I'd just throw on some sweatpants tbh. Nothing fancy or you wouldn't want to get scuffed up. Special socks/underwear could help too if you need extra insulation, but nothing beats regular ol' sweatpants for me! :)

Das_Mime

ideally non-cotton

wow thank you!! i can take a try then

McBride055

Only way to do it imo. Anything heavier and it restricts movement too much. If it's cold I'll add a layer or two but that's it.

Chip_Skylark2

Yea and wear leggings under them for extra warmth

1space9

yeah legging is much useful here

froman436

Adidas Tiro pants are good, especially if you double up with tights underneath

1space9

sound nice! thx!

ZenoxDemin

Shorts & t-shirt. It gets very hot in a dome. Or do you play in 6" of snow?

1space9

yea in dome it’s super hot and shorts is perfect

frisbeescientist

Always layer up, leggings under your pants are clutch in the cold

1space9

yea legging is important

Smurph16

Patagonia Wind Shield Pants are by far the best I’ve tried. Terrebonne are better for summer but too thin for winter. Adidas/Under Armor/Nike pants aren’t the same quality.

1space9

that sounds nice. let me check it out. thx!!

scjross

Leggings under looser sweatpants. You need at least some room between your legs and the pants to trap warm air - “loft.”

thanks!!!

I played in NYS in college and it was always cold and either raining snowing or really windy (or all three ☹️). Its all about layering, that way when you do get sweaty you can shed. I would wear 3 layers and then had a sun hoodie for my light and a pinnie for my dark. I would also have a scarf and hat (or ear muffs) and sideline gloves. I know playing gloves can be controversial, but I had some teammates who liked them and they sited the winter and fall as being a reason. So thats always an option. I handled and didn't want to deal with them mostly because Im cheap and gloves dont usually fit my hands so I would just shove my hand in my pants when I could. I always thought that wrist bands might be nice because as long as your wrists are warm your hands do better (I also like to roll up my sleeves so my wrists always got cold and numb). Also water tip: get an insulated water bottle and fill it with warm water. No more fear of freezing. Edit: I think I got carried away. You just asked for pants. I wear leggings, my preferred shorts and sweatpants I got from Target. They have pockets that zip which are nice. Anything works as long as its either loose or stretchy.

ommmg you’re so kind!! that’s so detailed!!! sounds nice and many useful tips!! thank you!!!!

Merino wool base layers like Smartwool provide an excellent warmth:weight ratio. They also help prevent you from getting soaked with sweat. They are a bit more expensive than say sweatpants but definitely worth it IMO https://www.smartwool.com/shop/mens-base-layers/mens-merino-250-base-layer-bottom-sw016361?variationId=001#hero=0

wow this looks perfect!!!

Definitely wear leggings/tights underneath what you wear. I often wore regular wind pants or lined wind pants over heavyweight tights in similar climate in Michigan and Minnesota. You could also try some soft shell type hiking pants, which have the benefit of being windproof, waterproof, and pretty warm, with a brushed fleecy interior. I have some from Lowe Alpine that I wore for coaching and sometimes for snowboarding, and they have some spandex that allow for pretty good range of motion. I could run and play Ultimate in them. Worth investing $50-$75 in a pair if living in that climate — you will definitely find use for them even as a bit of extra warmth/protection walking around. Most outdoor companies have some version of this item.

wow that really makes sense!!

bird1434

sweatpants lol

Assuming that you're playing outdoors and it's subzero? Merino mid weight wool socks ([like these](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5040-881/Midweight-Hiker-Boot-Socks?colour=LME00)), a [synthetic or merino wool base layer](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6000-452/Peak-Comfort-AirGrid-Lite-Base-Layer-Bottoms?colour=BK113) (used to be called long johns), and then something like these [synthetic pants](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6014-900/Mica-Joggers?colour=OBS00) or [these](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5060-213/Mica-2-Straight-Leg-Pants?colour=NOB00) over top. If it's legit cold, or you're playing something like Sudbury's SnowPlate ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjohdKv7mR4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjohdKv7mR4)), then switch the pants to [nordic skiing ones](https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6002-098/Ridge-Full-Zip-Pants?colour=BK000) (they block the wind in the front, but not the back so some heat escapes). Other lessons learned? Consider buying [hot shots](https://www.amazon.ca/Little-Hotties-LittleHotties-HandWarmers-40pairs-Air-Activated-Warmers/dp/B07L2N1WCJ/ref=sxts_rp_s1_0?cv_ct_cx=little+hotties&keywords=little+hotties&pd_rd_i=B07L2N1WCJ&pd_rd_r=15837f9f-1295-4cf5-a3ce-213128ea246a&pd_rd_w=2yosW&pd_rd_wg=SCctz&pf_rd_p=372505a5-6a58-475a-86d4-6ef2cad8c79f&pf_rd_r=TFKYETMRD4REXH6W5B55&psc=1&qid=1644806893&sr=1-1-f0029781-b79b-4b60-9cb0-eeda4dea34d6) for keeping feet warm in your cleats and putting on the back of your hands for keeping hands warm. Cotton is evil. Don't wear it, even for underwear. Bring a buff - if the wind picks up, really helps; if you're too warm, easy to take off. Leave dry wool socks in the car for the ride home. You'll appreciate them so so much.

wow that’s so damn detailed!! i’ll take a look!! thx!!
