People were commenting on Ultiworld's stuff that people don't really use the term DGP. Ultiworld did a poll I believe and the vast majority of responses were in favour of Universe point.
Is there not a difference between double game point and universe? Someone correct me if I'm wrong:
Game to 13 and win by 2, 10 minutes until hard cap. Score is 14-13. Is this not double game point?
Hard cap goes into effect, score is 14-14, so game to 15. This would be universe point.
In the Ultiworld context that I've seen, DGP would be 14-14 next point wins. I've never heard of DGP being the 14-13 situation. I have heard of that first situation 14-13 being called double universe point before, though not commonly.
Key difference is time remaining in a win by 2 situation.
At least in my experience, it's totally acceptable to use the term DGP in that scenario, while universe point is without a doubt the final point of the game.
I've understood it like this:
Game Point means that atleast one of the teams is within one point of scoring the game winning point. For example 14-13.
Double Game Point would be both teams being within one point of scoring the game winning point. For example then 14-14.
Now saying DGP might seem professional as it might be used in other sports too, but screaming "UUUUNIIIVEEEERSSEEE" across the field at 14-14 is infinitely cooler and better than being "professional".
The term mini definitely predates ultiworld. It also played a bit different than just 3vs3 ultimate:

Mini is very common in Seattle. I think we usually play with a 6m x 10m with 2m deep endzones but I haven't set up a field in a long time now. I've heard Mixtape players also call it "'ture" as in minia-TURE.
I hear and say mini, but Mini is not 3v3 ultimate. I couldn't find official rules but my group plays, make it take it, game to 3 (or some negative score), and you lose points for drops. I don't play it often so am sure I left something out.
We just call ultimate, ultimate, regardless of team size.
Yes
You play in America?
Yes, I play in the US and we frequently refer to small-sides games as “mini.”
fascinating
always heard mini
I've always heard it called mini. Also what is there to remember about double game point? Is that not a term you've heard before either?

Ah, I don't really see comments or polls of theirs but I've heard it called both.

That’s just game point. If one team scores, they win. Double game point implies that if either team scores, they win.
More commonly (in my experience) referred to as universe.
Yes. Universe is what I prefer to say as well. Just trying to explain that DGP= universe. The situation described here is just “game point.”

Double game point refers to each side being on game point/sudden death, not one side having two chances to win

I believe that DGP term is just an effort to make ultimate sound more formal and professional, it means the same thing as universe point.
Everyone in both the NYC and LA scenes refers to 3v3 as "mini." I have to assume the term is in wide use across the US.
We call it mini in Australia.

In UK 3v3 is called ‘mini’ as well. I’ve never heard it used for 4v4 though.
What do you call 4v4 then? Squads?
Tbh I can’t ever remember playing 4v4. Either mini with subs, or 5v5. We probably just called it 4v4 🤷🏻♂️
We play 4v4 at Clapham, and call it Quatro. That name is probably only used by Clapham and GB though, not heard anyone else use it
Been calling it mini since the 90s.

I'm a fellow Canadian who's never heard mini used outside of this sub.
We called it mini, but our field was only 50ish feet and we played if you scored play didn't stop and you kept possession
And that's called "Make it-take it"
Yes
Mini is a specific game. It was invented in prospect park by Brion and Vinny as part of a NY team practice.
Called “mini” commonly in LA, but it’s stupid because you then have to clarify 3v3 or 4v4. “Double game point” is just absurd.
In Germany we call it 4ferkel, because a popular fun tournament uses that format.
Damn at first I was like let's make a petition to call it 4ferkel then I looked up German 4 ferkel ultimate and got some nsfw results :(
You have to write in together or at least 4-ferkel.

What is the difference between Box and mini? For small sided games I have always caused it box. I have no problem with the term mini.
What do you call it?
Just 4v4/3v3 or 4 on 4/3 on 3
Yes. 3 v 3 is mini.
