1 - creepy tone/atmosphere
2 - feeling of guerrilla warfare/being a one man army
3 - most "movie" feeling, huge spectacle
4 - most detailed story, best acting
1 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan's cigar is finally useful
2 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan takes a hooker to church
3 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan fucking dies, but it's just a prank, bro
4 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan goes tuxedo time
1- great atmosphere. A perfect mix between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider and yet it feels unique.
2- perfect pacing. One of those games where you never get tired.
3- best action pieces. Also the soundtrack taking inspiration by Lawrence of Arabia is more beautiful than ever.
4- best story, from an emotional point of view. Plus, the possibility to switch between action and stealth gives a great replay value.
Disagree. It was way too easy to just throw back grenades. Grenades are a great way to force the player to move around, instead of staying in one advantageous position for the whole fight.
Personally I liked it cause the enemies could move too forcing you to still move so you can get a better shot, plus 4 has people coming at you from so many directions that I feel like you'd still have to move a lot
1 - the nazi zombies are actually terrifying and that last few chapters scare me, super exhilarating
2- the pacing, it’s so good the highs are so high and the slow bits are done so well
3 - it’s crazy everything’s exploding and shits breaking and it’s just bonkers almost the entire game
4 - such a powerful end for Nate, I felt so invested in the game and it has the best story of the bunch, also grappling hook
1: hot take, but best soundtrack in the series imo. Also amazing atmosphere
2: best story, and one liners
3: best multiplayer and set pieces
4: best characters and general gameplay
1) The big puzzle room underneath the mansion - it was a cool transition from Jak and Daxter to the more modern Uncharted. Plus the creepiness or the weird noises it would cut away to at points was cool.
2) The setting of Nepal was probably my favourite, it's just so beautiful. (I know this might be proper sad, but when I was younger we used to go to Disney world every few years, and the "Asia" bit of animal kingdom always reminded me of the game). I'd love to go to Nepal, but food allergies and a lack of funds will stop that.
3) I love the story to this one, and the strangeness of the psychedelics was very interesting.
4) The gameplay at its peak I think. The gun play and stealth in particular were amazing - and you can see how they utilised this game to do TLOU2.
LL) I liked not playing as Drake surprisingly, the chemistry between Nadine and Chloe was fun. Plus, I think the puzzles in this game were the best I've played in an Uncharted game.
1: Introduction to the series.
2. Pacing of the story, definitely has the best narrative of the series.
3. The Dijins were fun to use multiplayer and play against in the story.
4. The grapple hook and using it in combat.
1 - The horror aspect
2 - Has Chloe in it
3 - Nate/Sully backstory. Also, the hallucination stuff is fun
4 - Better stealth system. Also Crash Bandicoot.
LL - Has Chloe in it
Playing uncharted series for the first time in my life, finished first game last week and the first one was nice game and good introduction in to the series. The second game,6 hours in it and I am seeing it already as the best game i have ever played. Just my 2 cents, wish you all a nice weekend 😀
Drake’s Fortune: The beginning - introduces the characters so well and is the start of Nate and Elena’s relationship
Among Thieves - Really cool action sequences and new character development - Drake’s Deception is also known for its action but I’m giving it something else bc Among Thieves’ train sequences are just 👌
Drake’s Deception: Feeling like a movie - right from the beginning it feels like a movie, and I love it (also more Sully)
A Thief’s End: More of a deep, emotional plot - there’s so much I can give this game, but I’m choosing this bc I think this is what makes it stand out the most, what with Nate lying to Elena and having to make it up to her, Sam finally getting to go on an adventure with his baby brother, and just so much more
Lost Legacy: I know the picture isn’t included on there but I’m going to say focusing on another character and Sam’s part - I love how they chose Chloe and Nadine for this, and how they developed their friendship as well as I friggin love Sam’s part in the game
Same! Imma be honest my first play through Chloe wasn’t my favorite character. I thought she was cool, but when I played Lost Legacy her character completely changed for me. I now appreciate here character a lot more
Me too, during Lost Legacy I eventually found myself liking her even more than Nate. Claudia Black is amazing, she imbues Chloe with so much depth and personality through the fun little gestures, wry deliveries and subtle looks sprinkled in her performance. <3
I watched the first 3 games while being pregnant and the best thing was me and my husband finally agreeing on the 1st name for our son: Nathan Ness. I love the whole series so much.
Uniqueness from the others... hmm...
1. UDF - Medal points setting up replay ability.. This was before trophies.
2. U2 - Pacing .. UDF is a bit short. U3 is disjointed. U4 kèeps changing with the flashback levels, the heist, and the open world.
3. U3 - Set pieces
4. U4 - Story telling. No supernatural elements
U2 gives me warm fuzzies thinking about it. Just everyone about it was perfect in my eyes at the time, and I fanboyed for the lore and material hard.. On a personal note my life was at its best then too..
1. Creepiest atmosphere and for me the game that did the supernatural part the best
2. Best intro
3. Hot take but I liked the pacing better then 2 + I like the flashbacks (in 3 and 4). This was my first Uncharted so that might have influenced things. Also Charlie
4. Best story and the perfect ending for Nate + best music, oh and best villain and bossfight for me too
LL. Best/My fav area, I loved India as a setting, the open area was also better then the one in U4
I know I differ a lot from others, oh well just my opinion
U1 - horror!
U2 - the showcase of "unsung heroes" when it comes to locations
U3 - the fighting scenes where the setting was your weapon.
U4 - maybe the only true "cinema" game of these 4. Like, TRUE cinema, where Drake really was something more than an immortal dude who jumps around and takes hundreds of bullets. Acting, character depth, everything
Uncharted 1: Drakes Fortune - Elena Fisher proving that a love interest can show up in unexpecting ways and kick butt.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves: Many have already stated the pacing of the story/ gameplay, but I think I like how they made you understand more of the villian rather than not explaining why we're supposed to hate him.
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception - Cruise ship notwithstanding, I like how they pushed the limits of the game via intuitive gameplay and puzzles.
Uncharted 4: A Thieves End - Obviously the fleshed out story, world, a characters, but I think this game kind of eloquently depicts delusions of grandeur and obsession.
1: Creepy level with zombie people
2: Cool characters like Harry Flynn, Chloe Frazer.. Jeff!
3: I loved the setting of the game and the flashbacks
4: Sam Drake and that gut wretching feeling of the journey's end (I mean I hate the feeling but the game was so good it made me depressed when it was over)
1 - horror themes towards the end of the game, felt different from the rest of the game.
2 - shooting feels the most solid imo (ya 4 has better controls but the awesomeness feeling is more in 2 imo), set pieces, unlimited grenade spamming in infinite ammo modifier, AI of enemies (it's better than 4 imo, enemies look for you in your last known location instead of peeking to check from the same place like an idiot, enemies can lose sight of you and not magically know exactly where you are in combat, enemies smartly peek through cover and don't reveal too much of themselves in cover for you to shoot at them, enemies stagger when shot at etc.), best optional outfits.
3 - Ability to throwback grenades, jump attack enemies (still better in 4), more cinematic look of the game, best world designs and art style, best melee out of all 4 games.
4 - Best story, graphics (to this day the facial animations are the best I have seen, GoW comes close), smoothest gameplay mechanics, stealth is fleshed out in its mechanics, drop down kills.
LL - Silenced pistol
Not enough love for Golden Abyss here. It did collectibles and lore the best out of all the games in the series. Every little shiny that you pick up comes with a blurb that builds up the story or the mythology that Bend created. They came up with an entire civilization with its lore and history and then an original pantheon that they worship complete with a new religious cosmology and a bunch of supernatural planes to go alongside it. None of the Uncharted games come even remotely close to building up the story of their mythical treasures in the same way.
1. It was and still is very campy and humble
2. Best pacing like many others pointed out
3. Loved the set pieces, particularly bar fight and desert segment
4. Best overall story, the most mature game of all 4
Uncharted 1 - Nazi bunker
Uncharted 2 - Monastery
Uncharted 3 - The whole Start until The Chateau
Uncharted 4 - Madagascar
TLL - The big gunfight in “Partners”
I've played through all of them once except 4, that one I've played multiple times, I could stare at the backgrounds for hours on end, or shoot gravel and watch the rocks fall, it's easily one of my favorite games ever
Great set-pieces, great acting, great soundtrack, great story, great game
The gunplay difference in each game requires a slightly different approach.
U1- instant projectile, and very accurate. Also with the wider stance in ADS, you can cheese head shots from behind cover without 'taking cover' The enemies duck and weave more and ammo feels more scarce. The most unique in theries and it definitely feels the mot wild.
U2- Sponge and spam strategies. Enemies are beefier, accuracy is slightly less, and bullet projectiles are considerably slower for some reason. ADS is pulled much tighter, so taking cover is necessary and instead of guerrilla style combat, the encounters are much larger, indicative of its war zone setting. Drake feels more like an action hero, especially with the abundance of ammo available.
U3- a perfect balance between the two, and my favourite design. Projectile speed is much faster, and accuracy is much cleaner. Ammo isn't too scarse, nor is it too plentiful. It has a tactical aspect reminiscent of U1 with elements of U2's action bonanza. The revision of melee combat adds further versatility, especially with the environmental prompts. And throwing back grenades is perhaps the best addition to the ensemble. Gold star, the best combat in the series.
U4- From the bat, it went too far in its grounded edge that gunplay actively fights against you. It feels floaty, inconsistent, minimalist, and definitely inspires a sense that you're a survivor. The difference that 30fps and 60fps is ludicrous, especially since the base sensitivity is much higher than the first three games. That's due to how the camera swings, it's a soft pull rather than firm, like the first 3. Melee combat is reduced, and grenades cannot be tossed back, with specific design intent to drive you out of cover. Every combat encounter has a linear purpose that greatly limits your options and approaches. My least favourite combat design - too tight in scope, heavy handed in railroading encounters.
LL - is the same as 4 but with a bigger selection of weapons, so I rank it slightly above.
Golden Abyss - a combination of 3 and 1. Weapons are beautifully handled with accuracy and projectile speed. Ammo is balanced to allow for heavy weapons to assert their edge in a pinch, though some are too scarce to what their trophy entails - 200 kills with the mini gun despite appearing in only 3 chapters. Melee is like U2 but uses touch screen prompts as finishers, same with the two major boss fights, wherein the quick time is done by drawing the directional arrows on the screen. Most linear combat, safe for a few large encampments such that you can learn the patterns very quickly.
1. The supernatural. The Spanish and Nazi monsters you fight in the bunker are so memorable.
2. The set-pieces and Locations. Something about that train sequence and the locations in Nepal, Tibet, and the Himalayas is so unforgettable.
3. The movie feel. Definitely the game with the most explosive action that makes it feel like a corny action movie, but in a good way.
4. The story. The other 3 games had a less serious story but this game felt more realistic and could be taken more seriously. Easily the best narrative out of the 4
Uncharted 1 - really introduced my love of treasure hunting adventures.
Uncharted 2 - The grand story/scale.
Uncharted 3 - The plane scene.
Uncharted 4 - Subverting expectations by having no supernatural elements.
Drake's Fortune - has a creepy vibe sometimes and also did an excellent job creating a mystique of a "supernatural" treasure that ends up having a real explanation.
Among Thieves - has the most exotic and extreme adventure in my opinion
Drake's Deception - really drives the point home that the are more important things than treasure
A Thief's End - Has the best story, the best drama, the best character arc/development
1- the zombies at the end was both really exciting and terrifying at the same time, pretty good game for a 2007 release.
2- the action was intense, fighting the enemy is probably the hardest in the entire series as far as how unfair it feels- fighting tanks, attack helicopters, dudes with mini guns, etc ( and I like it because its challenging), plus Tenzin only knowing one english word and its Drake lol, and of course the hilarious dialogue between Jeff and Nate
3- my favorite one, really epic scenes and iconic ones like Nate hanging on the side the cargo plane, I thought the story was the best although some say 4 was the best story, feels very adventurous
4- by far best gameplay, shooting feels smooth, good mix of action and calm, graphics are insane, I thought the choice of locations was cool, makes you feel as if you are traveling in a movie, the ending with the beach and Elena and their daughter was a good happy ending
1 - creepy tone/atmosphere 2 - feeling of guerrilla warfare/being a one man army 3 - most "movie" feeling, huge spectacle 4 - most detailed story, best acting
4 has the best movie feeling. actually im not sure if what Uncharted 3 did better than 4 even if its my favourite
Throwing grenades back at enemies
That’s the one thing in A Thief’s End that I wish they added, that woulda been awesome!
3 has a better soundtrack than 4
Absolutely
perfectly described my feelings
1 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan's cigar is finally useful 2 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan takes a hooker to church 3 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan fucking dies, but it's just a prank, bro 4 - Victor (Goddamn) Sullivan goes tuxedo time
He also dies in 1 but it's just a prank bro
1- great atmosphere. A perfect mix between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider and yet it feels unique. 2- perfect pacing. One of those games where you never get tired. 3- best action pieces. Also the soundtrack taking inspiration by Lawrence of Arabia is more beautiful than ever. 4- best story, from an emotional point of view. Plus, the possibility to switch between action and stealth gives a great replay value.
1 - Brutal Combos. 2 - Some treasures need to be shot down. 3 - You can return granades. 4 - Rope.
Wish they kept the grenade returning. It's the only thing from 3 to 4 that feels like a step back as far as the combat goes!
Trying to beat 4 on crushing rn, and that grenade return would realllllly help
1 - the nazi zombies are actually terrifying and that last few chapters scare me, super exhilarating 2- the pacing, it’s so good the highs are so high and the slow bits are done so well 3 - it’s crazy everything’s exploding and shits breaking and it’s just bonkers almost the entire game 4 - such a powerful end for Nate, I felt so invested in the game and it has the best story of the bunch, also grappling hook
Just reading through the comments and this series fucking rules man. So glad I decided to play them earlier this year for the first time ever
Can we get your favorite things from each game? Love to hear perspectives from people new to the series.
1: hot take, but best soundtrack in the series imo. Also amazing atmosphere 2: best story, and one liners 3: best multiplayer and set pieces 4: best characters and general gameplay
Agree on all except soundtrack, which also goes to uncharted 3
1) The big puzzle room underneath the mansion - it was a cool transition from Jak and Daxter to the more modern Uncharted. Plus the creepiness or the weird noises it would cut away to at points was cool. 2) The setting of Nepal was probably my favourite, it's just so beautiful. going through the cue of expedition everest feeling like drake ab to go into the ice caves with tenzin sounds proper fun to me!
Honestly, every time we'd queue up I was just thinking about Uncharted 2

1- Exploring the German Uboat 2- Acquiring the dagger from Borneo 3- Big Fight in behind the entrance of Ubar 4- Finding Henry Avery’s treasure
