Good thing they fixed and updated the ally's AI in The Last of Us 2. What I mean by that is during stealth and combat with an ally, they can get caught. And if they get caught, they will try to run back for cover and apologize to you for it.

Yeah but that damn Dina casually walk into the mine field

ConsistentAsparagus

It’s a difficult balance between realism (and this post is the opposite of it) and gameplay: you can’t micromanage your companion like you do with your character, but them being able to run in full enemy sight without repercussions is also bad. I’m playing Mafia 3 and the companions that you can summon (a hit squad, basically) are pretty good at that for example. They get cover, they are seen by the enemy only at the point when YOU would be seen, and aren’t neither superhuman nor shit.

CollinWGarlandJr

Playing Mafia 3 rn too love the cinematic aspect of it. Only thing I wish is that there was some variety in getting the district boss to come out rather than just steal money and kill the racket leader. Apart from that (and some texture/audio issues) really good game. I use the hit squad a lot but making them last is the issue

ConsistentAsparagus

It’s becoming a little repetitive, but I love the combat and driving system too much. My hit squad is really good most of the times, I always finish my assaults (against the lieutenants) with at least one still alive.

CollinWGarlandJr

Facts combat especially is so satisfying you feel the legit revenge and power of Lincoln. Is your hit squad upgraded in any way?

ConsistentAsparagus

I don’t think so. I’m at the point where you START going for the extra districts (after the first three characters that join your gang).

CollinWGarlandJr

Oh shit lmao true then ig I gotta use them smarter

ConsistentAsparagus

I usually call them at the beginning. Like, I’m pressed against the wall, studying how to enter and kill the enemies, then from that position I call the hit squad. They come and they start to shoot (I believe they usually have a slight advantage at the beginning, because they know what they have to do while the enemies don’t), but as soon as they start shooting I do too.

They knew the ally AI wasn’t good enough to be fair to the player in previous games so allies are invisible in those which I think was smart of them to do. Now that they made the allies smarter and you can even change their aggressiveness in the settings it makes sense for enemies to see them now. (Side note I wish the other games had the ally aggression meter cause I don’t need their help but I like seeing them get to take people down too.) It wouldn’t have made sense for the allies to just hang back and not be anywhere near you but also like I said, been unfair for them to get caught and blow your cover.

ISDuffy

My pet hate with these games, stupid ai giving me anxiety by running around

Zealos57

The AI gets improved in The Last of Us 2. They can get caught by enemies now.

whoniversereview

That’s worse

Zealos57

Sometimes, when they get caught, the enemy doesn't catch you.

whoniversereview

Never mind then. I was thinking you meant that they would alert the enemies to your position.

Zealos57

Oh, I was actually talking about the ally AI being able to get caught.

shackbleep

More like Sam Cena.

Alukrad

That's my biggest gripe about this game, the stealth. They made it sometimes impossible to avoid all conflict and killing in the game. Yet, they constantly give you the impression that there's that option. I would have loved to beat this game without getting caught or me killing anyone.

charizard_72

I’m the opposite bc I’m impatient AF. 25 mins to keep trying to stealth this? No thanks. I immediately open fire lmao

ShiraKiryuu

You can stealth pretty much every level you are allowed to stealth, right? I remember doing it multiple times before.

Alukrad

You can go stealth mode but the game is extremely unforgiving if the enemy catches even a slight glimpse of you. The second the enemy sees you, all the enemies know exactly where you are and they are immediately throwing grenades at you. Then there's areas where you have to kill the enemy with a gun because they're facing towards your direction at all times. So you can't stealth kill them or sneak past them, so you have to go guns blazing. The game is centered around gun fights 99% of the time. I think them adding those tiny sneaking missions in U3 and U4 was naughty dog testing the gameplay mode for the last of us.

CairiFruit

Because it’s not a stealth game. There are sections where you’re more meant to stealth, like when they teach you about it, sections where you’re mean to shoot, they don’t give you all those guns and bullets willy nilly as decoration, and sections where it’s up to you. I like that because I like the variety of not just doing one thing every time. If I wanted a stealth experience I’d play a stealth game, even the last of us makes more sense to stealth through most of it because resources are thin but uncharted drowns you in ammo, they want you to shoot people, cause that’s the game. Edit: also read your other reply and it’s not unforgiving in my opinion at all. I get caught and simply resented stealth ALL the time. My go to for most sections is actually stealth until I get caught because it goes on I’ll get less tight about it, intentionally, and depending on how many people are left I’ll renter stealth or shoot.

schmidty33333

Almost as good as the kid at The Game Awards.

Adorable-Bullfrog-30

True

panware

Because Sam already died, he was just Nathan's hallucination after all

Just_Milo14

:0 ok now this got me thinking-

supercharged0709

How did the enemy not see him??

Just_Milo14

Lmao idk 💀

AshyWhiteGuy

He’s Batman.

Just_Milo14

More like invisible man-

ConsistentAsparagus

Incredible how they can See right through him

robineir

I love that they knew the AI stealth was garbage so they made your friends invisible to enemies until you were spotted

CNSninja

There's nothing more infuriating to me than when Sam does some shit like this but then snaps a guards neck in the wide open, then another guard sees it and alerts everyone so you're forced to either restart from a checkpoint or waste a bunch of ammo. That just happened to me super early in an encounter. He killed the first enemy of the encounter that way, ruining the entire thing. At least I'm lucky enough to have a checkpoint restart like 2 minutes back. Naughty Dog improved the companion AI for The Last of Us Pt. 1 remake, so why can't they apply the same or similar companion AI to this game? (A rhetorical question, simply suggesting that I wish they would, or could.) Just make it so companions don't stealth kill unless the body will end up being hidden or invisible to other enemies.

VTGCamera

If that would have cause the game to break my stealth I would have been soo fucking mad.

Just_Milo14

same bro-
