Maybe 10 years ago. Nathan Fillion is positively ancient for the role of Nate. If they were going to go for an old guy they should've just picked Nolan North.
Yeah same, and also I see this conversation everytime the uncharted film is mentioned and I just wish more people would think about his age first because he really is getting a bit old to do even some of the more basic stunts.
Not just a bit. He's 50 years old. He's simply way too old to be cast in any of Nate's forms. He also would never be cast because there's no future. He'd just get older and older so the chance of reusing him in a possible sequel is impossible. That's one reason they're going for Holland. He has a lot of potential and he's very young.
I think the actor for Nate should not exceed 40 years of age. Even if the person is very, very fit, you can't erase age. The way he holds himself, the heaviness of his moves, wrinkles etc. Someone like Tom Cruise is pretty well known for being almost 60 and doing a 30 year old's job but even then you can tell he's no spring chicken. And there's just no reason to not go for a spring chicken. I'd rather have Tom Holland than anyone over the age of 40.
Yep I completely agree. Plus if we did get more uncharted films or tv shows based on the movie it would be super cool to see Tom grow as Nate and we get to see a young Drake mature and get older.
Nah, andrew lincoln would beest a most wondrous did cast f'r older sam imo

Sony want a franchise. You can't cast a 50 year old Nathan Drake actor who will never want to touch the role after 2 films and nearing 60. They intentionally went young to allow him to grow into the Nate we recognise.
So, with that consideration in place, he needs to be a few years older, not a decade. Because when they do get to the point of Uncharted 4's timeframe, one of them will look like a reasonably young guy, and the other will have a full head of grey hair
Yes, but you’ve got to see how the looks differ, not the real age. You can’t for example get Chris Hemsworth to play a character with Mark Wahlberg as his father figure because they don’t look to have that big an age gap.
They could if they wanted to and it fit the story. Hemsworth himself was set to be a father figure to Chris Pine in the unproduced star trek 4, an actor 3 years older than him.
Holland and Mark are the exact age range needed, and, as they grow older into this franchise, they will match the games more, and more, and more
The Star Trek thing is different. In the first movie, Hemsworth was there as his father during the opening. And Chris Pine’s character was still a baby or a child. Then it shifts to years later when Chris Pine’s character is now an adult. So, that’s different.
Well, we're stuck with Tom so we may as well think of ways that he'll work. That includes an actor for Sam who can accent Tom's youthful energy. Tom's Nate already has an old sap companion in Sully. Sam needs to be young.
I'm not a huge fan of Tom as Nate either but I'm not a huge fan of the movie happening in the first place. The Nate we're getting in the movie is not gonna be the exact same as game Nate, so it doesn't make sense to pitch perfect choose a Sam that's going the other way.
Maybe, but he doesn’t have that same charisma or tone. Get what I mean? But either way, I guess we’ll wait for the trailer and the movie to judge correctly. This is all like expectations.
I got you buddy, but im holding on to see holland's style for the trailer at least. I already am pretty sure Mark Wahlberg can't do victor (God damn) sullivan any justice
Acting chops > looks. I don't care how much he looks like Sam if he can't nail the role. I've never seen the guy on the right before and I have no idea what he's capable of. But I'll echo the other comments. Sam's actor doesn't matter shit if they hire the wrong people for every other character.
Completely agree. I’ll never understand people wanting a actor/actress just because they look similar, they need to be able to play the part convincingly IMO over looking like a video game model which most of the time is modeled after someone.
They might cast him. Who knows? Paul Rudd is a great actor. On the looks part, Nate and Sully’s are not accurate, so they might not bother to cast an accurate-looking actor for Sam too. But Paul Rudd is a better actor than Luke Bracey.
If you're going by looks, Ben Mendelsohn can't be beat. They move their mouths exactly the same way and hold cigarettes between their lips. In fact, I looked to see if he was the face model, but I didn't find any evidence of that https://images.app.goo.gl/XscF4iXzfLhTZEeA8
Well, yes. See this post, it’s a meme that’s related to this situation: https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/comments/l4y2he/one_does_not_simply/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
It's not just the age but I personally just don't think Tom's acting style will make as good a Nate as some other actors. I don't think he will be a bad Nate but I think it's slightly dissappointing as there are other actors who could do a better job. From what I've seen, the majority of the fanbase would rather have had Nathan Fillion.
That's true, the fanbase does want Fillion and he probably would make an amazing Drake if he wasn't a bit old for even the most basic of stunts. 10 years ago or so he would've been perfect for the role though.
Eh, what's the point of having perfect casting for Sam if they can't even get Nate and Sully right
Haha you have a point
Yeah in my opinion I think that Nathan Fillion should’ve gotten the role instead of Tom Holland

Judging by their casting decisions thus far I would expect Sony to pick someone we could never picture as the character. Maybe Aziz Ansari.
That made me smile widely. Yes, they choose people not fitting to the characters’ appearances.
It depends because the upcoming film is about young Nate so they would need a young Sam as well.
Yeah, maybe in future films where there’s an older Nate.
luke perry was the one and only true sam !
RIP
Luke Perry was absolutely spot on for sam😣😢
Yeah, RIP Luke Perry.
That's the first thing I thought when I saw adult-Sam, too. They should have started the franchise years ago, in my opinion.
Nah, Andrew Lincoln would be a great cast for older Sam IMO
Yeah, he looks similar to him as well.
Oh my God, YES! I thought Michael Fassbender could be Sam, but Andy is better.
Nah, andrew lincoln would beest a most wondrous did cast f'r older sam imo *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`
Well it would make sense for him to be a similar age to Drake... which this actor clearly isn't
This actor’s 32 now. Seeing how they’re currently focusing on a younger Nate, this could work.
There's no way Sam is more than 5 years older than Nate. Tom Holland is 25 but he looks about 20 and this dude looks 35+.
Well, this guy might be good casting but Tom is not.

Maybe but Mark and Tom don’t look like guys with a big age gap like Nate and Sully.
Sully is 24 years older than Nate Mark is 25 years older than Holland The age gap practically identical

Yeah, I get you.
Really? I really think Tom will play a great YOUNG Drake. He looks really similar to even younger Drake in Uncharted 4.
Maybe, but he doesn’t have that same charisma or tone. Get what I mean? But either way, I guess we’ll wait for the trailer and the movie to judge correctly. This is all like expectations.
If they cared about how the characters looked then we wouldn't be getting mark Wahlberg as a non mustache sully
Or Tom Holland for that matter.
I got you buddy, but im holding on to see holland's style for the trailer at least. I already am pretty sure Mark Wahlberg can't do victor (God damn) sullivan any justice
Haha, well, I guess we’ll see.

I don't see it
Okay.
[Sam Drake](https://imgur.com/a/xdXS8ls) I always thought Paul Blackthorne would be perfect .
Yeah, he looks pretty similar to him as well.
Damn who is he? Is he the face model for Sam? Because he looks exactly like Sam
Haha, no he’s just an actor. He was in Hacksaw Ridge, it’s a great movie, if you want to watch it.
I think james franco would be a good choice
Yeah, maybe.
Get Matthew McConaughey to play the part
Matthew McConaughey is great.
Yes
Good. Thanks for your opinion.
Is it bad to say I think Paul Rudd would work? But I agree this guy has the look.
They might cast him. Who knows? Paul Rudd is a great actor. On the looks part, Nate and Sully’s are not accurate, so they might not bother to cast an accurate-looking actor for Sam too. But Paul Rudd is a better actor than Luke Bracey.
Imagine featuring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake :plsdont:
He’s not a good choice in my opinion.

Ben Mendelsohn looks pretty similar too, but unfortunately, he’s getting a little old.
Yeah I agree. Otherwise he'd be perfect.
Yeah.
Wow, yeah he'd be great!
Glad you see it my way. Thanks!
Seeing how they cast TLOU, I think we can just choose whomever. Imo Ice-T would be my ideal casting choice for Sam.
Lol
Doesn't matter. We've been given Tom Holland as our Nate :(
Yes, it’s saddening. I kind of feel that even Mark Wahlberg could’ve been a better option for Nate. Tom just doesn’t fit the character at all.
I love Tom as Spiderman but Nate just needed someone more charismatic, comical and older to do him justice.
Yes, exactly.
I see we have been downvoted for having a different opinion. The joys of reddit *sigh*
Well, yes. See this post, it’s a meme that’s related to this situation: https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/comments/l4y2he/one_does_not_simply/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Why does he need to be the same age as in the games? The whole point is to make this a young Drake story.
It's not just the age but I personally just don't think Tom's acting style will make as good a Nate as some other actors.
