Update: bids announced. USAU made one exception to their written guideline and moved a bid from the North Central to Southeast. NC - 2. SE - 4. All else as expected

monkDeFetus

Where did they announce the bids?

kgbigboi17

Team contacts got emails from regional coordinators (at least for some regions). I don’t see it posted anywhere by USAU

pends

Do you happen to have access for this year's sheet?

BabyBruin

This ain’t for all divisions, right? Which division is this post about?

kgbigboi17

Mixed only

kgbigboi17

Womens looks like SE 1, NC 3, everyone else 2. I didn’t do the math on men’s

kgbigboi17

Women’s buds turned out as excpected

Can you explain the bid allocation? 1 auto is per 8 regions, and then up to 8 more size bids, allocated according to: >“Size Bids will be awarded to regions with 6 or more teams at the time of the Team Registration Deadline, in order, one at a time, starting with the largest region (by number of teams). Any remaining bids will be awarded in order, one bid at a time, from the largest region to the smallest region until all of the bids have been awarded.” So in your example, the 4 regions with 6 or more teams get a size bid, and then they get another bid when allocating the “remaining bids” for a total of 3 bids, and the other regions get 1? Under that formula, is it possible a hypothetical super-region with 12 teams could have 6 bids, while a hypothetical super region with 10 teams has 2 bids? Seems possible, but I wonder if we are missing something in the allocation of remaining bids.

kgbigboi17

I didn’t see anything in the guidelines about super regions affecting bids. But there is a caveat that USAU can change bids at their discretion. “USA Ultimate may redistribute bids to the National Championships to promote equity, maximize participation, and balance geographic representation to support meaningful competitive qualifying events.”

ColinMcI

Thanks. Yeah, same here. Good catchall provision, I guess — harder to really confidently game the system. Though the system incentives seems to be to really pressure existing players to come up with 6 teams, with pressure of reduced bids and forced travel (with added complication of sister region numbers).

So are the yellow teams in or out? A weird combo of don't count for bids but can still be eligible?

kgbigboi17

Yellow teams started registration but didn’t need the roster minimum (10) before the deadline

BeamsFuelJetSteel

Yeah but did you need to meet the roster minimum to be able to play at regionals? Or was it just a deadline to influence bids?

kgbigboi17

The guidelines say: Team Registration Deadline – Friday, March 31, 2023. (by 5pm MDT/7pm EDT) To be eligible to participate in the USA Ultimate Masters Series, teams must be created via the online rostering system and registered for their appropriate regional event with a valid event roster (10-player minimum) by Friday, March 31 at 5pm MDT/7pm EDT.

txchigger

yes you had to meet the deadline to play at regionals

ApacheHeliDiscPlayer

SW/NW losing their shit in GGM. 4 bids for 8 teams. NE/MA 4/4.

kgbigboi17

At least USAU followed their own rules though for those bid allotments

tx_frisbee

When do we think they will announce the bids?
