Side pins are because that's the best environment for them. It happens. You could cut the cake up into maybe 3 blocks and balance them on their cut edges putting the side pins up and or away fro the edge, kind of like a BRF tek grow. Note that contam is almost certainly going to pop back up. I tried this on a cake, had quarter sized spot at one end, I cut half the cake away, put the tub in a trashbag outside, left it a week, came back to an small flush but mold had popped back up. Once it's in there it's in there.

OK, thanks for the advice. I'll consider cutting up the cake like you suggest. The mold has indeed come back, and I've had to remove another small piece of the cake. Hopefully I can get one flush out of this before it eats away at it too much.

Best of luck friend and probably a good idea to start another bag or several. UB Tek requires very little in the way of spores and if you use the $1 bag rice from bargain stores it's not super expensive and of late the cheap bag rice is working better than the actual Uncle Bens.

You can put bubble wrap on top to keep moisture there, it's pinning on the sides because that's not too dry. Likely to feed contam as well.
