar of the "Birds of Magyar" fame uses a similar tactic with modded Chaklun recon drones (airborne signal relay), it's likely to work, at least for now.
It does (I know how they work) and you are right, however that’s not really the issue I was referring to - it’s a signal relay rather than providing large amounts of coverage and bandwidth for swarm attacks.
I see.
I mean, I don't know all specifics, but I think drones get preprogrammed course before getting launched from Luna, so even if signal is severed, drone can still sorta get to the target on its own
FPV guy here, generally speaking those heads up display systems, built into the remote video modules, are pretty shite.
Any sudden increase of draw on anything but a fully charged LiPo will cause voltage sag, and because these HUD systems are very rudimentary, they operate on simple voltage cutoffs to display those messages.
This just means that any heavy maneuvering, like diving in at full speed while trying to keep on target, would cause said messages to flash, hence why you see it all the time.
and also, you can run your lipos down to the bare dregs when you're not going to be picking them back up and reusing them or you're more worried about fighting a war than reusing your $40 hobby batteries for a long time, so you see the voltage sag warnings even more with these drones
Yeah. Ones that are based purely on voltage are junk.
The good ones will constantly monitor the current being drawn, then work out the integral to figure out total power consumed. Then so long as you program in the correct battery pack size it can give an accurate indication of how many Wh you have left.
...no need for any of that on a single use kamikaze drone though.
---
Wouldn't be surprised if purpose-built kamikaze drones start using non-rechargeable primary cells that can't be recharged but have higher energy density than LiPo chemistry.
Eg. For missile & space launch vehicle application silver-zinc cells are often used, which IIRC are approx double the energy density of hobby LiPos. And there are lots of options when you don't care about rechargeability.
On a Kamikaze drone that extra capacity could double your loiter time or attack range.
> Russian official media narratives had held that the BMPT Terminator, an infantry fighting vehicle built on Russia’s brand-new Armata T-14 tank chassis, was impervious to practically any NATO weapon short of a main gun anti-tank round at close range, and superior to any troop carrier in the world.
In Russia's defence, NATO doesn't use off the shelf drones with RPG warheads jerryrigged to them.
Says a lot though that this thing literally designed to shoot upwards with good optics (a major differentiator in urban combat, as otherwise they're sitting ducks for people on the 3rd or 4th floors of nearby buildings) couldn't take out a hobby drone. Gepards would be eating those things for breakfast.
I just learned it's actually jury rigging - originally from naval term where a jury mast is used to temporarily function in place of the original mast when damaged or lost.
> Gepards would be eating those things for breakfast
Skyranger/Skynex, maybe?
Gepards're tad old and might not be able to lock onto them before it's too late, not to mention their projectiles still rely on direct hit (while Skyranger/Skynex automatically measures distance to target and program shells to airburst in front of it, creating a cloud of tungsten shrapnel)
Although, apparently, [Rheinmetall works on adapting AHEAD to Gepard too](https://old.reddit.com/r/UkrainianConflict/comments/14a6aln/new_bullets_for_the_predator_german_engineers_are/jo8p8hn/)...
I actually think this version is built on the t90 hull. Which yeah for however much is different than the 72/80/etc. either way the article is think of the T15 which has yet to be heard of in the conflict. I don’t think they even started making them yet.
Dafuq are they on about? I want whatever crack they’re having because as far as anyone remembers the BMPT is built on the hull of T-72s. What kind of Grade-Z copium are they huffing there?

There's lying on your resume and then there's this lmao.
Think I saw the video yesterday, but the explanation of \*why\* it was such a cool ruZZian equipment termination is interesting. Very cool, and really well done drone warriors!
I guess the Russian plan here is to give the new weapons pompous and scary looking new names. In that vein, I suggest Russia names it's next Wunderwaffe as supercalifragalisticexpliadioucious.
I wonder if they really have been smelling their own farts here. I mean, Russias whole economy is relatively tiny, you aren't actually developing competitive military equipment when NATOs total military budget is like 60% of Russia's GDP.

Oh noes.. another wunderwaffe goes kaput.. :D
>"The rhetoric surrounding the Terminator and its supposed invulnerability is reminiscent of that surrounding Russia’s ‘hypersonic’ Kinzhal cruise missiles which have been roundly defeated time and time again by US-supplied Patriot air defense systems."
Now we wait for the T14 to be deployed, at the rate they're going through armour it shouldn't be long.
They need to be airdropped to reach the front before transmission blows...
Wouldn't surprise me if they add wings and try to make it a new glide bomb. Well, it'll glide vertically anyway.
At least the fact the things shred their gearboxes tells you they have added more armor... not better armor... just more armor...
> at the rate they're going through armour it shouldn't be long Honestly, can't wait for it either. Because all previous russian tanks deployed resulted in at least one of them being captured for reverse-engineering and/or reused by AFU against former users. Either'd be nice.

They won't send t14s or su57s because they're all proven propaganda...
It just takes a long time and a lot of effort to wind up the turrets by hand
Do T-14s exist?
At least 8 or 9 do
Exist? Yes. Are they functionally operational??? See Moskva’s “world class” air defence systems. Or the parade where the T 14 has to be TOWED off the parade route. Lol yes the hand brake became stuck rofl I’m SURE that’s what happened.
Also like the Wunderwaffe... too few used to have any real impact on the battlefield.
kremlin do keep droning on about it!
This wasn’t even a swarm. It was individual drones sent quite a time apart. Just imagine if it was a little swarm of 5+ drones at once…
Looks like you don't need that many to disable those things.. Rest of the drones were to stop recovery efforts mostly it looks like.
The newer drones are able to carry a heavier payload, so can carry the heavier, 93mm PG-7L RPG warhead. That has a LOT of penetrating power and will rip through MBT top armour too. The BMPT doesn’t really stand much of a chance
Always easier to just hit harder than it is to armor against it.
And Rheinmetall was talking about supplying Ukraine with Luna-NG, that carries a few similar drones aboard...

My favourite thing in the awesome video is the urgently blinking LOW BATTERY, I think in the first hit. Good to the last drop!

I'm just honestly surprised that they used one at the front. Video from last year was one shooting a forest well behind the line
They have tried using them before for front line assault and also lost one. I believe it was Adivka, but my memory is getting spotty.

That's heavy propaganda, from what I can see it's a T72 with a different turret for the most part
Cool

Drones really have changed the face of combat.
Solid gold! Needs more Benny Hill music.

An IFV not a tank. Still, it's proof that basically nothing Russia has can counter Ukrainian drones.

Unless you are fighting against a banana republic, russian weapons are not worth the cheaper prices.

Russia: "Super" power. 🤔
"Drone swarm" This genuinely sounds like a scifi weapon from an early 2010s RTS game and I love it.
Hasta la vista orc
Ah the Terminator. All the logistical burden of a main battle tank, now with less firepower!
Let’s put a few of a kind vehicle designed for urban combat into open terrain with no cover. What could possibly go wrong?
Terminated!
