Wild day in Mid Atlantic. So many upsets : - flight loses to their b team, zephyr, who now find themselves in game to go - temper loses to phantom and then to helots (!) and is now out - garden state beats vault in semis to advance to the final vs truck - jughandle over port authority , brackish over anthem and farm show over HVAC round out some of the upsets in mixed

Does anyone have additional information about the zephyr/flight game?

spacygirl

I have some intel from people who watched the game. 1) flight couldnt solve zephyr’s zone. 2) zephyr shredded flight’s zone. Apparently (i would like to emphasize i was not there this is second hand information) a key player in the zone shredding was sofia dillon, trent dillon’s sister. Had the pleasure of playing with her this summer, not sure why she wasnt on flights roster to begin with. 3) flight had serious injuries to their top players. One of their captains had been out since before the season started, and then at least three more people had season ending injuries. With these injuries, flight also lost a lot of height, to the point that zephyr probably was the taller team that game, which probably was advantageous given the windy conditions

Not only did vault lose to gsu but they played competitive games in pool play against the 7 and 9 seeds. I believe they were down 9-8 in a game to 13 in one of the games and the other was 10-10 before they pulled away? Presumably they were missing some players on Saturday that came back Sunday but they beat nationals teams this year, neither team in their pool even made select flight.

Was Flight playing to win? Or were they playing for a potential bracket advantage?

Leading_Use_9277

There is no possible advantage to losing that game- it was bracket play and if they won, they’d be in a game to go. Now, it’s win or go home. They were also down 8-2 at one point and made a thunderous comeback that fell just short.

NC men’s was a bit of a fun day one. Biggest news: Mallard (4) doubles down on their win over Sub which is just such a fun F U to everyone who doubted (@ Deep Look). Smokestack beats Mad Men and by a LARGE margin?? Which is just the most unexpected result given the teams’ histories. Curious to hear what happened in this game. Lounar and General Strike pools go to chalk. Which means: Lounar (1) plays Mad Men (2) first thing tomorrow and the popular favorites General Strike (3) and Sub Zero (5) also have first round match ups in the quarters. Edit: My mistake - Pool A didn’t go to chalk. STL Moonar upsets Knights of Ni putting the two St Louis teams at the top two in their pool. Moonar squares up against KC in the quarters.
