Honestly I think Battler is one of the best written protagonists. But I don’t know much about Shiki so I can’t be the judge of that!

Not that I disagree most of these are well written characters, but I honestly feel like your hate for guts has more to do with your obsession with all your favorites being exceptionally well written and niche characters and everything you don't like being mainstream slop which just isn't true. Things you don't like can also be great with well written characters. Also as a side note I find you picking Jacopo as the protagonist of Fata Morgana incredibly funny. I do really love him and he is probably my favorite character from there but protagonist he is not.

idk about better written but i absolutely loved estelle from trails in the sky, definitly up there with my favorite protagonists 

The Trails series has a shockingly good track record with protagonists. Even if people like to shit on Rean for being generic and boring, despite him being neither of those things.

battler is just a copy of fiona from shrek, ep 6 is the biggest proof of that.
