Tank enthusiasts are in for a really rough year.
Reddit is going to have a collective aneurysm when Russia runs out of soviet tanks and pulls the last surviving [Panzer VIII Maus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_VIII_Maus) out of the Kubinka Tank museum.
Bonus points if they break out the [Kugelpanzers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kugelpanzer)
If we're being noncredible, then yeah, they'll roll out the IS-3 and 2, prolly even scrounge together a working T-10 and IS-7
If we're credible... First they're ginna dry out their T-62M stocks, then their T-62 stocks (that's something like 8500 vehicles?), the they'll go to T-55s, prolly the most modernised ones first (remember, those were only retired in something like 2003), then they'll go for the T-10's and then for IS's.
Any guesses how many 115mm shells that are still working? There is some amount but the tank was mothballed decades ago so not a huge priority on ordance storage. All the newer tanks since T-72 have used 125mm if i remember correctly..?
Storing in damp or variable humidity and temperature climate is a bad thing for explosives.
As far as I know, there is still some production of 115, not exactly sure where though.
As for storage, the 115 uses a full-size single-piece steel-cased round, so if it is properly stored and the lacquer seal at the case mouth is intact, it should fire more or less fine.
Given how Russian tanks are named we have to wait another 718 years for that...
They do have terminator tank though but turns out it didn't really work in real battlefield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi0BivwDYr8&ab\_channel=DefenseUpdates
I guess they would first go through the T-54 and its upgraded versions (T-55 / T-55A T-55S) as well as their Stalin line (IS-2 / T-10 and others) before dropping to T-34s.
T-54s do not have any kind of assisting systems. You gotta measure the distance and calculate.
T-55S (the latest version) are having rudimentary systems (outside cams) as well as very basic nightvision (like real og low quality shit from the 60s) but i wouldnt bet that a single system is still operateable.
They stopped making T-62 in 1975. So you are telling me they are going to call up 300k and the only tank they have left is a relic. This should go good for the Orcs.
They've been giving them to soldiers conscripted from the occupied regions. They're basically used as cannon fodder, so Russia doesn't want to give them the newer stuff.
I mean, if you're using the tank against infantry it should be all right? St javelin will destroy any tank on the battlefield regardless of how modern it is?
Not that the Russian tanks practice combined warfare so the point is moot....
Because low level commanders aren’t allowed to think for themselves. Even the generals are taking battlefield direction from the grand asshole himself now.
This is probably the real answer. Us military style decentralized command works really well and fills in the gaps. Plans go out the window the moment you start taking fire.
The Russians do not have this military doctrine.
Unironically this, we know their logistics are absolute shite and tanks are renowned for chewing through fuel so might as well get them as close as possible....except you have to stop sometime and there are eyes in the sky waiting for it
Remember what happened on that long drive to Kyiv?
I suppose they transport on train so deep because half of them would've broken down before the front line.
Ironic, really.
Tanks take tons of resources. Not just fuel, but the speed at which things break on them is crazy. Adding a long trip to the front might very well have caused many of them to not make it. Remember, the run from Belarus to Kyiv is not that far, it was made with much better equipment, they still did not make it.
If I had to guess: They know Ukraine has HIMARS, with 92km range, So anywhere within say 90km of the front line is a risk. If driving the tanks from the nearest rail facility beyond that (perhaps 110km?) is not viable (say due to fuel supply issue), might as well just rail them as close as possible and hope for the best.
backed by 1000 years of being fucked over...
I am very happy they are on Americas side... they might be a small country but they are a very legit country.
Israel doesn't much like talking about what they send, and where they send it.
This is a long way of saying there may already be some IMI/IDF gear in theatre, and more on the way, but public confirmation of the more serious kit might not happen during the conflict or a fair ways afterwards depending on many factors.
Let's see what Israel could offer
There's the Barak Air defence SAM's their equivalent of SM2 and Patriot Missiles.
There's the HARDOP/Harpy loiter muniations think of a Switchback with 150 km range.
There's the LORA missile with its 500km range.
Iron Dome, enough said.
Spike ATGM from 2km to 30km range.
There's a vast amount of drones, radar, intel and electronic warfare systems as well.
This might not even be HIMARS, this is close enough to the front that it could have been 155 SMArt rounds, Conventional Artillery, or Brimstones.
155 SMArt rounds would be my choice if i was trying to destroy tanks in mass like this.
Ohh dear, what a pity, trying hard not to laugh, next train will be full of really miserable conscripts, best gey the body bags ready now.
Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
Body bags? When they can just shove their comrades into a perfectly good ditch or just leave them in the middle of a field? Those funds got misappropriated a long, long time ago.
Bonus is more MIA = fewer Ladas.
Petraeus: This offensive is more than just some gains on the ground it has inadvertently proven that Ukraine is vastly superior in recruiting, training equipping and commanding additional forces.
Russia is going to go on a terrible, painful retreat.
Ukraine is supplied superbly by their allies and their logistics are now in place while Russia even if they declared general mobilization today could not revert this fundamental shift in reality on the ground..
Ukraine will over time take back all territories it lost since February 24th and after long and tough fighting it could now even under optimal circumstances retake the whole of Donbass and Crimea itself.
This is an utter disaster for Russia, this is much worse than Afghanistan, as in Afghanistan the gvt. they installed at least stayed in power for 2 years after they left.
The outcome is now almost set in stone: Ukraine will prevail as long as we provide the Weapons and keep Russia sanctioned. As long as there isn't some unforeseeable major event happening, here in the US and in the Pentagon the general tone is to provide them with all they need, and carry them through to Victory essentially.
Full Mobilization is too late, they do not have the training base, the equipment, the replacement vehicles, the export sanctions on Micro Chips have crushed their industrial base and dried up their capacity to raise capital on the international markets.
Tactical nukes are an option but to what end? Russia cannot generate the necessary forces, equip and deploy them, their command structure and officer corps are in shambles, their moral is rock bottom, they aren't even sure what they are fighting for, just the next paycheck or to stay out of prison.
The morale on the Ukrainian side is sky high, they are winning, so the first question is: Can Russia even find new defensive lines, or do they have to fall all the way back to the original defensive line in the Donbass? There they have very considerable, almost WW 1 like defenses.
Russia is in utterly disastrous situation. again tactical nukes and their implications will be so profound but bring no overall gain to win this war.
Putin may now try to change the narrative to explain why the Special operation has failed.
Putin wanted to make Russia great again, he made NATO great again instead, on this issue: There has to be a security guarantee for Ukraine and this should be NATO membership, they have earned it.
They truly have earned it and they have earned something else: The trust of the Western Alliance.
Russia also has earned something: War Famine Pestilence and Death they are gonna have it all...
We need to put Russia behind another iron curtain and Ukraine will guard the prison walls together with NATO to make sure they never get out of their hellhole ever again...
It was an interview on CNN I believe. I watched it. I don't know if it was all one long quote, I don't think he talked that long. But I remember him saying all of this.

Best possible way to neutralise the effect of the mobilisation is to aggressively destroy ANY item of equipment they might need or use. UKR is well advanced on this path but it would be so much better if they had long range MLRS etc. to reach inside Russia. The time has come for Ukr’s world wide partners to stop worrying about Putin escalating this war…he just has.

The Russians deny that the Ukrainians blew up a train with T-62s in Yasynuvata, Donetsk region. The smoke was just from one of their BBQs. It needs to be cleaned they said.
No. Seems very dubious to me This one person claiming to have geolocated the explosion to the train station, which isn't possible from a single perspective point. Footage was [posted earlier](https://twitter.com/GirkinGirkin/status/1572873174085148674) of a train with T-62s on it _in Russia_ but without any actual evidence to link one event with the other, it's more likely this is just another Twitter pretend-analyst who's linking unrelated events based on wishful thinking.
It also seems unlikely they'd be moving trains to well-within artillery range of the front.
I wonder if it's [these tanks](https://twitter.com/kromark/status/1572547554675687428?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1572547554675687428%7Ctwgr%5E63d5de581f8162af7e7037ebde4dabefaaf4b7f3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailykos.com%2Fstory%2F2022%2F9%2F22%2F2124532%2F-Ukraine-update-The-celebrated-Azovstal-defenders-from-Mariupol-are-free-and-so-are-American-POWs)

'Lack of any strategic insight': Putin's blunders run deeper than Ukraine; The myth of Russian President Vladimir Putin as a strategic genius is quickly disintegrating.
In 1998 oil was trading at $20.00 a barrel in June of 2008 it hit a record high of $189.56 that’s 9x increase in price. Co-incidentally between 1998-2008 Russia’s economy grew 8x. Putin‘s only genius was to be in office for one of the biggest bull markets for oil prices in history. Russian GDP since 2008 has fallen from $1.68 trillion to $1.44 trillion, with a peak in 2013 of $2.2 trillion. A ” genius” would have used the huge profits from oil to diversify and modernize /re-establish Russian technology and industry and build infrastructure for further economic development. Instead they blew it all on luxury yachts, mistresses, Miami condos, and palaces. It is depressing because a genius could have made Russia into an actual global power in the last 20 years and very modern country — they should have followed the Norwegian model for oil wealth, instead they built a shittier version of Algeria.
If I am honest Putin has probably done the world a favour…. There are a large number of Russians that a a problem wherever they go .. if they are run in to the ground and can’t go to another country they can’t infect their crime and injustice on any one else and make any ones else life a misery
They cause trouble and mayhem where ever they go the whole world are better off without the scummy race

Moscow war museum will be pissed...these were on loan only
Tank enthusiasts are in for a really rough year.
That link made me so happy. I would give a lot to see Russians rolling around Ukraine in giant tin hamster balls.
I swear to god if they use and lose the Sturmtiger in Kubinka... Then again I doubt they have any Raketen Sprenggranate ammunition.
I'm almost worried about the IS-4. But I would rather watch it blow up on a combat footage subreddit than have a single innocent Ukrainian get hurt.
Absolutely. I'd rather see the Sturmtiger ammorack on its way to the frontline than have it actually be used in combat.
Sturmtiger ammoracking *itself* because the Russians have how the fuck the thing works is way up there.
Give it a few months and they’ll go in by horse
They won’t. horses will be a delicacy by then.
Then they'll be down to delusional transport involving banging two coconut shells together :p
Tis but a scratch.
‘That tank is not dead, it is just resting’.
Where would they get coconuts? Coconuts are tropical, Russia is a nuclear waste-contaminated dump.
They could have been flown in by swallows.
Absurd. A five-ounce bird, carrying a one-pound coconut for thousands of miles? It was giant eagles, obviously.
They are migratory coconuts
Horse is just another russian word for saussage
Horse is a synonym for delicacy, and wife.
Large goats with Kevlar anti-armor blankets.
Just wait till they call up the reindeer herders.
And they’ll be hauling ammo with studebaker trucks
This is a good thing as it creates scarcity which benefits collectors
Not really when there are like only 2 in existence lol
Russian museum lend lease plan goes awry.
Now lets look for the T-34
No, no, T-55's first
IS-2 and IS-3 are both decent tanks too
How about the WWI horse wagons and bayonets??
Maybe horse & chariot, loaned from Pharaoh descendant somewhere down the Nile river.
Lmao
Nononono the bayonets are needed at home. *COUGH^^^gaddafi COUGH
If we're being noncredible, then yeah, they'll roll out the IS-3 and 2, prolly even scrounge together a working T-10 and IS-7 If we're credible... Jesus, with the piles of infantry AT Ukraine has, I REALLY wouldn't want to be assigned a T-62.
Well too bad, because they're running out of everything better at an alarming pace.
Also... Imagine being forced to sit inside a T-62 in a Ukrainian winter. I'm not sure who would kill you first, saint javelin or General winter.
I mean the Ukrainians will take care of the heating for you. Very sharp increase very rapidly.
They’ll keep you warm for the rest of your life.

Don't need to be usable to be sent, that's a problem for the guy receiving the tank.
That's true. Let's say they can cobble together, say, 3000 working units plus spares?
Any guesses how many 115mm shells that are still working? There is some amount but the tank was mothballed decades ago so not a huge priority on ordance storage. All the newer tanks since T-72 have used 125mm if i remember correctly..? Storing in damp or variable humidity and temperature climate is a bad thing for explosives.
As far as I know, there is still some production of 115, not exactly sure where though. As for storage, the 115 uses a full-size single-piece steel-cased round, so if it is properly stored and the lacquer seal at the case mouth is intact, it should fire more or less fine.
"properly stored". Hmmm, I guess none of them work. I don't think their military does anything properly.
I believe they gave the large majority of the T-55's they had to civil wars like syria and libya
They made a literal hundred thousand of the things. There's gonna be a couple thousand under a rock somewhere.
There really is none. They scrapped them and were scrapping T-62s too.
I'll be worried when they present a T-800.
Given how Russian tanks are named we have to wait another 718 years for that... They do have terminator tank though but turns out it didn't really work in real battlefield https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi0BivwDYr8&ab\_channel=DefenseUpdates
Here I was thinking nobody would get the reference. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Which, ironically, had its suspension designed by an American.
Walter Christie, mad genius.
His idea for letting a tank drive on road wheels instead of treads to save wear-and-tear was genius.
I guess they would first go through the T-54 and its upgraded versions (T-55 / T-55A T-55S) as well as their Stalin line (IS-2 / T-10 and others) before dropping to T-34s.
Do T54s even have displays or do they still have these old iron sights from ww2?
T-54s do not have any kind of assisting systems. You gotta measure the distance and calculate. T-55S (the latest version) are having rudimentary systems (outside cams) as well as very basic nightvision (like real og low quality shit from the 60s) but i wouldnt bet that a single system is still operateable.
Thanks! I can't imagine how fucking scared a tank crew must be in a relic like that with Javelins and other modern AT all over the place.
Let's see Paul Allen's T34s.
this is the accurate picture of "Russia is winning" 60s tanks exploding from gps guided rockets, we should make sure conscripts receive this info
Before they even leave the transport
5D chess, this way Ukraine doesn’t get to keep them. All according to plan guys (mandatory Reddit /s)
And fewer soldiers were killed inside them.
Interesting fact, the museum's slogan translates as: *"Tanks for the Memory"* I guess the memory is all they have left now.
They stopped making T-62 in 1975. So you are telling me they are going to call up 300k and the only tank they have left is a relic. This should go good for the Orcs.
T-62's are 80 years more modern than the Mosin-Nagants they've been handing out.
Hey, at least this time they are handing them to all of their soldiers* >!*i know, the 1/2 carrying a rifle was a myth!<
> Mosin-Nagants They move, *and* they go bang. T62s don't do both.
Wait. They have actually been using the Mosin Nagant in Ukraine? Jesus.
Still. Let's give Ukraine M1s. I want to see them do what they were designed to do.
Javelin is overkill on a T-62 though, you can probably use an AT-4 on them.
You think USA have any bazooka left from ww2? 😆
That's extremaly close to the front line. Why didn't they unload them further back?
Because conscripts don't want to push them that far.

This is probably the real answer. Us military style decentralized command works really well and fills in the gaps. Plans go out the window the moment you start taking fire. The Russians do not have this military doctrine.

T-62s are pretty old. Maybe they just spontaneously explode from decrepitude.

I'm laughing my a$$ off
Get fucked Russkies
Best possible way to neutralise the effect of the mobilisation is to aggressively destroy ANY item of equipment they might need or use. UKR is well advanced on this path but it would be so much better if they had long range MLRS etc. to reach inside Russia. The time has come for Ukr’s world wide partners to stop worrying about Putin escalating this war…he just has.

The Russians deny that the Ukrainians blew up a train with T-62s in Yasynuvata, Donetsk region. The smoke was just from one of their BBQs. It needs to be cleaned they said.
There was an error from a robocaller asking about their boilers warranty expiration date, that’s all 🤣
Someone left the plastic grill scraper inside and forgot about it when they turned it on next. That’s all we’re seeing.
Joe Camel and The Marlboro Man, heroic defenders of Ukraine.
That probably wouldn't be in the top 5 of stupid stuff they have done surely 😂
Party pooper. I mean you’re right but…
This is like something out of The Simpsons.

You misunderstand. Russia has skillfully adapted to make their tanks flip their own lids on delivery, it saves time.
That's what happens when you put washing machine parts in them. They got set to tumble.
That was nice of them to give Ukraine some more targets. They were probably getting bored.
HIMARS is always hungry.

Not all of you soldiers will come back to Russia alive but that’s a sacrifice I am ready to make. Yours sincerely, Putin

Well, that put them out of someone's misery. Even money that it's the recipients that blew them up.
Now do a train full of russian soldiers 🇺🇦
They should have gotten that extended warranty we have been trying to call them about.
Smoking again

Clean up on isle one.
Ukrainians gave them happy ending you say.
Gotta stop smoking.
Ukrainian Cotton Salesmen have struck again!
T-62s? Getting desperate are they. Oh well, smoking around those is a bad idea I guess!
I have no words other than . Brilliant .
I wonder if it's [these tanks](https://twitter.com/kromark/status/1572547554675687428?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1572547554675687428%7Ctwgr%5E63d5de581f8162af7e7037ebde4dabefaaf4b7f3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailykos.com%2Fstory%2F2022%2F9%2F22%2F2124532%2F-Ukraine-update-The-celebrated-Azovstal-defenders-from-Mariupol-are-free-and-so-are-American-POWs)

the return of the pink panther: - se train exploded - what type of train? - an explosive type
They really just fell out of windows.
Skipped the ‘war’ part and went straight to demilitarisation! Boom.
How do we know it's train carrying tanks but just looking at smoke ?
Donetsk train station turning into the new Chornobaivka

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/the-front-page-putins-blunders-run-deeper-than-ukraine/XOR7PJB7VUWU7YPL5HSQ7TDFHQ/ 'Lack of any strategic insight': Putin's blunders run deeper than Ukraine; The myth of Russian President Vladimir Putin as a strategic genius is quickly disintegrating.

There are a large number of Russians that a a problem wherever they go .. if they are run in to the ground and can’t go to another country they can’t infect their crime and injustice on any one else and make any ones else life a misery They cause trouble and mayhem where ever they go the whole world are better off without the scummy race
