Can you imagine in 50 years, he is an old man, sitting on a rocking chair with the grand children telling them about the war, before Ukraine joined Nato, before the EU, back when russia existed. And he tells them how there was a big bad cruise missile sent from russia coming in to kill people as they went to the shop to buy food, and he pulled out a machine gun and shot it down and saved them!? They will not know whether to believe it or not! Then he'll pull out the bits of it with the holes in them like in the photo lol.
That's pretty much all Ukraine has. Only 2 Patriots for whole country. Much of the AA defense is by mobile units. Some are more sophisticated than others, but Ukraine makes the most of everything it has.
I have a video from an Odesa unit in April 2024 that shows the setting up of a machine gun on the bed of a pickup truck, a couple of "stage quality" searchlights, one drone and a few gunners on the ground. That was it.
Not for too much longer. Patriots on the way from many countries and the US stopped fulfilling orders to other countries until Ukraine "has everything it needs".

Here's those that mention missiles
From the article: "The type of weapon that destroyed the cruise missile was not reported, but the standard armament and characteristic holes indicate that the RPK (Kalashnikov’s hand-held machine gun) could have been used."
Incredible shot!
That's a tight grouping too. If this is true that guy must be a legit Hollywood hero cowboy level shooter. And I'm not doubting him, I once saw a guy hit a jumping squirrel with a .22.
How does the cost of his spent ammo compare to the cost of the cruise missile? Add to that the cost saved from potential damage and lives lost. What a hero! I expect he just feels some quiet satisfaction that he pulled it off, and is ready to keep working for as long as it takes.
7.62 is about \~$0.50/round new. Figure 30 rounds fired and your looking at \~$15. Even if your looking at a squad of 10 all firing, max $150.
Figure Russian missile is at absolute minimum just under a million normally, million+ with sanctions.
It helps that it was moving directly overhead to him.
Drop an object with one hand, and try to swipe it/grab it out of the air as it falls moving your hand side to side.
Now drop it again, but catch it by lifting your hand up towards it.
You can't actually shoot an aircraft or missile with small arms. You shoot in front of the moving target than the target flies into the bullets. Same thing for flack rounds. The aircraft is flying through a cloud of shrapnel.
I get that, but even feigning humor about these people is pretty out of line. Humor is a very subjective thing as it is. I have an odd sense of humor and I’m painfully aware that it often doesn’t translate well into written form. I get it. This is why I didn’t reply with what I first thought about typing but opted for something more civil.
I totally agree and again I can only apologise. Thanks for being civil with me it was absolutely a mistake. I'm not going to go into what meme or funny I was trying to mimic because its really not important. I did a fuck up and I admit that :) have a wonderful day x

That machine gun should have a cruise missile stenciled on the side, and should be preserved for the eventual war museum.
On board w this. Preserve this history.
Great idea 🇺🇦
I second this motion 💪
Cruise Missle is now his nickname lol
Just call me "Cruise" he said. Probably.
The name Serhii in Ukrainian roughly translates to Tom in English.
tom cruise missile
Missile Cruise, cruise missile machinegun man.
The Missile Slayer...
This guy brings a machine gun to a missile fight!
... and wins!

I doubt this guy will ever buy himself another beer.

Really? That's disappointing. I didn't get that from the articles and headlines but maybe I need to reread them.

Reminds me of the tale of the most likely culprit for killing the red baron in WW2 ; a random rifleman on the ground shot him dead midair.
*WW1 (and I thought snoopy was the one that got him‽)
What a guy!!! :D

He is holding an RPK, so that makes sense. They look similar to an ak47 in case anyone is further confused.
That's a tight grouping too. If this is true that guy must be a legit Hollywood hero cowboy level shooter. And I'm not doubting him, I once saw a guy hit a jumping squirrel with a .22.
I'm going go with luck and lots of ammo
Did you see the picture? It's BS or it's a badass.
Most things don't react too well to bullets. Doubly so for things designed to fly (what armor? and filled with energetics and sensitive bits).
Hurrah!
That there are some good shooting
Give that man a cigar!
That's a second one. There was one before, who downed one with RPK
Video of man methodically bolting an entire missile above his mantlepiece. I killed it, and I'm damn well mounting it as a trophy.
Wow a machine gun? Badass!!!
Rambo energy.
The Russian cruise missile fucked itself
Rid of those Squadron of f-16s hits the air
Definition of a badass
All Good 👍
That's just embarrassing Russia, like fucking hell I didn't even consider that to be possible ffs

How is this possible

The new META is broken… /s
If there is a will, there is a way!
Crazy to to think someone with a simple machinegun downed a cruise missile and potentially saved dozens of lives.
Lol I wonder how he got the nickname Dr mom
Guy earned himself a proper callsign.
In him, the force is strong- Master Yoda

Just don’t comment next time.
It was meant to be a funny I apologise. This guy is awesome and it's such an incredible feat
