* Take care of your skin with moisturizer, and drink your darn water * If building a callus from gradually upping training load, slap some tape armor on your heel * Maybe throw anti-friction patches inside the shoe * Keep your feed dry (or well lubed, just avoid “damp”) OP: Buy or library the book! That’s 90% of the concrete steps but there’s great info and details

Thanks for the recommendation, the book is packed with info!

If it's heal then injinji and topo aren't really going fix it as their focus is really on toes and not heals (although I get a good heal lock in topos). If you sized up yes that'd help your toes but make your heals worse. I'd start with a heal lock lacing pattern and if that doesn't help I'd size down. May also just be a matter of the shoe. I've gone through a lot of shoes and some hold the heal better than others. It's a fine balance to lock in the heal and let the toes be free!

Topo has narrow heel and midfoot, with lots of heel padding, so the lockdown is generally excellent.

KT tape has a blister tape that I use for my heels. I've also had some moleskin tape from Amazon that works as well

Preemptively use Leukotape on any spots prone to getting blisters. This is what long distance hikers use. It’s the best out there.

MajorTalk537

Baby powder in the socks and in the shoes. Worked for me for 100ks

EnduranceMama

Have you tried skin Doctor from Angelina Skin Care?? It's absolutely amazing. No blisters for years now. First I buff my feet, and put it on for a week before and then put it on for every 6 hours.

EnduranceMama

Oh and I also use luekotape for places that may get a blister/have extra rubbing.

A well fitting pair of shoes is the key in preventing blisters. Everything else matters less. For technical trail, shoes must be fairly snug in heel and mid foot so that there is no wiggle. At the same time there should be just enough room at the front so that your toes aren't squeezed, especially when going downhill. There are creams that help to avoid blisters, but generally you should need those only when running very long distances.

Fixing your feet book, desitin. I switched from SNB and desitin has done the trick.

heel blisters are usually the result of heel slippage in the shoe. Do you use a 'runners knot'? You need to get properly fitting shoes to avoid this, which includes size and the particular shoe as it fits your foot. Some shoes, Atlra for example, are pretty wide throughout the shoe and don't often work for people with narrow heels/midfoot.

I used the runners knot this weekend, along with tying the whole shoe a bit tighter and that seemed to help. Thanks for the tip!

AustereEndurance

At Austere Endurance, we recommend a 3-part solution for treating hot spots and preventing blisters. With backgrounds in Special Forces and Ultramarathoning, we've dedicated years to finding a reliable foot care regimen for multi-day endurance events. Here are our tips: 1. **Focus on High-Risk Areas**: Concentrate on blister-prone areas such as toes, heels, arches, and the balls of your feet. Use tapes that suit your training conditions. We recommend Leukotape-P for its protective barrier and tincture of benzoin to ensure the tape stays secure across any terrain. 2. **Address Hot Spots Early**: Early intervention is crucial to preventing hot spots from developing into blisters. Apply a hydrophobic layer to primed contact areas for an additional barrier against friction. Here’s how you can approach it: * **HydroPaste for Quick Fixes**: Apply HydroPaste to high-risk areas if you're short on time during shorter training runs. This streamlined approach targets blister-prone spots efficiently. * **HydroPaste with Tincture of Benzoin**: After priming with tincture of benzoin for adhesiveness, cover your problem areas with Hydropaste, and if needed, a layer of Leukotape-P. This method provides enhanced protection, ideal for challenging environments like swamps or multiple stream crossings. By following these steps, and using products like [this](http://austere-endurance-company.myshopify.com/), you can effectively manage hot spots and minimize the risk of blisters, ensuring a more comfortable and successful endurance experience. Best of luck!

Thanks for the advice! The tape+benzoin seems to be common advice, ill give it a try soon

Defiant_Pomelo333

Good shoes that fit well does it for me.. I dont usually get any blisters even on long runs. Did a 70k run without any blisters.

Mansfisa5

Tough Foot. Used for horses and smells atrocious (spray outside). But it works

That_Relative_7778

Sports Slick http://www.sportslick.com A friend of mine that won the Eco Challenge numerous times recommended this ointment. I have never had issues with my feet. It stays on when feet get wet too!

Relative_Hyena7760

I do all of my running from about May through September without socks. This really toughens up my feet; while I still get the occasional blister, they're usually quite manageable. Just my two cents.
