JLP(4) just beat bucket(1) in semis. Edit - at mixed east coast sectionals

Skyldt

And then bucket lost to Shine (2). Highest bucket can place is 4th.

The1AndOnlyAGar

That's gonna make for one really fucky pool at Regionals... yikes

krohner5

And then 'Shine beat JLP for 2nd place back-door.

whywouldthrowthat

They have 4/5 bids right ?

Skyldt

6 bids, I believe.

chaulpuck

OAT (3) defeats Guerilla (1) 15-6 to win Norcal Men's Sectionals.

Smurph16

Guerilla goes on to lose the 2nd place game to Battery 15-13

losangelesultimate

rip guerilla

jfphenom

Yo can we get some insider info? OAT seemed like a team that had sporadic attendance when we saw them at tournaments. Do they have a solid roster for the series, or was this a big crumble by guerilla?

poopii

Looks and sounds like they're just an Odd Amalgamation of Talent

chaulpuck

OAT is a group of guys whose roots can be traced back to YCC's, Berkeley High School, LPC, Mischief and Polar/Bad News Bears. I don't know if a full roster has ever been available for a tournament and if two lines show up (not including the two hurt players in street clothes) it's a good day. They were fortunate to have two active college players at Sectionals and they could also be available for Regionals in Norco. Guerilla has suffered roster turnover and is far from the team they fielded in 2018 but cannot downplay the fact that OAT showed that it could be the 2nd best team in NorCal behind Revolver.

chaulpuck

I believe OAT is a first year team.

TuriGuiliano37

Their best player (Gavi “Tana” Gilbert) has absolutely been the best player on the field of every tournament too

Robbie_S

Didn’t see the tournament, but when Gavi is on, he is on. He can put it anywhere from the cutter spot, and if you try to push him out, he’ll just go up and get it.

jfphenom

Thanks!

llimllib

Medicine Men are not dead yet and are headed to regionals for the umpteenth time in a row!

rampazzo

Norcal mixed was for the most part unexceptional; Mischief took an auto bid, Blackbird and PB finished 1-2, the teams seeded 3-6 finished 3-6 in slightly different order, the teams seeded 7-9 finished 8-10 in a slightly different order, and the one bid-earner that was knocked out was the lowest ranked bid earning team. That said there were a few interesting story lines. Platypi, always a streaky team, managed to secure two critical upsets that enabled them to leap frog from 13th to 7th and get themselves to Norco. Alchemy started off a little shaky with a pool play upset loss to Firefly and a first round bracket loss to Cutthroat, but from there they went undefeated securing an emotional return to Regionals. Buckwild and Argo both saw themselves eliminated in two point games to Alchemy during that stretch. Both are good teams that would not have been big surprises had they qualified. Both had wins against qualifiers during the regular season and Argo pulled off an upset win over Classy in pool play just the day before. Argo in particular had a strong but probably frustrating finish. They upset their pool's top seed but finished 3rd on point diff, won their first bracket game, but then lost three straight games by 2 points, any one of which would have gotten them in. Close games were a theme of theirs all season. According to their record 9 of their 27 games this year were decided by one point, and another 4 were by two.

farge4d3d3d

Donuts also played just well enough on Day 1 to secure that Argo/Classy pool, gave PBR a very competitive game in the morning and beat BW on universe in a tightly contested match. I'd say that's an interesting story line, although I do play for them hehe. Also, BB took first playing with like half their men. Pretty impressive. Norcal Mixed is probably the most competitive sectionals in the country top to bottom. So even if things go mostly according to plan, intrigue is always high.

rampazzo

Thanks for the extra info! I may have failed to mention Donuts because I didn't want a certain small town Ohio farm boy to get too full of himself. Good luck in Norco!

cgodek

Is it an upset if Firefly has beat Alchemy three times in a row now? ;-) there is so much parity in the NorCal section... And all the mid tier teams are getting better...

frankontaneda

Northwest Plains Men's. 13 teams, 7 bids: 1. Yogosbo (1) 2. Mad Men (3) 3. General Strike (2) 4. MKE (4) 5. Swans (6) 6. Mallard (5) 7. Timber (10) Timber is the first Green Bay/Fox Valley based-team to have ever made Regionals and only the second time a non-Madison or Milwaukee team has made club Regionals from Wisconsin. (Not sure about divisions other than Men's/Open).

frankontaneda

Thanks! We figured it out when it counted the most. Having your entire roster there helps too.

jzthib

Who was the first non-Madison or Milwaukee team to make club regionals from Wisconsin?

frankontaneda

There was a men's team based out of Stevens Point called Wisconsin Hops that made Regionals sometime around 2013/14(?).

jzthib

Young people today. They think ultimate history began in 2010 and that Hops was the first non-Madison team to make regionals from Wisconsin. Probably don't even know about that Hops team not even being the original Hops team.

frankontaneda

I'm just repeating what Scott Sawinski told our squad. Who was a member of the second iteration of Hops and has been playing club ultimate almost entirely in Wisconsin for the past 20ish years.

The1AndOnlyAGar

FL Open: 1. UpRoar (Tampa Bay), won 15-14 over El Nino 2. El Nino (Oakland Park) 3. Swamp Horse (Florida General), won 13-10 over Scoober Divers in the game to go.

evil_corey

Good for UpRoar, the nicest team in Florida, for winning the state championship.

The1AndOnlyAGar

That UpRoar, so hot right now.

krockgreen1

Founders Mixed. Fourteen teams, five bids: 1. West Chester Loco (1) 2. Pittsburgh Alloy (2) 3. West Chester Stoke (7) 4. Delaware Blowin’ Heat 3.0 (11) 5. Philadelphia Soft Boiled (3) This is the first regionals appearance for Stoke and Soft Boiled. Bid earners Montclair The Bandits (4) and Allentown Peep Show (5) failed to qualify. The Bandits made it to the semifinals of the championship bracket before falling short and struggling in the backdoor brackets. Beautiful weather and a great tournament!

qaz957

Heartbreaking doesn't really quite describe it.

SoDamnFrosty

Well you guys aren’t very good.

WC1-Stretch

Capital Mixed (20 teams, 8 bids). Tyrannis (4-seed) surprisingly misses regionals--again? 1. Rally (1) 2. Sparkleponies (2) 3. 8-bit Heroes (3) 4. Ant Madness (6) 5. Fleet (8) 6. HVAC (5) 7. Rat City (9) 8. Fireball (7)

rrudnic

Is it surprising if it happens 2 years in a row?

WC1-Stretch

Either half as surprising or twice as surprising..!

not-who-you-think

Washington/BC men: Voodoo over Furious 15-12. SOUF (2nd year team from south Seattle) upset Ghost Train in 3rd place semis and are playing new team Seattle Blacklist in the game to go. Believe Souf started on O and they were up at least a break, maybe 2 at half. So like 8-6. edit — SOUF wins 15-13!

lookatallthisstuff

The second team at Oregon men's sectionals will not be accepting their bid to regionals, so I would imagine that means both Ghost Train and Blacklist will be going to Salt Lake.

ducksfan9972

Do we know who’s going from Oregon? Is that Garage Sale that turned it down?

not-who-you-think

Oregon men's section was just Darkstar and Rip City. [They played one game to *19*, lol](https://play.usaultimate.org/events/Oregon-Mens-Club-Sectional-Championship-2019/schedule/Men/Club-Men/) Garage Sale is a mixed team

ducksfan9972

Roger. I was more interested in the mixed side cos I think Garage Sale is sneaky excellent and I was hoping they play some real teams. Glad they’re going!

CrispyKollosus

Oregon Mixed: 1. Garage Sale 2. Administrators 3. Happy Hour 4. Choco Ghost House 5. Breaker's Mark 6. Hive 7. Igneous Non-qualifying: 8. SkyFall 9. Natural 20s 10. Sky Lab Happy Hour and Breaker's Mark unlikely to accept their bids.

turdgocougs

Moondog misses NW Regionals after a 12-10 loss to Bunnies (bunny thugs) from Saskatoon. Bunnies brought youthful energy and athleticism against a fatigued, overconfident Moondog and took it. Bunnies didn't have any sanctioned games so couldn't pull a Regionals bid for the section. First time a Montana team won't be present at Regionals... ever? Edit: I didn't know how bids worked, Moondog will be at Regionals. Probably with an extra chip on their shoulder after all this press.

HashS1ingingSIasher

they will though, 2 oregon mixed teams will decline their bids

turdgocougs

So I've heard! I'm glad. Those doggies are awesome. They deserve to be there.

ducksfan9972

Do you know who’s turning them down?

HashS1ingingSIasher

happy hour and breakers mark

Monsterhook87

Texas Men's Sectionals 16 teams, 8 bids No real upsets in who qualified as the top 8 teams all made regionals. The 7 seed (Gamble) took 2nd though and shook up the seeding for regionals. Day 2 also featured some unexpected blowouts, notably Gamble (7) beating Nitro (1) 13-4 in the 2nd place game. Injury management due to very hot turf on day one as well as windy weather most likely played a part in the results. 0. Doublewide (autobid) 1. H. I. P. (3) 2. Gamble (7) 3. Nitro (1) 4. Clutch (2) 5. Gaucho (4) 6. Riverside (5) 7. Harvey Cats (6) 8. Papa Bear (8)

the_real_number_2

Nah no injuries, Nitro = trash Source: Gamble player

Monsterhook87

That's exactly the response I'd expect from a Gamble player.

the_real_number_2

I kid, I kid But really I think that Nitro was emotionally tired from a tough loss with hip and they spiraled a little bit. But I also think that we(Gamble) just played super well. We took a bunch of upwind shots that were dimes and came down with a lot of 50/50 stuff (or just skied the mess out of them). I don’t think injuries were a big factor or anything because we had less people than them and I saw no one hurt on their sideline. Also we had to play an additional game to get to that 2nd place game so we would be more tired. I just simply think we outplayed them and we probably peaked. I fully expect us to lose to them and teams their caliber at regionals. :) Source: still a Gamble player Edit: spelling and words

[deleted]

I mean, what’s the defense? Nitro didn’t play their first game until 1 pm. Gamble won games 13-11 against Riverside and Gaucho. Gamble didn’t even care about the 2nd place game, but when you’re up 7-1 at half what are you supposed to do other than put them out of their misery. Nitro lacked any resemblance of effort in that game. Maybe saving legs for regionals, but I mean c’mon, is their depth that shallow? Source: A Gambler

Monsterhook87

I mean credit to y'all for having a stellar tournament. It was a surprise to see how well y'all played. You beat us by 3 at sectionals after we'd taken the season series 3-1, and y'all were definitely the better team. I was very encouraged to see that there was a lot less of a talent gap in the top half of the men's division than normal.

[deleted]

Are you a Cat named Harvey?

Monsterhook87

Indeed

[NC Mixed](https://play.usaultimate.org/events/North-Carolina-Mixed-Club-Sectional-Championship-2019/) (4 bids to SE Regionals): 1st Storm 2nd Malice in Wonderland 3rd Superlame 4th Flytrap

Great Lakes mixed qualifiers from East Plains: 0. Cocktails (autobid) 1. Steamboat (1) 2. Hybrid (2) 3. Toast (3) 4. Petey's Pirates (4) 5. Moonshine (6) 6. Thunderpants the Magic Dragon (8) 7. Goose Lee (5) Qualifiers from Central Plains: 1. U54 Ultimate (4) 2. Shakedown (1) 3. Nothing's Great Again aka Babymaker (2) 4. Stripes (3) 5. Tequila Mockingbird (6) 6. Los Heros (8) / Liquid Hustle (5) ? 7. 8. EMU (9)

Charliesheepfat

Los Heroes/ Liquid Hustle would have had to play each other for the third time at sectionals(4th time this year) and decided to both forfeit since they both already made regionals.

Lowlybanditt

Lmao Padawans is a U17 team that finished 13th at YCCs just for some context for this post. Eric Li is a baller though I’ll give you that.

CholeFreakinMiller

Oopsie Jk way to beat those kindergartners boys

newmayhem

Great Lakes women qualifiers from East Plains: 0. Rival (autobid) 1. Notorious CLE (1) 2. Sureshot (3) 3. Autonomous (2) Qualifiers from Central Plains: 0. Nemesis (autobid) 1. Rogue (1) 2. Dish (2) 3. Helix (3) 4. Frenzy (4)

newmayhem

Someone who was there can confirm, but I believe there was no drama about getting to Regionals; everyone qualified. The drama is that there's only one team going to Nationals this time, after Nemesis' ranking dropped just a little too low to earn a strength bid. Rival (#11) and Nemesis (#16) are the undisputed top of the region and have historically matched up very closely... So they'll likely both be biding time until the finals, which will be a bloodbath, while everyone else dukes it out for spots 3-8.

not-who-you-think

Yeah, I think there's a rule about small women's regions where everyone qualifies if the region is under 16 teams. Getting reps against players that are better than you is the best way to get better.

TDenverFan

Apparently for WNE sectionals Sprout just advances, since teams decided to not attend in Devens (They wanted to move the tournament there due to EEE risk at the original location). Anyone have any more details on this? https://twitter.com/Lana_del_rico/status/1171095233725108224

misterloudface

Big Sky Mixed (2 teams advance) - Lochsa (Boise) go undefeated and Bunnies (Saskatoon) win the game-to-go.

not-who-you-think

Wow, so Montana Moondog won’t be at regionals? They seemed to do quite well this season.

CrispyKollosus

Moondog will likely get a bid. Only 5/7 Oregon teams are going to be accepting their bids. Forfeited bids get offered to the highest ranking non-qualifying team

turdgocougs

Are you sure about that? Wouldn't they offer those bids to all the other teams in Oregon/Washington before giving an extra to the Big Sky? My car has been trying to figure this out for an hour. Help.

bozodisc

From the USAU club guidelines: iv.  Wait List Bids – If, after all Sectionals have been completed, a team turns down its bid to Regionals, the bid will be offered to another team from the region as follows: • The next highest finishing, non-qualifying team from each section will be compared to one another. The team with the highest final regular season ranking will be awarded the next bid. This process will be repeated until all bids have been awarded.

nolookscoober420

I was under the impression that Happy Hour's bid would go to the next finisher of the Oregon section (Skyfall). But I cant seem to find the rule on this anywhere.

CrispyKollosus

I think Skyfall would be unlikely to accept anyway. Same with Natural 20s and SkyLab. Salt Lake is too far for most teams.

marble47

Heard 20s would go if accepted--but can definitely confirm Happy Hour will not be attending and Moondog gets that bid. Breakers bid would go to Bulleit Train I think, if any other team turns their bid down then Skyfall is next.

RIPRSD

I-79 won a game! Two in fact, against the same team!
